  1. To take a break from basketball, I want to mark the passing of the person who I think truly is the "father" of rock and roll. Chuck Berry. He wrote all his songs, which were really, really good. He kicked ass on the guitar. He had a great stage presence. John Lennon once said, if you wanted to rename rock 'n' roll, you could call it Chuck Berry. When I heard the news of his passing yesterday, I was really bummed even though he lived to be 90. I'm sure Buddy Holly greeted him at the Pearly Gates and said "what took you so long?" Chuck replies, "Me? Ask Keith Richards that in another 40 years." So many Berry videos I could have posted, but I chose this classic to show what PBA ticketholders look like at a Husker game. Check out the people behind Chuck. RIP Mr. Berry!
  2. My favorite Rams of all time; Roman Gabriel, Deacon Jones, Merlin Olson, Vince Ferragamo and the dad whose son just walked on at NU. Yeah, Rhode Island, too......
  3. 0-7 without a doubt. We now have bragging rights to futility. No Tourney wins, no conference championship in 101 years, the best facilities in basketball, 1 winning record in the last 5 years, a basketball administrator whose record in 13 years is abysmal, a head coach who kicks ass on Twitter but not so much on the court, but, the silver lining to this gawd awful cloud? A fan base including everyone here that still supports this cluster f*** no matter what. I'm not running out of patience, but I'm running out of time. I won't live to be 150.....
  4. If I'm Indiana, I'm not leaving the state for this next hire. My first phone call is to Indianapolis to see if the Butler A.D. wants to get back into coaching.
  5. Thanks, HB. My weaker brain cells have been attacking the stronger ones. God knows which side wins....
  6. I got a question. For the life of me, I can't remember what we used to lovingly give Doc grief for the term he used always. It wasn't calling Sek (Sack), I remember that. Was it "you know"? Every time he talked, it came out several times. I mention this because I listened to Miles on the clip Dimes provided. I've never noticed him saying "um" ever before. Couple 3 on this one.... I'm not suggesting anything. Maybe Miles always does, like I do, says um, when he's processing what he wants to say next. I've just never noticed it before. One other thing; around the 12 minute mark Miles mentions "nothing worse than malaise" when talking about a fan base and what could happen. This tired fan is moving from being patient to malaise. Very slowly, mind you.....
  7. My expectation is to get an administration and a coaching staff to be on the same page and to actually like each other. Let me explain. Devaney and Cipriano. They got along fine. Rumor has it they were drinking buddies, but who cares. Football was and is king, and before Joe came down with cancer, his teams were trending upward. 1977-78 went 23-8 and won a game in the NIT. But then, came Moe Iba. Moe's demeanor sucked, his offense boring, he had an affair with Mabel Lee and he couldn't win a game in the Big 8 Tourney to save his life. (Maybe a couple). When you hand in your letter of resignation right after you just took NU to their first NCAA Tourney game, relationship with your boss isn't good. Danny. My favorite coach. Great recruiter, great fit to be the AntiOsborne, (not a knock on Dr.Tom, Nee was just the opposite, which at the time, was refreshing). He had no problems with Bob, who hired him, and Bill Byrne, who actually supported him when most of the players walked. (Pussies...) But, Byrne, looking at attendance numbers, made a change after 13 years of good basketball. Thanks, Bill. Barry Collier. Byrne hires Collier and bolts. In comes Steve Pederson (the false prophet) and brings Marc Boehm with him. Instead of letting Collier go, he brings him back for another year and Mr. Butler bolts for safer havens in July and says screw you Nebraska. So, here comes Doc. I love this guy. He came into the coaching graveyard, and was always positive. He did his damndest. His record so far, is better than our current coach, and he never had the facilities. Tom didn't hire him, so.... Tim Miles. I'm not going to say anything about him one way or the other. His current boss didn't hire him, so I don't expect him to stay. That's understandable. It's the way of this current world. What we need is an administration and a coaching staff to be here for at least 7 years. Probably won't happen......
  8. Hard to foul when you're 5 feet away from the shooter.
  9. Dirk checked in with an opinion piece in today's OWH. Makes some good points. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/blogs/mad-chatter-how-tim-miles-can-prove-shawn-eichorst-right/article_ba5e618e-04eb-11e7-a3f5-5fac3855592c.html
  10. I've got another. What if after the 1999-2000 season when Nee was fired, Bill Byrne went waaaaay out on a limb and offered Bill Self a million dollars a year, guaranteed 7 years, to come coach at Nebraska? He'd have a statue outside the PBA. Of course, at the time, he would have been run out of town......
  11. They knew how good they were. They needed better team chemistry. Actually, they had one player who should have majored in chemistry instead of gynecology....
  12. You might be over thinking this. If SE believes Miles is the right man for this program, he extends his contract tomorrow. If his contract isn't extended, recruiting for 2019 and beyond is over. Screw the finances, the athletic department has the money.
  13. Until there's a contract extension, I'm not sure Miles is back. He can take another job in the next couple weeks and not have the stigma of being fired. Not predicting that, just saying it's a possibility. Whatever happens, GBR!
  14. I see there's a person who doesn't like the Atlanta Rhythm Section.
  15. Sorry this thread is starting early, but it's the only time I could get it in before tip-off. So, an occasional bump would be greatly appreciated. There's really nothing left to say about this game and season that hasn't already been discussed here, so I'm going to quote Coach Miles from yesterday's press conference and leave it at that. "Quite frankly, we're a team that has been punched, punched and bleeding...we're in triage. We're trying to stop the bleeding so they don't stop the fight." Let's see if they can make it out for another round. GBR!
  16. because the Russians hacked their Ipods just like they hacked the football teams' Ipods to make them collapse at the end of the season. Damned Russians say they will be the only Big Red in the world. I kid because I care. Norm, sometimes crap happens. There's not always a specific cause and effect.....
  17. You can click on that link. It's the wrong one. I got the right one edited into my post.
  18. I'm truly living in an alternative universe. Lee writes an article in support of Miles, taking shots at SE and Boehm, and somehow that makes the team clutch up and play like it's that time of the month for each and everyone of them? That's part two of living in this messed up universe. There's a frickin" coloring book out called Toni the Tampon which says men get periods, too. http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/culture/sarah-stites/2017/03/06/toni-tampon-coloring-book-reminds-kids-men-get-periods-too I just need to get drunk and stay that way til sanity returns to my universe....
  19. Talk about going from the cip penthouse to the cip outhouse.....
  20. Let me be Captain Obvious for a second: We really screwed the pooch these last four games, didn't we? geesh....
  21. Two part game thread. Let's talk the game first. What a frustrating year. Notice I didn't say season. When a certain transfer occurred, we knew things might not go as hoped for. But whatever, that's Nebraska basketball. Most knew this season was gonna maybe get six or seven conference wins which we did. Good thing? No. The 3-0 conference start got expectations really high. Injuries kicked our ass and now Tim Miles is headed to Missouri. But before he goes, he needs to beat Michigan at least once. He has an 0-7 record versus the Wolverines. Hell, he can't beat McDermott, at least beat these jack-wads once. I think he will. Michigan opened up 3.5 favorites and the last I saw, the line is now 5 and a half. I actually like Nebraska to win tonight and beat Iowa Thursday. GBFR! (No, the F wasn't a typo...) Now for Senior Day: I've been trying to come up with someone in Nebraska basketball history that has made a meteoric transformation from his freshman to senior year. I can't. The closest for me, and this doesn't really fit is Jack Moore. Jack came off the bench as a freshman and averaged 3 points a game. When he started his sophomore year, he averaged 14 a game and stayed close to that his last two years. He won the award, whatever it was called, his senior year as the best player under 6' in the country. Tai's journey isn't quite the same, but in my mind, he deserves the award for most improved player ever. and along with Tyronn Lue, one that never quit. Tai is a New Zealander by birth, but he will be a Nebraskan for life. No matter what happens the rest of this season, he can know he's loved here and he can always hold his head high!
  22. Well said! You just voiced what I think everyone one this board feels. Tomorrow's game thread will continue this thought.
  23. Sorry, the correct answer would be a ten-game winning streak. No salsa for you.
