Toured PBA tonight for the first time since its been mostly completed. A couple thoughts here. To put it simply, a great facility. Nothing is left out. The building has everything. From student entrance to players entrance to coaches locker room to drink prep room. Yes, a room labeled 'drink prep room'. Attached to the locker room, complete with ice machine, pull out hose with several huge tub sinks. It's the Gatorade prep room. I guess all arenas might have one, I had just never thought of it until tonight. The 3rd level is way way way up in the air. If you're up there you're going to have a great perspective. But man that is high in the sky. I took some pictures and made some observations. One topic of concern has been exactly how close to the action will the students actually be. We've heard numbers. 6 feet. 8 feet, etc. I sat in that front row and it feels pretty close. They did have the pull outs all the way out in the 10 row orientation with a railing in front of the first row. For the games there will be no railing and there will only be the 8 rows. I don't know how the pull outs work. I don't know if when they pull them out to the student orientation if that means the front row ends up further back then where it was tonight or if it comes out to the exact position it was tonight. I did some measuring. I paced off the distance from the railing in front of the first row to the back of the bench and came up with 12 feet. The first row is another couple feet back from the railing so maybe 14 feet total if you're in the front row. I really hope the students don't go even further back with the 8 row orientation. If they are you're talkin close to 20 feet back. Having said all of this, it still feels close and maybe it feels closer once things such as Gatorade coolers, equipment, or a 2nd row of bench gets put behind the current bench. I did take my shoes off and waddle out on the floor with all the kids. I made my freethrow and avoided any more strenuous activity. Pictures coming.5 points

Saturday, September 7, at 1:00 p.m., Nebraska volleyball take on Georgia; at 5:00 p.m., Nebraska football takes on Southern Miss. If I was Tim Miles, I'd be tempted to make sure Elbert sees those really tall girls in spandex before he leaves Lincoln.3 points -

Maybe the recent interest from Elbert Robinson is what caused us to cool on Gilmore Or maybe our chances with Jonah Bolden are better than I thought3 points -

Doc was a pretty bad recruiter, and he couldn't coach an offense. pretty bad combo. I believe it was someone on here who wrote that Mike Gesell's parents said Doc told them that Nebraska wasn't dedicated to the basketball program (or something along those lines), and that was part of the reason he didn't come here. If that was the same poster who claimed he was listening in on Doc's phone calls with Elliott Eliason and spending time in the Gesell's basement, well ... I wouldn't believe a thing he said. Doc's strong suit was defense. I disagree with those who say who couldn't coach offense. His problem was that he didn't recruit guys who could shoot the damn ball. And that goes back to his failings as a recruiter. I question, first of all, his eye for talent when he brings in a kid like Alex Chapman but never offers a kid like Sheldon Jeter. And I don't honestly know whether his assistants were strong recruiters. He certainly didn't use them for much in the way of coaching and I don't know that they helped a lot with recruits, either. I agree that Doc had his flaws and one or two of them ended up being fatal to his NU coaching career, primarily the recruiting. But I will continue to maintain that he was a good Xs and Os coach. He just didn't help himself out with the players he was putting on the floor.2 points -

Everybody should see them at least once, Norm. HUBBA HUBBA!! I keep trying to decide who's the sicker pup on this board, Norm or Cip? Oh, that's not even a close call. For instance, I would NEVER post a video of Cher wearing some sort of thong-type outfit. Eeeeew. That which has been seen cannot be unseen. And that's not an image of Cher I want to have in my memory banks. Frankly, the less Cher in my memory banks, the better. On the other hand, who can argue with my observations about good looking volleyball players at Nebraska through the years? Sick? I ask you: My semi-obsession with hot-looking Husker volleyball players? Or Cip's semi-obsession with Christian Standhardinger's recreational activities? There might be a sick puppy in the room but he's not sitting in the chair I currently occupy. It ain't me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec0XKhAHR5I2 points -

As was stated above, he cooled, we cooled, everyone cooled, who cares to some degree, what fun to have so many good options to discuss. Something sorely lacking for a long long time.2 points -

Sounds like Houston may be a player for Gilmore. And rumor has it momma may want him to stay close to home. With us only having one schollie it appears we are looking elsewhere.2 points -

Here's the answer to my trivia question: Dee Proby, Garrett Stutz and Colton Iverson were all big men recruits who came here on official visits going into Doc's second season at the helm. At the time, Chris Balham was the only scholarship underclassman on the roster taller than 6'6". The starting job at either big position for the following year was absolutely wide open. And we didn't get a commit from any of them. Not a single one of them. And none of them really had any better list of offers than the two guys coming in this weekend. Which just happens to be the recruiting cycle going into Tim Miles' second season at Nebraska. To sit here knowing we have a commit from a quality big already and 3 more scheduled to visit in the next two weekends, including a Rivals top 50 kid, it just blows my mind.1 point -
From what I heard they are going to allow the public to shoot hoops during the open house weekend. Yes. You can shoot baskets. I did it last night. I didn't know how this was going to work but they make you take your shoes off and you can scoot around in your socks. At first I felt weird being the fat guy out there with all the kids but then I inspired some other big kids to come out on the ice.1 point

Yeah, you're right. Gilmore probably cooled on us, and then, serendipitously, out of nowhere, we get this official visit from a guy 27 spots higher in the Rivals rankings who also happens to fall into a greater position of need.1 point -

Counterpoint: Andre Almeida. I'm in no way implying that he's anything like Almeida but stating that you could apply your reasoning 4 years ago when bringing in Andre. However, even if this guy is a stiff and doesn't pan out he'd still be a major asset and be an important role player. The floor is pretty high on this guy which is one reason he's ranked so high.1 point

I don't care what any poster says.....Louisville, Kansas, Ohio St, and Florida have offered him. I think the coaches of these programs have proven they can evaluate talent.1 point

Bo's not the only one that has banned twitter for his players. A lot of coaches do it. Heck remember when Turner Gill banned his players from talking to girls at certain times? Heck even Miles has talked about how dangerous social media can be for college athletes. But he believes in educating on how to properly use it. I implore anyone to look up every player from every team we play during the year on Twitter. You'll find that nearly 50% are banned from twitter during the season. I use Twitter and facebook as my main sources for information to trash talk and it's becoming harder and harder to find.1 point

idk either im just speaking in grand assumptions.. which loosely based on information ive read from this bored and a few sites. for whatever reason we are hosting Smith and Wacker this weekend and i wouldnt be shocked if smith or wacker commit. id be shocked if both did or both had commtitable offers. Maybe Gilmore commits this upcoming few weekends to Creighton and this convo is moot (who am i kidding that will only amplifly the conversation) I don't disagree with you about our apparent interest, Bobcat. I just find it curious. And like I said, what I know for sure is that I don't know anything about the whys and wherefores of the inside workings of our basketball recruiting efforts. But it appears that, for whatever reason, Gilmore is no longer in the cards and I don't understand that. Just sayin'. i think the recent visit from robinson may be a clue...who knows this is so confusing but so awesome! we are know saying to kids who are rivals 150 that you know what...eh were gonna hold off...we think this guy may help us....cool times ahead for NU1 point

I'm thinking maybe Miles just wants a garbage man type like Smith or Wacker. You can't have 13 scorers, there's not enough shots to go around. Smith sounds like an unselfish player who gets most of his points on hustle points (offensive rebounds, in transition, etc.). Could be a good guy to bring off the bench for 15 minutes a game.1 point -
