Just wondering what your opinion on Valpo was and how we are going to stop Ryan Broekhoff. He put up a double double today against Northern Illinois and is going to be tough to stop Thursday. Obviously we will probably put Ubel on him, but when Ubel is off the court, do we go with Rivers? Possibly even put Talley on him since Broekhoff is such a good player on the perimeter? Just wondering all of your thoughts.

A quick look at kenpom today reveals that:

Valparaiso is #107

Nebraska is #213

Northern Illinois is #304

Obviously, the Valpo and NIU game today is not factored in yet, so that will have some affect on these numbers, and I believe Nebraska is slightly under ranked right now due to the small number of returning players, they probably should be somewhere in the #150 or so neighborhood, if you ask me.

Also, consider that Valpo played NIU at home, and we get them at BDSC, and there may be some advantage gained there.

So, what conclusion, if any, can we draw from everything I've mentioned above? Probably none. Just presenting a little fuel for discussion.

And that they played a game at 7:00 AM today.

Announcers said both teams were at the arena by 5:00 AM.

I would assume they need to go to class today

Bus to the airport, because there isn't one in the town is there?

Travel here.

Then play us at 8:00.PM-9:00 their body clock time.

I know young bodies recover faster but that has to help us a bit.

Might be grasping at straws but it does help us one would think.

Well, and then, once here, they'll have to contend with the Red Zone. So, we got that going for us.

lots of students there...but there was still a number of empty spots in the Red Zone. But then again like typical Nebraska Basketball games...there were a lot of empty seats. Granted most of them will be filled come conference time...but still for a first year coach and last year at the Bob...anything less than half full is kind of disappointing. This does bring up a question or two..or three. I occasionally notice that there are empty spots in the student section...but then look up in the B section behind the student section and see a number of Red Zoners sitting there. Do they just not want to join the rest of the students (those that sit up there seem to suffer from the lack of energy that a lot of the non students suffer from) or do they have seats up there? How does that all work?

Some are nontraditional students that are slightly older than the normal Red Zoner. Which I don't get because I sort of fall into that category.

Some are people that just don't want to join in the antics.

Some are people who want to sit with friends that aren't students so they congregate in that B section.

Too bad they don't let non students site down there. I love sitting with my dad (as I have since the late 70's) in the upper section but the 2 years I had down in the student section were some of my favorite years. I'd still go sit down there once in a while if I could.

If the student section starts thinning towards the end of the year just go down and sit there. I did a couple times last year.

Back on topic, from what little of the first half of the Valpo game I saw this morning getting ready for work, there is a very real potential that it could go bad and quick. If Nebraska can keep that from happening and somehow get the crowd off their hands they'll have a punchers chance. And a little foul trouble never hurt either.

I was trying to figure out who would cover Broekhoff as well and I'd forgotten about Rivers because Ubel can't do it the entire game and they're going to foul out Andre in less than 15 minutes. I think Rivers can cover outside but I'm not sure he can handle anyone's post game.

I could almost swear that when Andre's getting gassed and needs a dead ball in order to sub out, if no one travels or throws the ball out of bounds, and no one else fouls, that Andre "takes matters into his own hands" if you will, and creates his own dead ball. You just watch. Is it because he's foul prone? Or is it because Andre needs a little breather?

Amen brother Norm, amen!
