More control of his emotional exuberance will help him quite a bit. Terran was the king of the frustration foul. He cuts that down, he's no longer a fouling machine. High volume shooters are notorious for turnovers due to the pressures of having to create. I can live with elevated turnovers from a scorer as long as the possessions are reasonably efficient. We're not used to having guys like this in the program, but we probably should get used to it. In the end, the team as a whole kept turnovers low, and that matters the most. He had a phenomenal year, and we finished where we did because of that guy. With a stronger supporting cast, we probably won't have to live and die by the Terranosaurus next season.

Why do you think these programs are less than ethical? Calipari has been caught cheating everywhere he's been, and UConn was banned from any postseason do to poor grades. UConn's postseason ban was a bit of BS. UConn met the old APR standards. New standards were implemented and retroactively applied. The players who were "punished" during the lost season had literally no impact on the APR calculation leading to the ban. Those players actually had near perfect APR scores. Unless you've got some other dirt, calling UConn's program unethical is hardly accurate. Sorry, but U Conn was found to have committed 8 recruiting violations back in 2009. That's why there's no Calhoun. How long they've done that under the old regime is certainly up for debate. But to suggest that the infraction was due to an APR snafu is probably incorrect. As far as I know, however, this cohort of UConn players is clean, so there's that. Calipari's history is pretty sordid and well known. Last two programs he skippered got probation after he conveniently left right before the cops hit. On the flip side, it wasn't sordid enough apparently to get slapped with a suspension and a show-cause.

heh heh. I think this has been a done deal for awhile just waiting for the tourney to end to make the announcement. I would guess tomorrow or Wednesday we'll get the scoop.

this is an awful final. i'd rather watch the season finale of "My Balls Itch" than the Probation Bowl.

I'd take Molinari and say "thanks" to the hoops gods. Jacks up the coaching experience on the staff immensely. Knows the B1G territory really well and is well known by other coaches. If this pans out, it's a good grab by Miles. Best rumor of the week by far.

hmmm....a little tabasco on top of a fresh left ankle, my trusty KA-BAR, and some diet coke, and this ol' cannibal's taken care of just nicely.
-
Yeah, he's pretty good. Goes by the name, "Caesar", I think.

How will the new unions affect basketball?
tcp replied to BenJammin63's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Maybe I didn't make this clear.... And maybe that was sarcasm too... But since northwestern and I believe any other teams can now start unions and have more say in what happens with them, that means any NCAA team in any sport can form one. I'm not trying to get political or anything like that. I'm seriously wondering how this will affect NCAA sports and basketball in general. I'm sorry if I didn't word it right and made it sound political, but I would definitely say this affects Nebraska basketball and basketball in general. The irony is that sports oozes politics, and the number of "topics" that can be turned into political circle jerks is boundless. So the notion that you can discuss sports all the time without venturing into politics is, to me, ludicrous. But it remains the ethos of the board world that "political neutrality" be maintained. In order for that illusion to be maintained, topics like these need to be shut down or quarantined immediately unless you want to conduct a social experiment on how strong fan identity is versus political identity. For those of us who hold views very much in the minority, these kinds of threads are hostile, because we either not engage in order to allow peace to be maintained or we engage and rip the board to pieces, not to mention the relationships on it. -

Dimes, brother, this needs to stop. I realize some folks can't help themselves, but this needs to stay a basketball board and not an adjunct of a political site. Thanks. -
HHCC Final Standings - Congrats Buglem
tcp replied to UsAlways_AJS's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Congrats to Buglem and I see I finished around where I usually do. Always the bridesmaid.... Thanks again for doing this, ASC. And thanks to the players who stuck it out all the way through. Hopefully next season we won't have a 50% attrition rate. -
A simple way to live one's life: do the best you can at all times and let the chips fall where they may. It sucked losing that game, and sucked even more the way we lost it. But it was a fabulous season. Miles isn't going anywhere just because he wins a game. And you know what? If he does? We'll find another. We have a template now of what it takes to be more successful.

Nebraska Cornhuskers (26-6) vs. BYU Cougars (27-6) Game Thread

wow, the hoops gods were not with them tonight. too bad. would've been nice to get back to sweet 16 at home. -
USD fired Joey James, a former Bellevue West standout. He was their interim coach. Small world. Joey James...had not heard that name in years. I coached the reserve squad at Bellevue west when Joey was a senior... Interesting. I'm a BW grad myself. wow, there's a lot of us around here. Inaugural full class of '80, here. I'm the guy who picked your school song....

Is that possible? I can't believe I'm still mad about that game. I'll be mad until November.
-
incompetence in the San Antonio bracket? No way!

happy as heck for coach smith. sad for us. we lose a big cog in the system. if you see this coach smith, good luck. you'll be missed.

naked pictures of posters in a collage? that's a brilliant idea, dimes. glad you thought of it. they'll love it! "From All of Us--And We Do Mean "All" (wink nudge)--To All of You. Thanks for a Great Season! Your Maladjusted Pals at HHC!"

ALL Baylor fans? You're usually the guy who discourages painting entire fan bases with a broad brush. Now, Baylor fans are pricks and Creighton fans cheer for Nebraska. Personally, I've never run across a Baylor fan. Ever, really. But I've run across some Creighton fans who could very rightly be called pricks. Does that mean I should cheer for Baylor? Really, you can cheer for the maintenance crew for all I care. CU on Sunday for me. Feel free to report me to Eichorst for disciplinary action.
-
All I know is that there were Jay fans there wearing red for our game and cheering for us. Baylor fans were complete pricks about this game, refusing to acknowledge how slanted the officiating was and how fortunate they were to be on the receiving end of that kind of gratuity. They cheered for us today, I'm returning the favor Sunday.
-
I hope the Jays destroy Baylor.
-
Even with decent officiating it would've been a rough game, no doubt. But you can't ask these kids to have to rise above a whistle every possession, many of which were bodying up calls that are perfectly fine in every other game. Tough two losses to end the year, but hopefully that motivates these guys to become better players in the offseason. I can't imagine they'd want to feel that way again.

Nebraska 19-12 Vs. Baylor 24-11 Game Thread
tcp replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
baylor shot just as bad if not worse. the sole difference in the game was the whistles. based on the statistics - not really you mean the statistics that had them shooting as bad or worse than we are? those statistics? the ones that were already posted a bit earlier? or maybe another set of statistics that I might have overlooked.
