Saw that; that was crazy.

I hope I'm wrong but I see lack of talent as the issue. We're not very good. We're putting guys out there who can't play at this level. Weak at offense, defense, or both. A handful of decent guys but that's it. Supposedly a talent infusion is on its way, as the 2019 and 2020 classes are much better than previous classes. Although if they are too good and go pro we're screwed anyway, especially with Big 10 rules. 11 strikeouts today vs. Northern Colorado. Had some really bad at bats; guys were just completely over-matched. Very poor defensively, average pitching, no power, lots of strikeouts. I think its gonna be a long year. To me it didn't look like a good team playing bad. It just looked like a bad team.

I'll leave a friggin' message....

And good luck to you in the NIT, Catfan. If you win it you can have sole possession of 65th place!

USC got hosed. This whole stystem blows. Devalues conferences

Hopefully South Dakota will get in

A good Saturday. Poly had no pitching, but still a convincing doubleheader win. Baseball can can be a funny game. We win 22-3, and only outhit Poly 16-12.

But not as good as the Shim Shams. ?

Pretty sure IN.

The next year I was at the Class A title game cheering for Columbus. East's luck ran out.

Should college players get paid and if so how much?

Down-arrowing someone for a different opinion suggests it may in fact be personal -
Lost 5 arms due to injury. We're gonna be throwing guys out there who aren't ready to pitch at this level. That doesn't excuse the defense today, but the lack of pitching is gonna make for a long year.

Invite Andy Markowski. Guy is a great Danny Née story teller.

it doesn't suck nearly as bad. There has been progress you are not acknowledging. It takes time. But the talent recruited by Miles is considerably better than what was being done previously. Roby is a prime example. Stud high school recruit; very special talent.

Thanks, and great stuff. Brings back a flood of memories of Danny stuff, and has some new. Very rewarding, but keeping me from getting to my work for an hour each morning!

I would love to go through the recruiting busts of Miles' predecessors with you. I get that expectations with a practice facility and new arena are higher, but it isn't like there was some history of successful recruiting of high school players in recent history. In fact, the opposite. Those are damn hard to get, and we've struggled forever. A shiny new place isn't just going to instantly change 100 years of futility. In order to try to get players that give us a chance to compete, we have to start somewhere. Miles' somewhere was Petteway, Pitchford, Copeland, Palmer. Transfers with risk. Danny filled rosters out with guys like Garner and Chandler (high level guys) . Barry and Doc filled out rosters with guys like Brennon Clemons , Justin Boeker and Kedrick Ford. Doc got Alex Chapman. The high school recruits were a rogues gallery of awful players. We're not where we need to be, but you are way over critical of Miles' recruiting.

I respect your view that Miles isn't the right guy and should be fired. But I completely disagree with your statement that "the 3 year stretch was the worst in 60-70 years. " That's a simplistic, cherry-picking view, and isn't close to reality. You can pull out win-loss records all you want, but you can't just compare win-loss records. The Big 10 in those years was better top to bottom than any league we had played in, and the non-conference scheduling was much tougher. I've been going to games for over 50 years, and the 3 years of which you speak weren't even close to the worst teams we had in 60-70 years. Just an over the top, crazy statement.
-
"Worst 3 years" kind of conveniently ignores that we finished dead last in the conference in 2 out of Doc's last 3 years. I guess one could think we've been worse under Miles than the 2 guys before him but that would be a strange opinion.
-
With all due respect, he needed to ask the question. If you're going to make the incident a big part of your story, you need to go to the top guy with it.

Part 3 was a good read. One question I would have loved to have had Dirk address with Danny: "What set you off in Kansas City at breakfast? What was behind the '2 steak tirade'?". Perhaps he did and Danny wouldn't answer it, but in that event i would have liked the article to state " Nee declined to comment". Because it was a huge part of the history of the year as well as Part 3 of the article.

Part II actually quotes the HHC interview of Jose Ramos from '06. Nice credit to HHC (and I presume HHC Dave did the interview).

I got my NIT tickets. If that's where we end up I'll be caring about it and attending. I hope the players rally and play hard. The NIT is a lot like the minor bowl games. It is obvious some teams are disappointed and don't give maximum effort. I think if we get a home game we'll be OK. I'm not judging the season by yesterday. 22 wins and 4th in the Big 10 is satisfying. We played some exciting basketball. Easy team to support as they seem like a bunch of good guys. Bench mob came up with some original Schtick. Enjoyed this season a lot.

Great win. Missed Kissinger but hung tough. Cincore's D was superb.
