Washut is now projecting Wilhelm to replace Walker in the starting lineup. If he’s an upgrade over Walker already as a true freshman, that’s huge. Derrick was one of our most consistent players last year.

They forgot to mention that CBS and Turner Sports will broadcast the NCAA Tournament again this year, so that's another six games, as well as the three we'll play in the B1G Tournament.

Chris Basnett's observations from Pro Day:
    * The first 10 on the court for 5-on-5 drills looked like this: Alonzo Verge, Trey McGowens, Bryce McGowens, Lat Mayen and Derrick Walker on one squad, with Kobe Webster, Keisei Tominaga, C.J. Wilcher, Wilhelm Breidenbach and Eduardo Andre on the other. That left scholarship players Lakes, Quaran McPherson and Oleg Kojenets on a team with walk-ons Sam Hoiberg and Jackson Cronin.
    * DePaul transfer Keon Edwards was in his practice gear but didn't participate in the workout after playing in Friday's Opening Night event. It was the opposite for Mayen, who sat out Opening Night, but was active Tuesday morning. Walk-ons Chris McGraw and Jace Piatkowski also didn't take part in the workout.

11th? That's pretty high for a preseason ranking for us. Hope we don't get any nosebleeds from not being used to the thin air.

If 11th is the line, I'm going take the overs/aboves.

WB was constantly in the right place at the right time. That no lift jumper is wet. He's definitely going to play.

Was really hoping to open up my favorite site today and see someone else write this... highly disappointed everyone. Highly.

First off, if you think you can make any definitive assumptions on this team after that, you're a lot better at this than I am. They were just having fun and playing pick-up - with the intention to entertain and have fun.

I'm going to start off with the main topic I'm sure everyone is wondering. Yes, Wilhelm Breidenbach will play this year and yes he's probably the greatest pick-up in Nebrasketball History. As soon as he signed his LOI looking through his thick goggles the program changed.

Wait? Who? McGowens? Trey? Trey's has a brother on the team? That's so nice!
SO...... Two things can bet true at once. 1. Bryce McGowens has an NBA frame, skill set, etc... etc.. etc.. to be a Lottery Pick. 2. Bryce McGowens might not necessarily be ready to (or need to?) lead a B1G team as the go-to guy, give him the ball and get out of his way, 23ppg or whatever else a lot of us are thinking a 5-star could be. In other words, I don't think this is Kevin Durant for Texas. THAT'S OK - THERE'S A LOT OF GOOD, PRODUCTIVE SPACE BETWEEN KEVIN DURANT AND YOUR TYPICAL 5-START YOUNG LOTTERY PICK  - PLEASE TAKE YOUR CAPS LOCK OFF AND DELETE THE POST YOU'RE MAKING GETTING READY TO SCREAM AT ME.

There's a really good reason why I say the last paragraph. That reason - there's a lot of other dudes on this team who can tote the rock and be the guy any given night. We're gonna have Lat's night, Trey's night, Verge's night, etc.. Heck - maybe even Keisei's night (good lord it's scary to think of the runs he could go on if the match-ups are right).

Anyways - I'm not going to spend too much more time on the scrimmage. I don't believe you can draw much from what they showed Friday. But I will say I can foresee two potential issues:
    1. Rebounding/Girth. This has plagued us in the past. Especially if we can't play our tempo and make shots. We're kinda skinny again. I don't see a guy who I'm like, "that guys gonna get double digit rebounds a game." I hope Walker can withstand the pounding down there, and I really hope Andre is serious about trying to be more "Rodman-like" as he's mentioned on a podcast.
    2. Who's team is this? I see some potential conflict brewing... Who's our leader? Who's gonna have their hand on the ball in crunch time and late in the shot clock? I feel like there's a bit of a conflict between who believes they're that guy and who actually is. We'll see! Could be (I hope it is) nothing.

Common misuse of the direct-address comma isn't a problem usually. Everybody knows what "Happy Birthday Bob" and "Go Big Red" mean, even if they should be "Happy Birthday, Bob" and "Go, Big Red." The problem comes with sentences such as "Let's eat, Grandma!" and "Let's eat Grandma!" or a sign I once saw at Macy's in Boulder — "Welcome Back Students!" The hell with you, Macy's. I'm not welcoming back students. The town was better without them.

What I’m most excited about is there probably won’t be a night that someone isn’t cooking from deep.  There’s just too many good shooters on the roster/offensive skill to go team-cold anymore.  Keon, CJ, Bryce, Trey, Kobe, and maybe Verge can all get it going from deep as well.  But the best pure strokes I saw were Keisei and Wilhelm.  I’d probably put Lat in the latter category too but he didn’t play last night.

Another hot take:  Keon is a better athlete than Bryce—stronger and more explosive and maybe a better 3pt shooter.  I don’t think he’s a better player as Bryce has pretty good handles, but don’t sleep on that kid.  He’s high energy.

Overall I was way more impressed with the newcomers than I thought I would be.

Rothstein is actually a bit tepid in his praise. He thinks Verge and the two McGowens brothers are All-Conference caliber as a backcourt, but like us, he's not sure how we'll defend and rebound.

His rotation of Verge, the two McGowens, Mayen and Walker followed by Keisei, CJ and Keon leaves out ...

frickin' Kobe Webster, Eduardo Andre and Wilhelm "The Flying Dutchman" Breidenbach, whom he also praises.

I mean, if that doesn't scream "Hey, this squad is deeper than your typical Husker team" I don't know what does.

If you trim the rotation to 8 players, it's going to leave some quality guys on the bench not getting minutes.

Let's make it happen. Do you know any songwriters who can mimic that cheesy '70s style, and any poets who can write lyrics that 8-year olds can understand? I'm happy to serve as executive producer. Oh, and we'll need some funding.

If only Schoolhouse Rock (for those that were kids in the '70s or had kids old enough in the '70s) had done punctuation cartoons along with grammar.
