In my opinion, Miles would not have come out with any sort of statement, if he thought there was any legit chance that Webster would not be cleared. First, in an interview on Sports Nightly, Miles said that he was worried about Webster. Then, Webster "carved" the SAT on his 4th attempt. Now Miles comes out and makes the statement that he is now very "optimistic" about Webster being cleared and that he is already enrolled in classes and that he will be here on July 13th. I don't think Miles would come out with a statement like this, if he wasn't sure Webster would make it. It would be one thing for a media member to make this statement, but the fact that Miles himself made the statement. makes me feel that, based on all of the information that Miles has access to, there is an overwhelmingly high chance that Webster will be here in Lincoln on July 13th.

Huskers hire Teddy Owens as Administrative Coordinator
Nebrasketballer replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
By BRIAN ROSENTHAL / Lincoln Journal Star The newest member of Nebraska basketball coach Tim Miles’ staff came highly recommended from a coaching colleague and has ties to Nebraska’s former conference. Teddy Owens, the son of former Kansas basketball coach Ted Owens, has been hired as an administrative assistant, Miles confirmed Tuesday. Owens, 31, spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Oklahoma. He was hired by OU coach Lon Kruger, who previously coached in the Mountain West Conference at UNLV, the same time Miles coached MWC rival Colorado State. “I trust Lon,” Miles said. “He’s been a guy that when I’ve needed some advice on different things, he’s been great to be able to help. So when he highly recommended Teddy, I was very interested. “And as I got to know Teddy, I could see what Lon was talking about. He’s going to be a great fit for the Huskers.” Owens occupies the spot previously held by Ron “Chin” Coleman but with a different title and duties. Coleman, who left in September to become an assistant coach at Bradley, was director of player personnel. Miles said Owens’ job will be a “hybrid” position that combines operations and administrative duties, along with some on-campus recruiting. He'll also oversee Nebraska’s outreach program, which involves players' community involvement. “It’s a combination of everything,” Miles said. Owens had previously spent three seasons as head coach at Lincoln Christian (Okla.) High School, where he was 48-27 and led the team to two state tournaments. The elder Owens coached at Kansas from 1964-1983, and coached against Kansas State when Kruger played for the Wildcats from 1971-74. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/owens-joins-husker-staff-webster-enrolled/article_6b8211cf-6cda-5322-b2e9-2ae7e442cba2.html -
By BRIAN ROSENTHAL / Lincoln Journal Star Webster enrolled Incoming freshman point guard Tai Webster is enrolled for the second session of summer classes, Miles said Tuesday. Webster, a highly-touted recruit from New Zealand, will arrive in Lincoln July 13 and begin classes July 15. He recently met a qualifying score on his SAT -- a major step in Webster gaining NCAA clearance -- but has not yet been officially cleared by the NCAA. “I’m optimistic that this is going to get handled appropriately and he’ll be ready to go for us,” Miles said. “It’s just a matter of time. These things take time.” ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla recently said on his Twitter account that Webster would be a Top 30 player nationally in the 2013 recruiting class, if he was a high school player in the United States. The other three members of Nebraska's 2013 recruiting class -- freshmen Nick Fuller and Nate Hawkins and junior college transfer Leslee Smith -- are already on campus and taking summer courses. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/owens-joins-husker-staff-webster-enrolled/article_6b8211cf-6cda-5322-b2e9-2ae7e442cba2.html

Huskers hire Teddy Owens as Administrative Coordinator
Nebrasketballer replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Does anyone know much about this guy? I don't really know much about him. I've read a lot about his dad, but not a lot about him. Also, what exactly will his job as "administrative coordinator" consist of? I'm not questioning the hire. I'm sure it is a good hire, because Miles seems to know what he is doing and I trust him. I was just curious to know more about him. -
LINCOLN — When Tim Miles was hired to coach Nebraska men's basketball, he took less money in his contract to create a bigger pool of funds with which to pay assistants. With a new hire and raises for the two assistants coming back for a second season, Miles is getting close to the $720,000 he was promised. Nebraska's three full-time assistants will make a combined $636,000 as of Monday, the first day of the athletic department's 2013-14 fiscal year. Newcomer Kenya Hunter, hired from Georgetown three weeks ago, will make $230,000, according to salary information obtained by The World-Herald. Returning assistants Chris Harriman and Craig Smith will make $206,000 and $200,000. The Huskers' director of basketball operations, Jayden Olson, will be paid $87,550. The season before Miles was hired, Nebraska paid its three assistants a combined $481,650. The Husker basketball staff is recharging in preparation for the blur that is recruiting in the month of July. Three live evaluation periods are set: July 10-14, 17-21 and 24-28. During the first period, the major event is the Nike Peach Jam in South Carolina. At the end of the month, Las Vegas hosts three concurrent tournaments during the last evaluation period (Las Vegas Classic, adidas Super 64 and Las Vegas Fab 48). Nebraska has two scholarships available for the Class of 2014, with no oral commitments yet.

Yeah I agree. Getting Turner would be an absolute coup for Nebraska and if it somehow happened, then the new basketball court should be named after Tim Miles. Pinnacle Bank Arena, Tim Miles court. -

Recruiting Rankings Update

Josh cunningham was the only guy listed above that he was the first in on and now JC doesnt even list NU as having offered him. True, but I'm pretty sure Miles was one of the first to offer Myles Turner. Also, some of Nebraska's recruits might have had an offer or two when Nebraska came to the party, but there have been multiple cases where a recruit's offer list isn't overly impressive, but after Nebraska has been on them for awhile, they start to blow up with some impressive offers. And hasn't only happened with high school players. Most people weren't very impressed with Sai Tummala's offer list when Nebraska offered him, but he started to blow up towards the end of his recruitment. Myles Turner has been in the top 150 on Rivals for awhile. Sure he moved up the list but to say he was unknown would be a farce. Basketball recruiting is very different from football where the top schools only have 1-4 scholarships in a given year so they have to be very selective with whom they offer otherwise they could fill up extremely quick. The top tier teams have the luxury that they can come in late to a guy that was maybe #120 and moves up to #30 and still have a shot with him. Well, Turner was literally quoted as saying that Nebraska was the first, or one of his first (maybe first BCS school?) offer and that it means alot to him. That is probably a big reason why Nebraska is still even listed as being in it with him at this point, even though he is getting interest from the blue bloods (like UCLA) now. -

Welcome coach Hunter to Lincoln!

Just an update. Kenya Hunter is up to 970 followers on Twitter, so he is getting pretty close to that 1,000 mark! -

Miles talking about Iverson: Tim Miles, Nebraska basketball coach: “We first started scouting Colton when he was 16 (while Miles coached at North Dakota State and Iverson was playing high school hoops in Yankton, S.D.) ... I remember the impact of the first practice we had him in at CSU. Just to see what he brought to our program and the possibility was so exciting. We knew he was going to be special. I remember telling him, ‘you have a real chance to be an NBA player, but here are some things you have to develop and some things you have to do.’ Colton worked. He was willing to. He wasn’t satisfied with his progress, and I think that was a big thing key for him coming to CSU — he trusted the coaches. “I remember being on a flight, emailing back and forth with Niko (Medved) about the game plan to recruit Colton. He came in town (for a visit) and I told Niko, “go get him.” We really wanted him. He’s such a good kid. I was just talking to him Monday night, Yankton, S.D., is only two hours from here (Lincoln, Neb.) and I was thinking about driving up and getting him lunch, but I think he has enough going on this week, if you know what I mean.” http://www.coloradoan.com/article/20130626/SPORTS0202/306260041/NBA-Draft-Greatest-memories-former-Colorado-State-center-Colton-Iverson -

Yeah he's a stud. He and Jojo Anderson should both be highly ranked prospects. It is amazing how easy Rogers makes dunking look, considering he is only 6'0" tall. He is definitely athletic and would be very fun to watch in a Husker uniform.

I actually like this too. I agree that you couldn't pull this off with many school colors, though.
