  1. There's only so far one guy can carry you (cough cough Terran Petteway cough cough)
  2. Nine Big Ten teams in the top 31 of the latest NET rankings. The next 2 Big Ten teams after that are PSU at #67 and Northwestern at #69. That's a big jump. When you have 9 in the first 31 teams and then nothing until #67 ...
  3. Yeah, when we dropped out in 2015, we didn't get back in. Here, we got back in.
  4. Warren Swain doing basketball should have been called Snorin' Wayne. Ugh. The Nebraska Sports Nightly show started out as "Mid-America Sports Nightly" on KLIN in Lincoln. The original guys, I believe, were Pat Combs, John Baylor, Gary Sharp, and Jim Rose. Talk about a stable of talent at a single small-market radio station. By the by, Combs and Baylor went to their own local news/issues show, "To the Point with Combs and Baylor." Rose left for greener pastures in Kansas City or something. And Sharp took over Sports Nightly. And it was a great show. They talked about Huskers and major league baseball and the NFL and any other sport issue you wanted to hear about. And then Pinnacle or whoever came along and wanted to turn it into a Huskers-only program. And they decided to shit-can Gary Sharp. And they turned Sports Nightly into a nightly snooze fest. I was sooooo pissed. Sports Nightly was such a great show and Gary Sharp was such a great host. And they replaced him with Snorin' Wayne or whoever, and a young, inexperienced Matt Davison for a time. And just rotated whatever clown they could find to come in and do the program. Because none of them were very good at it. And it sucked out loud. Gary Sharp did a great job of coming up with content to get people calling in and talking when he did the show. His replacements were unimaginative dullards. How many shows can you get away with interviewing the broadcast play-by-play guy for one of our conference rivals? I don't care what that guy thinks or what his life story is. So I just stopped listening. And I've never gone back. I only tune in for games, and that's basically it.
  5. I have no problem at all w/ people who want to see this season play out. But there are too many people who made up their minds 3 years ago and belittle posters who think there are some reasons for holding off on the tar-and-feather brigade. Saying you want to see the season play out is different than saying you want to run Miles out of town on a rail yesterday and that anyone who thinks differently -- including those still waiting and seeing -- just harbor a "losers mentality."
  6. I fully support differing opinions. What I don't support is being constantly trolled by clueless a-holes who go around saying things like "What's your excuse going to be THIS year? Huh? What's it going to be this time, all you Miles apologists?" Those people don't support differing opinions. Those people just want to beat into submission anyone who isn't ready to lower the axe on Miles' coaching tenure. I'm looking forward to giving those people one giant "up yours" at the end of this season. I've been taking names. Just sayin.
  7. I don't hate Jayskers. Their school doesn't have a football team. The state does have one, though, but only one at the D1 level. Makes sense for people to be fans of the local football team even if they don't go to that school. People from Peru State probably cheer for the Huskers and I haven't heard anyone call them Bobskers. I think Jayskers tend to be less acerbic and abrasive than other CU fans who choose to hate on ALL Nebraska sports including football just because they have a hard-on for something Barry Collier said nearly 20 years ago, which they now kind of agree with. Obviously, there's some crossover. You get the occasional Jaysker who is just an unqualified dick, but that probably has more to do with personal failing on their end than it is an indictment of Jayskers generally. So, I don't really care if Creighton hoops fans also cheer on Nebraska football. It gives us something kind of fun to mock them about and I'm OK with that.
  8. I would take 24-6. I'd take it right now; wouldn't even ask to play the games.
  9. Merge with the other thread?
  10. I said before the season that the pre-season rankings that had us in the top 25 were a little premature and we needed to play some games and earn it before I would say we deserved to be there. Well, we deserve to be there. This is not 2014-15. This team is picking up where it left off last season. Nice thing about that is we were able to avoid a stub-our-toe game by beating Clemson rather than getting blown out at St. John's a year ago. In other words, it hasn't take as long to hit stride this season and that's yielding dividends that will help us out on Selection Sunday.
  11. Here's another thing: The level of douchebaggery over there when it comes to dissing Husker hoops is monumental. If things pan out for Husker hoops the way I anticipate based on how things are going, I'm going to have some choice words for some of those folks who chose to be dicks about this program over the last few years. I might drop an f-bomb or two. I apologize in advance.
  12. Brady has 24 points and 28 rebounds in 77 minutes this season. That's 12 1/2 points/40 min and 14 1/2 bds/40 min. He's shooting a stellar 64.7% from the floor, but a paltry 22% from the stripe (small sample sizes for all of those.) His best stat is probably 1 block every 10 minutes. He's putting up more than a block/game while averaging only 11 minutes per contest. Overall, those are some pretty encouraging numbers.
  13. You're welcome. I generally go over there for updates on football stuff. But then, when I see a hoops thread, it's hard for me to not look at it. It's generally an eye-roll affair, though. Feel bad for a couple of the more reasonable guys over there who've been dismissed as nothing more than "Miles apologists."
  14. That's a good way of describing Heiman's shot. Looks like a trebuchet. Thing I really like about him as a true freshman is that, when he comes in, he might not do a lot, but he doesn't do a lot wrong, either. He doesn't hurt us when he's in (except not having the bulk to keep from being shoved around in the paint), but then he'll makes some little plays here and there that help the cause. Miles talked about this in general on his pre-game. (Or was it the post-game?) You don't have to be a star. You just have to be a star in your role. When you get called on, make a play in the role you've been called on to make. I would say Brady is starring in his role as a true-freshman backup center. He has quick hands and he seems to come up with more than his share of loose balls that are bouncing around in the lane. So, we get that out of him. But he has far more hoops IQ than Jordy regrettably ever displayed. He has softer hands; he has a much better sense of where to be; and when he gets the ball in a position to score, he generally delivers. Whenever he's gotten in the game, he's made plays when there's been a play there for him to make. I agree: I like him a lot so far.
  15. Karrington Davis ruptured his Achilles during pre-season workouts. He's out for the year. Hopefully, the kid returns to full health, because I think he was a pretty decent player.
  16. Congrats, @Kent Pavelka . It's an honor having you join us from time to time to share our mutual passion for Nebraska basketball. I was around for that 10-year banishment you spoke about. I was pissed about it. Rather than caring about what fans wanted, the "Powers that be" decided what we needed was some passive, neutral, non-homer to be broadcasting our games. I say bullshit. I want a fan of the team I cheer for calling the games. I want a broadcaster who gets excited when one of our guys hits a dagger three and yells out "BANGARANG!!!" I'm sure Randy whatever-his-name-was was a nice guy, but he was never Kent Pavelka. Very glad Marc Boehm placed that phone call all those years ago.
  17. Clemson on the road, and we just got done with a 15-point win at home against a conference foe where the outcome was never really in doubt (Illinois closed to 9 twice in the second half, but never got closer than that.) And STILL, people over on that other board are throwing shade on this team, this coach, and this program. A sample (complete with grammatical/spelling errors): "We’ll see how behind him you’re after the Cryhton game next Saturday... " "Unless Tim Miles takes us to the round of 32 this season I will consider it a failure and would like to move on from him. I'm no expert on basketball offensive sets but I know a couple guys who are and they agree with what others here have said, that it's a middle school offense. In 7 years Tim has not been able to recruit or develop a big and has survived on the backs of two gamers in Terran and JPJ getting hot. That's not a sustainable strategy. I hope I'm wrong but I've been hurt by this program too many times to not be cautious." "Apparently, a 47-62 conference record is good enough to fool a few people around here." "I don't love Tim miles as a coach. He has a great starting 5 this year and that's what will (hopefully) get us a tourney win or 2 this year. Unfortunately, I think we lose most of our talent after this year and return to a below average team. I hope I'm wrong." "Miles really doesn't have a clue about recruiting or developing a post player and seems to have a sense of disdain for big men. So he's better off recruiting perimeter bigs and forcing them to fend for themselves (minus decent technique) on the inside."
  18. Not a perfect performance by the Huskers but 16 point halftime lead is what a top 25 type team will do to a lesser conference foe.
  19. Ugh. Turquoise? Really? I'd say those jerseys are more offensive than Chief Illiniwek.
  20. It looks like you needed to be in on the Matthew Atewe recruitment to really jump up into the realm of the college basketball big boys.
  21. Will History sort of repeat? Looks like we're due for another #21 or #22 to come through with a title.
  22. Good point.
  23. Went back and re-watched this game last night. Some thoughts: Clemson is good. Didn't play their best ball but didn't play poorly, either. We also didn't play our best ball. Played most of the game without one of our starters. Amazes me some of the ticky-tack shit they whistle on Roby while letting maulings go uncalled. Bottom line conclusion for me: We played a good team that played reasonably well at THEIR house, and we beat them without bringing our A+ game. Maybe not even our A game. We're for real.
  24. Next year, JD Spielman will be 1st team, A Mart will be 2nd team and Mo Washington will be 3rd team. Brendan Jaimes and Bo Wilson might reach 2nd or 3rd team. Very encouraging that two of our younger OLs were recognized as being two of the better OLs in the conference. We still need some difference makers on the defensive side.
