First Segment

Got 2 out of 3 from the Christians, Catholics and Rhodys, talked more about Rhody to start.

Mentioned the next two games and the upcoming conference games

Talked about the 11 games in a month.

Talked about the freshmen.  Jacobson starting...Watson getting the kind of minutes he should be getting...McVeigh is coming along....gotta get Ed going....love his talent and heart and going to meet with him (Tuesday) on some film to get him going.

Your 'how much does Miles read this board' exchange of the night

Sharpe: Glynn Watson....a lot of people are hung up on whether or not he should be starting and you said 'well, he got starter minutes in that game and was in there at the end'..isn't that more important than who starts?

Miles: I read about that, yes I read about that. There is a lot that goes into that. Do you want to start both of your point guards at the same time? Do you want to take a senior leader like BP out of the starting lineup? I'm not sure I want to do either of those two things. Those two things are options but then it messes with a lot of your rotations after that. We'll see..will get the both on the floor at times though with the way fouls go you never know how these things are going to play out.

The last 10 minutes they (benny and glynn) were in the game together and the last 6:43 Miles thought they played well. Joked about Glynn's "circus shot" at the end of the game...anyone else he'd be mad at them but with him stuff like that goes in so I just don't talk to him.

None of the freshmen had a good night at Creighton. We just can't have that and unfortunately none of the upperclassmen helped them out.

Talked about Jacobson starting and related him starting at Creighton vs a 5-9 kid at Colorado State Kaipo Sabas getting his first start on the road at Duke. Trial by fire. Jacobson started slow as he had the foot injury (so did Morrow and Evelyn). He also thinks Jacobson is a guy who elevates his game playing with the veterans on the team.

Fuller: Did a great job, earned it. Miles notes both times he regretted not playing Fuller they lost. Miami was one of them. Nick is in a tough spot....the 9th or 10th man. Does well in practice, keep finding minutes for him. However McVeigh has such a good 3 point shot that we gotta keep throwing him out there and he does well in practice as well.

Weren't as aggressive as they needed to be vs Creighton...played much more down hill vs Rhode Island. Meets individually with guys but mentions that after every game he sits down with Shavon and watches the game and feels it's been good for the both of them....he gets a better sense for Miles' feelings on players, actions they're trying to run and what they're trying to do defensively and he can take that out on the floor during practice...that's what a leader does and he also has a better feel for what's expected. He had a couple of great practices going into the Rhode Island game so Miles wasn't surprised to see him do well. Was disappointed in Andrew's struggles...when he struggles on offense he struggles on defense. You can't let one thing effect the other...if he wants to play professional basketball that's one thing he'll have to adjust to quickly

Sharpe asked whether they listened to the radio broadcast when watching the tape...not often. Miles liked the perspective of Davison who was an athlete and a guy who had seen good and bad basketball. Though Pavelka always brought it in big moments and they used his call of Benny's 3 during a recent recruiting trip. Every once and a while they sync up the audio for the full experience.

Tangent story about the Tai technical on the missed dunk. Close game they have an outlet pass, one dribble, pass and Tai just kind of lays it in. He runs over to Matt Davison and holds his hands "this close".  What had happened is that during one of the broadcasts Matt had said (Miles using his Matt Davison squeaky voice")  I don't think Tai Webster has ever dunked at Nebraska. (Actually, that was a pretty good Davison) Of course Tai wants to prove to him he can dunk and he didn't.

On the next possession there was a back cut and he made the play but missed the dunk and hung on the rim for a technical. So I had to take him out and say "Ok, the fun is over, make your layups"  Two points to the other team thanks to Matt Davison.  ;)

Second Segment

Practices are off due to the finals/holidays. Miles worries about certain players when the routine changes...some guys need a structured go to class, do this, do that more than others. Sometimes you get a senior who doesn't have a great year because you have a guy who only takes 6 credits and it really messes up your routine....you have more downtime, more lay around time.

Time to talk about Creighton. Tough start both halves. Had been going up the day of but mixed it up and went up the night before like they would for any road game. Went out, practiced well and then came out and played like we were in a fog. Miles though a mistake he made was showing them tape of Creighton from last two years and wanted Shavon to see how they'd play off some guys and wanted to keep guys like Tai and Benny aggressive. Tai and Benny had bad nights and Shavon wasn't aggressive...drove through the lane to pass instead of score.

Was lackluster early, got some good lineups out there, fought back, got it back to 4 right after half. Michael went out with an injury, gave up 2 straight scores inside, missed a rotation out to a 3 and pretty soon it's back to 10, pretty soon you blink and it's 15 and now everybody's mad. Didn't want to use his timeouts right away because if you do so before the first 4 minutes it's a full timeout and it counts for the media timeout.

First phone call: Bob from Lincoln. Any thoughts about playing Morrow at the 4?

Miles: His only issue with Ed so far is acclamation to detail on the game plan so if he's not quite ready to go it's hard to play him at multiple positions. Ultimately he'd like Morrow to play the PF because he's just undersized against some of those guys inside but he can guard so we like him out there being aggressive. We're trying to keep him aggressive but he also is neck and neck leading the team in fouls per minute...both him and Jake didn't play a lot against Rhode Island and subsequently Rhody didn't go to the FT line much. Have to look at the types of fouls...is it because of the new rules or the mis-match in size? Right now early they're only trying to play him in one position but in the big picture he's a power forward type player.

Miles talks about Fuller again being in the 10th spot....it's the worst because maybe you're playing or maybe you're not. Those guys have to be on board for you because if they're disgruntled then that effects the team. Nick has been a champ about it and he knows it's not easy. Biggest complaint is that he sags to much to help and he gives up 3s. He did the same thing vs Maryland last year on a couple of Layman 3s and we lost by two. He has to figure out how to do both.

Thought Glynn answered quickly vs Rhode Island scores....they never enjoyed a big lead because after they'd make a big shot he'd come back and do the same thing and it was critical.  In the Creighton game couldn't get him going...threw one off the side of the back board..he really wanted to get going in that game and sometimes that works against you. Overall you can see his future will be very bright.

Andrew played well vs Creighton...can carry the team at points and you can see his athleticism which is why he's also a leading rebounder in addition to scoring.

Third Segment

Talked about volleyball though probably won't be able to go because of recruiting. Actually, recruits love to go to a volleyball game.

Talked about offensive efficiency being much, much better than last year. Miles' biggest concerns are fouls and turnovers. With all the games haven't had a chance to punish guys with making them run for turnovers but in the next couple of weeks he'll be able to 'get all of the cookies out of them'. We don't have a high percentage inside game but our 3pt and FT shooting making up for it. Explains what offensive efficiency is. Talks about the lack of a center...can remember one Jacobson play in 2 games. Sharpe brings up MJ's made 3 and Miles comments that he made those in Spain. Sharpe said he reminds him of Ubel and Miles thinks he has a little bit more spring and maybe even a little taller though it might be the hair. Talked a bit about Tai's hair.

Last Segment

Talked about Samford. Coached by Scott Padgett. Commented that they only lost by 10 to Louisville (he mixed up LV and Texas). Guys will go home after that game and come back the 26th.

No show next week.

Basically, this years Fuller would be playing multiple minutes and have a bigger role on any Nebraska team over the past 10 years... Man... How nice of a problem is it to have a player like that (bought into the system, knows his role, practices and plays hard, is good enough to earn minutes but doesn't always play) on our team?

Thought the quotes about Benny being a leader were a nice compliment to him.  I have always been a Benny fan (I think I am in love with his defense).  I have always said that when the offense isn't going, there is one thing that can save you and that is D.

Sounds like we play best when Glynn is flowing offensively.  That was obvious, but it sounded like we were missing him in Omaha.

Some good information.  He responded to a lot of the questions/comments/concerns that are voiced here.  He likely cannot be 100% transparent, but at the same time, what he says is not classic coach speak either.
