  3. That would be pretty cool. Good TV pub for the university when the camera man finds a celebrity in the crowd.
  4. In watching my first Nebraska basketball team workout this summer, I came away impressed with the athleticism and agility of Leslee Smith, a 6-foot-8, 250-pound junior college transfer. He’s more nimble than I expected, and he carries his weight well. Look for him to challenge for a starting position at forward, where Tim Miles says Smith can play in screen-able situations and play out of the high post. “He’s got a good enough shot, where right now I feel really good about his 15-foot, 17-foot shot, and I would expect he’s going to need to stretch that in time,” Miles said. This is the third collegiate program for Smith, a native of the British Virgin Islands who began his career at SMU and played last season at Seward County (Kan.) Community College. Not surprisingly, he’s still getting acclimated to yet another new system; he’s going a tad too fast sometimes and making mistakes. But Miles loves Smith’s poise and maturity. “He’s a really poised guy. He’s got a savvy-ness about him,” Miles said. “You like being around him. He’s a real magnetic personality.” Miles also likes Smith’s strength. “He did a full workout the other day, and then he put 225 on the bar and did it nine times, and probably could’ve kept going,” Miles said. “He’s just got a real powerful presence about him. That usually translates well into basketball.” http://m.journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/smith-brings-poise-maturity-to-nu-hoops/article_eadb8900-e9af-11e2-a891-001a4bcf887a.html?mobile_touch=true

  7. There is no possible way that Pitchford doesn't start next season. In fact, he is probably 1 of only 3 players that is a lock to start. Pitchford, Petteway, and Shields...
  8. Good article. The two players that this article talks about that I would most like to see commit to the Huskers are: * Leon Gilmore, 6-foot-7, 200 pounds, Houston: Gilmore recently took an unofficial visit to Lincoln with two other Houston-area players (2015 guard Jo Jo Anderson and 2016 guard Hunter Janacek), and likely will make a return trip this fall to Lincoln for one of his five official visits. Playing for a Manvel High School team that went 30-6, Gilmore averaged 13.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists his junior season. In addition to Nebraska, he’s received offers from Baylor, Houston, UNLV, Oklahoma State, Creighton, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Assistant coach Craig Smith is the lead recruiter for Gilmore . * Zylan Cheatham, 6-8, 205, Phoenix: Cheatham has more than 20 offers, including Nebraska, although most are from Pac-12 schools. Purdue is the only other Big Ten school reportedly to have offered him a scholarship. Cheatham plays AAU ball with the California Supreme and will play in the Nike Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C., this week. Smith is the lead recruiter for Cheatham. Now, when does Nebraska add its first player for 2014? That’s difficult to say, although the first commitments to last year’s class — Nick Fuller and Nate Hawkins — came in August. Nebraska isn’t expected to have any official visits until September.

  12. LOL what? I can get board with wanting to make the NIT... but seriously you think we should beat Creighton and finish at least 7th in the B1G? That is crazy. That's not crazy at all.
  13. This tweet by Rosenthal points out one of the main reasons that I think Smith has a good chance to start next season. In addition to this excerpt from the Scout.com article about Pitchford (originally posted by huskercwg in post #1 of the "Walter" thread): "Pitchford might be one of the most athletic players the Huskers have brought into the program in a long time. The best way to characterize Pitchford would be a stretch-four. However, because of the lack of size in the Nebraska front-court, Pitchford will most likely be the starting center. The ability to play small forward, power forward, or center will allow Coach Miles to play with many different line up combinations. A player that Pitchford's game would most compare to is Kevin Durant, of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Pitchford loves to step out behind the three-point line and can also create off the dribble. We are not saying he's as talented as Durant, not even close, but the style of his game compares to what Durant does so well." I think that because Pitchford will be more athletic, rather than a bruiser at the starting Center position, the athleticism, agility, and strength of Smith would be a great compliment at the starting 4-spot. The tweets about Shields make me think that he could possibly see some time at the 4-Spot as well, but I think he will still likely see most of his playing time at the 3-Spot. With his increased height, weight, and strength, he will become even more of a matchup nightmare for opposing SF's trying to guard him, especially when it comes to rebounding.
  14. Kent shouldn't drink before going on the air...... I should probably clarify this. He was talking about Nebraska being picked preseason to finish 12-14, not that he thought they would actually end up there. He thinks they will end up higher than that.
  15. Kent Pavelka just said on Sports Nightly: -There is more buzz around Nebraska basketball than he can ever remember, especially in July. -Nebraska will probably be picked 12-14 in the Big Ten again -Deeper and more talent this year than last year -The talent will overcome the inexperience

  20. Being here on July 13th and being cleared are two different thing from what I'm understanding. I may be wrong tho That is correct. Also, there is a very large difference between being "optimistic" and being "very optimistic." I'm fairly certain Miles just said he was "optimistic." It's certainly more encouraging than his radio interview a couple weeks ago, but at this point it's out of Miles hands. Our admissions dept and the NCAA are going to have to help us out. ok... then: In my opinion, Miles would not have come out with any sort of statement, if he thought there was any legit chance that Webster would not be cleared. First, in an interview on Sports Nightly, Miles said that he was worried about Webster. Then, Webster "carved" the SAT on his 4th attempt. Now Miles comes out and makes the statement that he is now very "optimistic" about Webster being cleared and that he is already enrolled in classes and that he will be here on July 13th. I don't think Miles would come out with a statement like this, if he wasn't sure Webster would make it. It would be one thing for a media member to make this statement, but the fact that Miles himself made the statement. makes me feel that, based on all of the information that Miles has access to, there is an overwhelmingly high chance that Webster will be here in Lincoln on July 13th. Miles didn't have to say anything publicly. The fact that he did, in my opinion, says alot. Miles made a public statement that the situation with Webster has improved and instead of being worried, he is now "optimistic". It wouldn't make sense for Miles to make the new statement to the public/media, if things with Webster were only slightly better now.
  21. Yeah, all things seem to be pointing towards the team being centered around Petteway, Pitchford, and Sheilds. All three are only sophomores, so not only will it be exciting this next season, but it will be exciting to see them play together for the next few seasons.

  23. I agree with this statement generally speaking, but FGCU, Miami, and Cincinnati will all have solid RPI ratings. Even if FGCU and Miami aren't the caliber of teams that they were this last season, which was Sweet 16 caliber, they will still be legit teams. They will all likely have 20+ wins, they will all likely make the NCAA Tourney (or at the very least they will be on the bubble), and they will all likely finish in the top 2-3 of their conference standings. A couple of wins against these teams would help Nebraska's brand recognition early, and then Nebraska's RPI late in the season.
