Up six spots to 27th. Nice work, gents. -
Statement win. And the statement is: "We're back, and this year we're not going to let them leave us out of the dance."
-
The last time we had a team in the NCAA tourney discussion in November was a full generation ago. This is rarefied air for us. Make sure you breath it in and plenty of it. You don't know when you'll see it happen again.
-
One more thing I remember Miles saying in reference to the bad officiating: I can't recall his exact words, but I believe he said he told this to one of the officials when Roby got his dunk and made that 3. He said "Some of us, our livelihoods are at stake when you make those calls, and now you see why we wanted him out there and why it mattered to us that he wasn't."
-
Yeah, he made that comment, too. Something to the effect that we had one guy with 4 nitpicky fouls all called by the same ref. Said the T was on Lewis, but he probably deserved one too because he told the ref "I don't _____ believe you." I thought they pulled to within 4 with those foul shots but on the guys on the radio said ensuing possession when they cut it to 2. But they said the swing on that call was 9 points because at the time Palmer hits this trey that would have put us up 11? I'm thinking their math was off somewhere. Take away Palmer's trey and give them two technical foul shots and the ball out of bounds and that's a 7 point swing, not 9. Anyway, they talked about that during the post-game and didn't have much good to say about the refs.

Tim Miles is going to get fined based on what he said in the postgame. Kent and Jake were kind of tiptoeing around asking about that phantom foul on Roby, and Miles answered "Which one?!" (Laughter.) And it just kind of went from there. Nobody call the league office. Burn the tape. This didn't happen. Oh, you mean that? Um, that was .... Norm Peterson doing his best Tim Miles impersonation. Coach didn't really dump on the officials (who really deserved to be dumped on.)

I’m counting this year, so I’m not counting that year. -

Have a feeling we’re about to get a lot better sense of what kind of basketball team we have this year. -

I just had to look. We had a high-water mark in Doc's 4th year where we averaged almost 40% from three. The surprisingly bad season was Miles year 3, the year after our NCAA tourney run, where we were about 28% from three. Surprising because it's not what we would have anticipated heading into the season. But looking back on the bad year, everyone would say, yeah, makes sense. But -- without looking! -- tell me who you think was THE MOST ACCURATE 3-POINT SHOOTER in the Nebraska basketball program for a single season in the last 15 seasons. Let's say more than just a trivial number of attempts, so we don't count the year David Rivers hit his one and only trey. Without looking. Who do you guess? I'll tell after the game. -
Obviously, the first two games, we played teams that were way overmatched. But I'd take those kinds of numbers from TA all season long.

2019 SG Jervay Green (Juco) - LOI
Norm Peterson replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I like this class. I think we're bringing in some guys who can shoot and some athletes. The two juniors (includes Dachon Burke) and the two freshmen make for a pretty solid group of athletes. Now, to quote Tim Miles quoting Jim Molinari, "we just need another Copeland and another Roby." Yep, simple as that. -
OK, so this idea maybe didn't go over quite as well as you hoped, but table it for now and bring it back up at New Year's when everyone's drunk and you might get an entirely different reaction.

Record short post for NUdiehard?

A/k/a Tanner, Nanner and Ammer. Or, if you're from Boston, it would be Tannuh, Nanner, and Amee-uh.

Glad to report the kid was ejected from the game ... and then ejected from school. Suspended and barred from campus.
-
Beat 'em bad. Roll 'em like a cheap cigar. Fifteen points or more and it'll be a statement win.
-
If we win out at home and win the CBE Classic, we should go into Clemson ranked. Hopefully, they still will be as well. But I think we'll have to be undefeated to still be ranked when that game rolls around.
-
On top of that, this just isn't a good match-up for Brady. This isn't a team that has just one, decent 6'10" guy. This is a team that will roll out 6'11", 6'10", 7'2", and they're all as athletic as Brady, but more experienced. Our little big men have tools that give them an advantage against bigger bigs that Brady doesn't have yet.
-
Well, there's the "Next 10 Games" one I started about 15 minutes before yours. ?

The team might have their own view of must-win games and I'll leave that up to them. From a fan's perspective, we have our own standards and hopes. My goal is we do well enough that we're only thinking about seeding come Selection Sunday and not whether or not we got to the front of the bubble. With that in mind, we have some important games coming up before we get a break against D-2 Southwest Minnesota State. These next 10 games will either build our NCAA resume or make us really sweat the last half of the season. Obviously, I'd love it if we could go 10-0 in this next stretch. I think we NEED to win 8, though. Here's kind of my view of what we need to do: Seton Hall, home -- must win Mo State, neutral -- must win TTech/USC, neutral -- hope to win Western Ill, home -- must win Clemson, road -- acceptable loss Illinois, home -- must win Minnesota, road -- acceptable loss Creighton, home -- must win Okie State, neutral -- must win CSU-Fullerton, home -- must win Nine or 10 wins in this stretch, we're thinking seeding as we go through the rest of conference play. Seven or 8 wins, OK, but we've still got some work to do. Six or fewer and we'll have to chop some serious wood in January and February. Six or fewer and we're going to really regret some Ls come selection Sunday, some woulda coulda shoulda. Some "like to have that one back." Better option is take care of business, win 7 or 8 of these next 10 (preferably 8+), and feel like we're in good shape going into conference play in January.
