hal9000 Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 It can become a "here we go again" mentality, even though these players had absolutely nothing to do with our past woes. We fans can't help but think it, but these players shouldn't have these thoughts in their head. Quote
49r Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Unfortunately the players do not live in a bubble and the media and fan focus on any team which has not won something in the past will be just that. The players will just have to accept that fact, live in the moment, and use the lack of previous success to motivate themselves. It is quite possible to do just that and we have the 2004 Boston Red Sox as an example. We haven't had our bloody sock moment yet though... Silverbacked1 and hhcmatt 2 Quote
JohnnyOneNut Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 I started believing that the status quo was changed when the University committed to building the practice facility and the PBA was built. I started believing more when reading the resume of Tim Miles. I started believing even more by watching Miles' team improve game by game. It really hit home after attending games in the PBA. If you need a curse lifter...a sign....a something....believe in PBA Magic. It's the magic of how committing to a winning financially plus hiring the right guy will do for a program In my opinion this post captures the spirit of the "Thank you fans" video...well done Quote

a0t0w0 Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 Demons? Is this what we are now blaming poor coaching, poor recruiting and disasterous contract extensions on? No no no. Norm, I will modify Coach Miles comment yesterday to respond..."You save those demons for you" (his actual quote was "You save that baggage for you, don't put that crap on me" (great quote btw)) Only someone like bradguru could turn this discussion into what it's become. AuroranHusker Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 This feels like the success of the last years of Tom Osborne's coaching tenure. The big difference, however, is that it's only the beginning of Tim Miles' coaching tenure. To me, it feels more like the Dave Van Horn era. This is exactly what it is. Good call, sir! Yep, made similar comment recently. the comparison of Miles & VanHorn seems to fit... to that end, won't that mean Nebrasketball will be making a deep run in the Big Dance?! Quote
Popular Post Shuttlesworth Posted March 12, 2014 Popular Post Report Posted March 12, 2014 Miles often refers to his Elementary Ed schooling, but the guy is a bonafide psychologist. It was quite appropriate that HE narrated the "What If" video this time around. (The same script read by a voice resembling Morgan Freeman during the season opener). There is something to be said for truly believing in a process, or in anything really. And it's crazy what can be accomplished by simply believing in something. Miles' belief in his own process is very genuine and apparent, and it has helped guide him from Doland, SD to Head Coach in the Big Ten. He hasn't even been here two years, but now a whole fanbase believes in his process—and in this team. Pregame videos and pump-up narratives are often very cliché. That video wasn't. That video gave me goosebumps: The part of the video where it says, "What if one, then five, then fifteen, then fifteen thousand..." Truth be told, this wasn't just a bunch of BS spewed to appease an intro video, it was actually quite profound. (But how many people truly believed when the same script was read before the FGCU game)? "What If One?" Miles clearly states a goal of going 9-9 in the league. He makes it known that he wants to get to the tournament and win when we get there. How many people other than Miles, his staff, (and a few on this board) think that this is achievable? "Then Five" I believe it is after the Ohio State game, we are sitting 1-4, and Petteway states, "We want to get to the NCAA Tourney." Experts and the majority scoff. It becomes apparent that a handful of players start buying in, but at this point we are still anything but cohesive. "Then Fifteen" Roll out the US Always Warmup shirts. An unfortunate circumstance provides as a coming together moment for the team. We win five of our next six, including a win at Michigan State. During this stretch, collectively, the entire team buys in. "Then Fifteen Thousand BELIEVED?" The Michigan State win has the diehards believing. We appear on the bubble and in contention. Tickets to games begin to 'actually' sell out. We beat a surging Indiana team in Bloomington. A buzz can be seen and heard across the state. Ticket prices to the Wisconsin game skyrocket. The game atmosphere is electric. "What If I Told You It's Happening?" One of the biggest wins in program history is accomplished. We finish fourth in the conference. We are on the verge of our first tournament appearance in fifteen years. We are seen as a legitimate contender to win the freakin' Big Ten Tournament! http://youtu.be/HWZ3rZu7SDc Mr. Red, hhcmatt, Norm Peterson and 8 others 11 Quote
