  1. Interestingly, he tweeted on June 22 that he would be cutting his list of schools and setting up visits after the Peach Jam in mid-July. Well, we didn't even offer until after his projected cut date. So ... The news of this offer is very curious.
  2. The kid tweeted out an appropriate response to the offer ...
  3. Wow. Nothing like offering a top 50 player 3 1/2 months before NLI signing day. The KUs of the world can swoop in at the end of the recruiting cycle and walk away with some upper level recruits, but typically the Nebraskas of the world cannot. We generally have to build a relationship over a long period and then hold on when the big boys figure out we've got a player. There must be more to this particular story that we've extended this offer and didn't offer, for instance, the #4 player in the nation who's also a SF and uncommitted. He's slender like Roby, but that's about where the comparisons stop. From the very brief video I saw of him (very small sample size) my impression is that this is a very skilled player who's probably a better shooter than Roby but doesn't have Roby's explosive leaping ability. If he had Roby's ups, he'd be top 20 instead of top 35. The thing that's putting Roby into the first round draft pick discussion is that his skills are catching up to his elite athleticism. This kid appears to have those two parts of the equation reversed. He's more skilled than he is athletic. Which isn't to say he doesn't have athleticism or can't build on what he does have; it's just that his skills are at a higher level. Hopefully, this is more than just throwing an offer out there and hoping. Hopefully, there's some reason to believe he might actually have some interest.
  4. Yeah, the old "break up by text message" ploy. That one always makes you look good.
  5. I think Dean is probably on to something here.
  6. Oh yeah. Me too. Shocked when I saw he wasn't a Rivals 4-star. This kid has some legit skills. Reminds me a bit of Isaiah Roby. Perhaps not the explosive leaping ability but then maybe a bit better shooter. Similar body, similar game. I like this offer a lot.
  7. Bitter reflections isn't a good look for anyone.
  8. Mississippi Valley State finished #348 in Kenpom's rankings last year. Hopefully they'll be a lot better this year. Don't want this to be another situation where the mere fact we played them drags down our rpi.
  9. It astonishes me that Jordy has chosen to not be a part of what is shaping up to be an historic season for Nebraska basketball. In 2029, they’re going to be walked out into center court at PBA to celebrate whatever huge things they accomplish this coming season and someone’s jersey will be retired and these guys will get an extended standing ovation and someone is going to ask the name of that one center who quit the team just before the season. And whoever they’re sitting with will say “give me a minute, it’ll come to me. But, damn, Roby was such a great kid, not just a great player.” And the other guy will say “That whole team was full of good players who were also good kids.” And they’ll continue cheering and applauding the 2019 team and that’ll be the last time anyone will mention the kid who quit.
  10. He could go there and play wing. #letitfly
  11. Jordy should be no higher than 25th. You must have been rating on potential.
  12. If D'jery was a grad transfer, I'd say get him right away. Maybe get him anyway. But we need someone for depth this year. Does Duby have a younger brother? Edited to add: Just checked the grad transfer tracker and D'Jery will graduate from Vandy in December and would be available basically for 1 1/2 seasons. He'd come in as a junior wherever he lands. It'd be nice if he could transfer now, attend classes in Nebraska and apply them toward his degree at Vandy, and then have less rust to shake off on December 15, when UNL holds commencement exercises for fall semester. Probably won't happen, though.
  13. OK, I'm sorry, not trying to beat you up here, but I've watched the video again and you just cannot justify this take based on the videos that were posted. I see a guy with good form on his jumper and a quick catch and release. And his 40% shooting numbers from juco back up that he's accurate and that it's not just an artifact of selective video editing. I see a guy who takes his defender off the dribble going either to his left or right and finishing at the rim. That's not raw. The only thing potentially raw-looking was on a couple of fast break opportunities where he got a steal and got way out in front, he took a couple of small, stutter steps to time his jump for what resulted in amazing dunks. Otherwise, I don't see anything remotely raw about this kid and I don't think it's even arguable.
  14. I guess I'm mystified because I don't know what you're seeing that leads you to say he looks raw. There was nothing in those videos that showed raw. His juco stats sure don't say raw, not when he's dishing out assists at double the rate of his turnovers and hitting 40% of his treys. He might be raw. But there's nothing in any of those highlight videos that shows it. Kyle Marks? Yeah, raw. Even his highlight videos showed raw. Matthew Atewe? He was clearly raw. Even in his highlights. This kid? I don't see anything that looks raw. Again, could be raw, it's possible, highlight vids can be deceiving, but I don't see anything that would lead to that conclusion. Besides, anyone who's 6'4", hits 40% of his three-pointers, has a 45 inch vertical leap, and can play defense would find a spot on a B1G roster.
  15. I don’t have anything to add that hasn’t already been said. Hindsight is 20/20 but we’d obviously have been better off if they’d bid adieu back in January. Sois parti pour toujours, mon frere.
  16. adidas didn't make any shoes that would work for his feet. ?
  17. According to the juco stats, this kid was 4th on his team in scoring (top freshman), 2nd in steals, 3rd in assists, 3rd in 3-point accuracy, and #1 in assist:turnover ratio. Freshman. Best on the team in assist:turnover ratio. That's unusual for a freshman who plays starter minutes and handles the ball enough to be 3rd on the team in assists.
  18. I think he was gone before that. I'm thinking about the time we added Copeland in January. He was a totally different player when he came back from "injury."
  19. Little refined skill compared to whom? Nana? Who reportedly can shoot the ball (personally haven't seen evidence of this) but isn't so good at dribbling? To me, looks like this kid has some handles, and he can certainly shoot. His juco stats indicate he hit 40% of his treys. The videos show he has Norm-approved form. He gets good elevation and he has a compact stroke with a quick release. He's good at the catch-and-shoot. Can take aim quickly and get the ball away. This is an area of need. You have a guy who can get to the rim and finish and he can also hit from the perimeter. And he can jump out of the gym. What's not to like?
  20. We lose SOOO much off this year's squad that we'll need an instant infusion of experienced players when fall 2019 roles around. We only landed one 4-year redshirt transfer. Would have been nice to land a big man in that group. But we lose James, we lose Glynn, we lose Isaac, and possibly we lose Isaiah. These two jucos, this kid and Khalid Thomas, would both be good additions to keep the train rolling so that we don't backslide too far after what many around here expect will be a really good season this coming year. We wouldn't be investing in a long-term fix with a couple of two-year guys, and Miles has proven that transfers, both juco and 4-year, can thrive here. That gives us something positive to say in recruiting. I mean, this is basically what we need right now. Like HB said, peach schnapps of necessity. We have no way of knowing how good Nana or Thor might end up being. Maybe this kid is being recruited for their spot and their job is to show they're good enough to not let him take it. But, based on what I saw of Quenton's video, there's nothing they'll be able to do about the athleticism part, and they don't have much advantage on the skill side if they have an advantage there at all. And I'm not sure they do.
  21. He's about ready to say "Again." I just know it.
  22. There's a couple of things about both that leave us with a little bad taste in our mouths. I think the bottom line for both was that they saw the writing on the wall. Roby was going to pass them both and Copeland was a 5-star recruit out of HS who could actually hit treys. So, I'm thinking they looked at each other and at the roster and decided that playing time grass was greener somewhere else. I have reason to believe that Morrow was planning to transfer while he was sitting out "injured" two-thirds of the way through his sophomore season. He did not contribute to team cohesion in the locker room and had basically cashed in his chips before the season was over. Jacobson, I'd feel better about, but I think he kind of pulled an Andrew White and wasn't up front with the coaches about his decision to leave. That's on him. He could have handled it differently. In a way that wouldn't have left a bad taste.
  23. He would rather come off the bench for a Marquette team he thinks will dance than come off the bench for a Husker team he didn't think would get there.
  24. Absolutely. Our tickets, our donations, our time, our efforts in turning out game after game, even when things weren’t so good. I’ve probably attended more practices over the years than a player would in a season. And what I missed in film sessions, I made up for in posting videos of various games, practices, drills, recruits, etc. I hope they win GAMES in the tourney this season, but I’m hoping so as much for me as for anyone else. (I’ll be happy for Glynn’s sake too.)
