I hate college basketball, and if Iowa wins on some lucky heave again tonight, I may not go to work tomorrow (because it's another shite day here in Iowa City).

My father officiated high school and small college football. At Seacrest Field about 30 years ago, he was serving as the umpire, who stands in the middle of the defense. He was blindsided and tore up his knee pretty badly. I sat among a group of Grand Island HS fans, adults all. As my father lay on the field, in clear pain and distress, these GI people cheered and said some of the most vile things I've heard from alleged adults. They quieted down only when the ambulance came on the field. I've tried to be judicious in my critiques of officials since. And I've always hated Grand Island, though I know it's irrational.
