I have multiple opinions on this topic. --When Miles made the comment "don't put that crap on me...that baggage doesn't exist" I don't think he meant that this history of thd program doesn't exist. I think that he meant that he will set his own precedent, rather than allow the one that has been set by other players/coaches dictate the way they go about things. I think he meant that he (and this team) have no control over what happened before they got here. All they can control is what they do, now that they are here. I believe it had something to do with a comment that someone made 2 months ago, before this team had learned how to play together. Someone called Miles out saying multiple things. One of them being "The time to win is now. We haven't been to the tournament in 15 years..." Miles responded with "Well, you haven't. I have. We know what we are doing and we know how to build this thing." He doesn't want to be the new boyfriend, that is punished by the girl, because her past boyfriends have all screwed her over. All he can control is his actions. --I also believe that his comments were very calculated. I believe that he is trying to keep his team from being so tightly wound when they play in their 1st NCAA tourney game. He knows how fans/media can be here. He knows that the BIGGEST story that will be focused on is "Nebraska hasn't made the tourney in 15 years, and Nebraska has never won a game". Nebraska fans/media have a tendency to beat these things to death, which gets into the heads of the players. I believe it's one of the reasons that Nebraska football was able to play so close with Texas so many time, but always found a way to choke the game away. Because there was so much tension built up in the time leading up to the game.. talking about how Nebraska can never beat them. So these players are asked these questions by all of the local media, and the players read about it in every article put out by the local media. I think Miles made those comments for the benefit of his players. Knowing that the big story is going to be that Nebraska hasn't made the tourney in 15 years and Nebraska has never won a game. I believe Miles doesn't want his players to be concerned with any of that, so he wants to do his best to stop that narritive in the media, before it has a chance to make this team play tight in the NCAA Tourney. Because for them to play to their potential, they need to be focused on the here and now...not the past history of the program. --While Miles doesn't want his players to worry about what this program hasn't done in the past...that doesn't change the fact that the fans have had to experience these things. I don't believe Miles was trying to discredit what the fans have had to endure in he past. He just doesn't want to be held responsible for something that he had no control over. These things did exist. The fans did have to endure these things. Nothing will ever change that. And I don't think Miles is trying to sweep that under the rug. I think he is just saying that he doesn't want Nebraska's past to be held against him, or this team.

https://twitter.com/leebeeowh/status/442644130800209920 Excerpt: LINCOLN — Tim Miles doesn't get caught short for comment often, but a question about the spectacle that Nebraska men's basketball has become in just his second season as head coach was cause for pause. Then came this: “I think real life has exceeded my expectations.” Truer words were never spoken about the sport that long has been the black sheep of the Nebraska athletic department. It will play out Sunday when the Huskers (18-11, 10-7) host No. 9 Wisconsin (25-5, 12-5). The atmosphere that has surrounded Husker football for decades will be on display for Nebrasketball. http://m.omaha.com/article/20140308/HUSKERS/140308745&template=mobileart

Speaking of Nebraska/Creighton... Here are some interesting #Nebrasketball tweets on those 2 subjects: https://twitter.com/un_lincoln/status/442146075911016448 https://twitter.com/neilmannn/status/442110327904145409 -

Except he will weigh 250+ by the time he would get to Lincoln. And that's like 20 lbs more than Vucetic weighs after 2 years in Nebraska's strength and conditioning program. His build also seems much more capable of putting on more muscle more efficiently. I'm not saying I think he is a gamechnger or anything. I just think he and Vucetic aren't very similar, except for the fact that they are both 7'... As Husker fans we all know weight does not a center make(Almeida). Plenty of centers are able to play in college successfully that weigh less than Serj. Height and weight only take you so far, at some point you need talent and athleticism. There is a big difference between 315 lbs and 250 lbs...Almeida had very little lean muscle mass and probably had a vert of less than 6". Again, just like comparing him to Vucetic, Kabadyundi and Almeida have very little in common, except for their height... -

LETS GO!!!!!! MAKE SOME NOISE!!
Nebrasketballer replied to Section_316's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I've said since this last summer that I thought Gallegos should be coming off of the bench. He is a volume shooter and wildly inconsistent, which can be problematic to have in your starting lineup. I like Gallegos, but I think that people have greatly overestimated his shooting proficiency. It is somewhat revisionist history to only credit Gallegos with the games that he shoots 4-of-6 from the 3point line, while ignoring the fact that most games, he makes 0-2 3s per game. That being said, Ray does have the potential to catch fire and go off for 4-of-6, or 5-of-7 from the 3point line, so I hope he can do that at some point before the end of this season. Maybe vs Wisconsin for his Senior day? Or maybe one of the 2 road games vs Illinois or Indiana. I think Nebraska will be fine vs Penn St, Purdue, and Northwestern, if they show up focused and play the way they have throughout this entire season at home. It would be nice to get that extra spark from Gallegos when Nebraska plays Wisconsin, at Illinois, or at Purdue. -

If Nebraska continues to win, then you might be able to add "Tim Miles is the Big Ten coach of the year" to your list. -

I know that a lot of us wanted to get a Grad Transfer this last class to come in and play Center, but I think Nebraska's odds of landing one in this class are much better for multiple reasons. --Nebraska is actually starting to win some games, which will obviously be more attractive than transferring to a team that would win 12-13 games. Winning games and being in the bubble conversation will put Nebraska on the radar of players that they wouldn't have had any chance with in previous seasons. --If Nebraska continues to win, Miles will continue to be in the conversation of Big Ten coach of the year. That, along with Kenya Hunter's reputation of developing post players, should help Nebraska's chances of landing a Grad Transfer. --Not only the opportunity for instant playing time...but the opportunity for instant playing time, while being surrounded with studs like Petteway, Shields, and Pitchford at the 2, 3, and 4 spots. If you're going to transfer to a school to play for a year...I would think that 3 very attractive things would be: 1) Immediate playing time 2) Quality players at other positions 3) Potential to win, and win big These are all possible at Nebraska for a Grad Transfer Center. -

Looking at this in terms of what's best for the sustained longterm success of the program, maybe the best option would be: 2014: 1) Grad Transfer Center (so the scholarship would open up again for the 2015 class) 2) Trey Dickerson (will be a sophomore, so he would be in the same class with Webster and Hawkins) 2015: 1) Bryant Crawford 2) Edward Morrow 3) Keanu Pinder 4) Darien Williams This would mean that in 2015-2016: The Senior class would be: -Terran Petteway -Shavon Shields -Walter Pitchford -Benny Parker (?) - (If Nebraska has Webster, Dickerson, and a Fr PG, this scholarship might be better used on another Grad Transfer Center). The Junior class would be: -Trey Dickerson -Tai Webster -Nate Hawkins -Darien Williams The Sophomore class would be: -Nick Fuller -Jacob Hammond The Freshmen class would be: -Bryant Crawford -Edward Morrow -Keanu Pinder -

I think Nebraska's #1 priority should be to bring in a grad transfer to play Center. This team has a very strong core of talent in the sophomore class (Petteway, Shields, Pitchford). If Nebraska wants to reach their potential as a bball program, they need to make sure that the talent on the roster aligns and can contribute on the floor at the same time. Nebraska needs to make sure that they can bring in a Center that is game-ready right away. That way their skill set can utilized together with Petteway, Shields, Pitchford. Rather than having to develop a high school Center for 2 years, meaning that by the time they are ready to get on the court and contribute...Petteway, Pitchford, and Shields are gone. We have talked a lot about Nebrasketball and that the stars seem to be aligned for some great things. But I think that (since Nebraska isn't in a position to have a roster completely full of high caliber recruits in all 4 classes) it is equally important that the talent aligns, so that the talent can all get on the court at the same time, so Nebraska can strike while the iron is hot. Nebraska needs to have a Center that can contribute right away, while Petteway, Pitchford, and Shields are still here. I always thought Petteway was going to be pretty good, but I had no idea he could be this good. Nebraska needs to take full advantage of the situation, because, historically, players as talented as Petteway don't just fall into Nebraska's lap everyday. So my list would be: 1) Grad Transfer Center 2) Dickerson 3) Atwood or Deng or a high school Center
