Will be much easier to get to the basketball tournament, thus giving you the chance. I hope they both do this soon. Miles is playing in, potentially, the most difficult conference in the country. Getting to the tourney is not going to be easy, but I think Miles can get there in the next five years. Pelini can't win the conference when the two best teams in a weak conference can't even make the conference championship game. The time for Pelini to make the BCS was last year and he missed it. B1G football is going to be top-heavy very soon, and Nebraska isn't going to be sniffing the playoffs because they won't get past tOSU or Michigan (let alone both in the same season). Though he's currently playing in a more difficult conference sport-wise, I have greater faith in Miles to do what has never been done in this history of the school over Pelini to do what several coaches prior have done (play for the big one...or even make one of the "big" bowls). He didn't say it was going to be easy, he said it was going to be "easier", and he's right. Miles has to get to the middle of the pack, no easy feat in its own right to be an NCAA worthy team in this conference. Also, I disagree that the window is closed for NU to get past the conf. title game. There's talent coming up through the ranks on the defensive side of the ball, they're going to be much more athletic over there. It might not take hold completely this year, but you're going to see them get closer to the caliber of athlete you saw in 09 and 10 that shut down the Big 12. They've been stockpiling talent on the offensive side of things so they should be good on that side for a while. If NU goes undefeated or even one loss, they're not going to get shut out of the BCS. There's going to be a lot of things that NU can't control, nor any team for that matter, about getting into the playoffs, and conference schedules is one of those things, they're going to just have to take care of business with what the have in front of them. They should be in the conference title game 3 of the next 4 years. If you told me that, I'd take it right now, no questions asked and take my chances they'd find a way to be successful there soon enough. Get there and anything can happen in a one game situation. The schedule certainly sets up for a return to the championship game this year, but that will (more than likely) mean facing tOSU and I give Nebraska no chance in such a match up. Lose the championship game and Michigan will surpass us for the BCS (or playoffs...assuming the BCS or playoffs take two schools from the weakened B1G)."Lose the championship game and Michigan will surpass us for the BCS".This is not absolutely true. If Michigan loses to Nebraska and then again to Ohio St late in the season, then Nebraska would go to the Rose Bowl, if Ohio St is undefeated, which would put them in the National Championship game...

Breakdown of the Charleston Classic

Nebraska vs UMass is definitely a game that Nebraska can win next season. It's obviously not a guarantee, but Nebraska has a good chance to win the game. -

Love it. This is yet another game that should help Nebraska's RPI next season. Last season, UMass finished 6th place in the A10 and 4 games behind 1st in the standings. With Butler and Xavier leaving for the new Big East, Umass should have a legit chance to contend for a conference championship and will probably finish in the top 3-4 in the standings. That means they should be able to rack up alot of wins. Again, more good news for the Nebrasketball schedule. Last season: UMass: 21-11 overall (9-7 conference)

From an ESPN article today: That's the obvious conclusion from Monday morning's announcement that forward Aaric Murray was leaving Huggins' West Virginia program after just one year at the school. Huggins announced the news without specifics, saying it was the product of a mutual agreement that Murray would be better off playing out his final year of eligibility somewhere else. More likely is the possibility -- reported by CBS Sports' Jeff Borzello -- that Murray was dismissed from the team following another brush with trouble. Before he transferred to WVU, Murray earned a reputation for prickliness at La Salle; during his 2011-12 transfer holdover year, he was arrested in charged with marijuana possession. Whatever the issues behind it, the latest edition in Murray's rambling story makes him the fifth player to transfer out of Morgantown this offseason. Previously, guards Jabarie Hinds and Aaron Brown and forwards Keaton Miles and Volodymyr Gerun asked for their release. Of that group, only Hinds was a key contributor in WVU's 2012-13 season. Hinds -- with his high turnover rate (20.8 percent), horrendous shooting percentages (38.9 from 2, 27.6 from 3, 8), and gawd-awful offensive rating (85.5) -- was emblematic of the atrocious offense that made last season such a nightmare for Mountaineers fans. His departure is addition by subtraction. That's a more difficult argument to make about Murray. Even as WVU struggled last season, Murray posted a 106.4 offensive rating, grabbed 23.7 percent of available defensive rebounds, and posted a tidy 8.6 percent block rate. Even were he not skilled enough to shoot 51.7 percent inside the arc -- with a solid post-up game and a reliable 15-foot jumper -- his numbers say he's a major asset on the defensive end of the floor. That's why Huggins, like a handful of other schools, was eager to take Murray on after he left La Salle, and it's why most observers pegged the Mountaineers to have a resurgent season in 2012-13. http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/86334/aaric-murray-is-on-the-road-again

From an article on Aug 4, 2011: The transfer from La Salle spent the summer practicing and working on his game as he tried out for the US Basketball team in the World University Games. Murray had made the first cut when the initial roster of 21 collegiate players from across the country was cut to just 14. Then on August 3rd, the team was cut to a 12-man roster, of which, Murray was not included. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/792844-wvu-center-aaric-murray-cut-from-us-basketball-team

I thought that he actually had to play in a game, in order for his academic scholarship to switch to an athletic scholarship. I could be wrong.

Freshman Playing Time - Tim Miles ranks #1
Nebrasketballer replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Except for the ones who don't play, or who rarely play. Those guys were all but forgotten when compiling this list. That's not the point of this article/list though. Simplistically, the question is 'If you're good enough to play as a freshman, will you?' Check out part 1 of the article for the full explanation. I didn't want to post the whole list from the link you posted, because it's pretty long, but here is the percentage for Tim Miles: PctMinFr - Coach - Team 21% - Tim Miles - Nebraska -
I'm not sure exactly where it is going, but it will be somewhere in the 'Rail Yard' on Canopy St, about a block away from Pinnacle Bank Arena. Yeah, this will be the first Mellow Mushroom in Nebraska. Most of them are in the southeast. Mainly SEC country and a few ACC states. Of Big Ten and Big 12 states, I think there are a few in Texas, 1 in Indiana, a couple in Ohio, and now 1 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Freshman Playing Time - Tim Miles ranks #1
Nebrasketballer replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Excerpt from article: -I exclude players that used a low number of possessions on the season. Thus I am basically talking about mid-level or strong freshmen at each program. If a freshman is just hoping to keep a scholarship, none of the above analysis really applies. -I drop players with injuries. I.e. Nerlens Noel and Kyrie Irving are not included in this calculation. -Finally, it matters a lot whether a coach is engaged in a rebuilding year. For example, Tim Miles has basically gone from one rebuilding job at Colorado St. to the next at Nebraska. I attempt to control for rebuilding jobs and that moves Tim Miles down some. But even after accounting for this, Miles has still been unusually committed to freshmen. For example, last year Nebraska’s Benny Parker had dreadful measured stats; but Miles stuck with him. In 2008 at Colorado St. Adam Nigon never shot and wasn’t efficient; Miles stuck with him. Nigon eventually became a productive senior for Colorado St. And Miles really stuck with Pierce Hornung at Colorado St. As a freshman Hornung was undersized and afraid to shoot - he wasn’t even a great rebounder yet - but Miles stuck with him. Hornung eventually became one of the all-time greatest rebounders in college basketball. Providence’s Ed Cooley has had a similar profile to Miles. He has faced rebuilding jobs at Fairfield and Providence, but he has also been even more committed to freshmen than the typical coach. Favoring Freshmen, Major Conference Coaches with at least 5 Years as HC Fr Rel to Soph - Team - Coach 6.1% - Nebraska - Tim Miles 4.5% - Providence - Ed Cooley 3.0% - Kentucky - John Calipari 1.6% - Texas - Rick Barnes 1.3% - Santa Clara - Kerry Keating 0.8% - Oklahoma St. - Travis Ford 0.4% - Drake - Ray Giacoletti -0.9% - George Mason - Paul Hewitt -0.9% - Alabama - Anthony Grant -1.0% - Colorado St. - Larry Eustachy http://basketball.realgm.com/article/228847/Freshmen-Playing-Time-Part-2 -

Level of Expectations for 2013-14 Team
Nebrasketballer replied to aghusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Was is not synonymous with Is. Creighton will not be a top 15 program this next season. They will still be solid, but not top 15. Losing Echinique is alot bigger deal than people are making it out to be. Obviously, McDermott is the All-American on the team, but losing Echinique in the paint next to him will have an effect on the team. Just because Creighton might have been rated in the top 15 or so for a few weeks last season, doesn't make them a top 15 program.
