Not very good news coming out of Maryland today.

 

Maryland women's assistant basketball coach accused of sexual abuse in Kentucky

 

Maryland women’s basketball assistant coach Bryce McKey has been charged with sexual abuse against a player he coached while serving as an assistant with the Xavier women’s basketball team.

 

McKey will be arraigned Friday morning in Kenton County (Ky.) District Court on a misdemeanor charge of sexual abuse in the third degree, which stems from a May 2 incident involving a Xavier women’s basketball player.

 

Maryland indefinitely suspended McKey on Thursday evening, according to a school spokesman.

The ick factor is high with this one.  Knew the girl in elementary school.  My concern is that he will walk away from this because technically he was no longer her coach when he decided to be handsy with her.

Ooops.  Didn't see a thread had already been started on this.  He's a creep, perhaps.  But her allegations against him are that he touched her butt twice without her permission and tried to give her a kiss when she was leaving his house.

 

That's HER side of the story, not his.  So, it's no worse than that.  That seems pretty tame, to me.  But, what do I know.

His lawyer pleaded not-guilty this morning for him to the misdemeanor charge of sexual abuse and then Maryland announced he has resigned as a coach for the Terrapins. He's also being investigated for felony sexual abuse with another Xavier player, but as of now no charges have been filed.

Maryland replaces Bryce McKey.

 

Maryland women’s basketball head coach Brenda Frese announced the hiring of assistant coach Terry Nooner Tuesday. Nooner comes to College Park after coaching at Alabama the last two seasons. Prior to his time with the Crimson Tide, Nooner coached at his alma mater, Kansas, where he played from 1997-2000.
