Huskers Aim for Seventh Straight at Ohio State Thursday

The No. 17 Nebraska women’s basketball team shoots for its seventh consecutive win when the Huskers take on Ohio State in Columbus on Thursday.

Tip-off between the Huskers and Buckeyes is set for 6 p.m.

The Huskers are coming off their sixth straight win with a 76-51 victory over Indiana. Nebraska has opened February with five straight wins, stretching its February winning streak to 13 games. Nebraska takes aim at its third consecutive 20-win campaign when the Huskers take the floor at Ohio State on Thursday. With their next win, the Big Red will become the first team in Nebraska history to notch three straight 20-win campaigns.

First-year Coach Kevin McGuff brings Ohio State into the game against Nebraska with a 14-14 overall record and a 4-8 Big Ten mark. Despite their .500 record, the Buckeyes rank No. 55 in the NCAA RPI, thanks to a strength of schedule that ranks No. 2 in the nation.

OSU posted a 10-6 non-conference record with losses to No. 1 Connecticut, top-10 Maryland, top-20 Gonzaga, Georgia, Bowling Green and Cincinnati. The Buckeyes defeated a top-20 West Virginia team 70-61 in McGuff’s debut. The Mountaineers are 22-3 and ranked No. 13 this week. OSU also defeated a top-25 Purdue squad to open conference play.

Since the win over the Boilermakers, Ohio State has managed just three more wins - at Indiana, at Michigan and most recently against Illinois in Columbus. However, all three of those wins have been by double digits, including a 26-point pounding of the Illini.

Since that victory, they have suffered four consecutive double-digit losses in February, including a 70-49 setback at Michigan State on Saturday. The Buckeye offense has stalled the last three contests, managing just 53.7 points per game against three of the league’s top teams

Nebraska leads the all-time series with Ohio State 6-4.. The Huskers have won four straight in the series with OSU

Probable Starters:

Nebraska Cornhuskers
3 - Hailie Sample - 6-1 - Jr. - F - 6.5 ppg
23 - Emily Cady - 6-2 - Jr. - F - 13.5
35 - Jordan Hooper - 6-2 - Sr. - F - 20.0
33 - Rachel Theriot - 6-0 - So. - G - 13.0
1 - Tear’a Laudermill - 5-9 - Jr. - G - 10.8

Ohio State Buckeyes
23 - Martina Ellerbe - 6-2 - Sr. - F - 8.5 ppg
22 - Darryce Moore - 6-2 - Sr. - C - 8.6
13 - Cait Craft - 5-8 - So. - G - 8.2
14 - Ameryst Alston - 5-9 - So. - G - 17.6
25 - Amy Scullion - 6-0 - Jr. - G - 2.9

Jordan Hooper hit a season-high six threes and pumped in 31 points to shoot No. 21 Nebraska past Indiana. Hooper’s first three of the second half and fourth of the game made her NU’s career three-point leader, passing Kiera Hardy.

Jordan ranks No. 2 on Nebraska’s career lists in points (2,165) and rebounds (1,035). She needs 17 points to catch former Purdue great Stephanie White (2,182, 1996-99) at No. 11 on the Big Ten career scoring list. Hooper needs eight rebounds to catch Karisma Penn (1,043, 2010-13) from Illinois at No. 10 on the conference career rebound chart.

Emily Cady scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her 11th double-double in Nebraska’s win over Indiana on Sunday. It followed her 10 points and 11 rebounds at Wisconsin Feb. 5, which gave her 10 double-doubles on the season to join fellow forward Jordan Hooper in Husker history. Hooper, who  owns 10 double-doubles this season, and Cady are the first teammates in Nebraska history to each produce double-digit double-doubles in the same season.

Rachel Theriot is coming off her third 20-point performance of the year with 23 points, six rebounds, eight assists, two steals and one block in the win over Indiana. It was her 17th double-figure scoring effort of the season and 24th of her career.

If you remember last season Ohio State fired one of their most successful women's basketball coach they've ever had in Jim Foster. They thought they had Gail Goestenkors hired but she backed out at the eleventh hour. They wound up hiring Washington head coach Kevin McGuff after he had signed a huge contract extension with the Huskies.

Needless to say McGuff is not welcome back in Seattle but he did sign a top 5 recruiting class last November.

Impressive comeback.  I'm sorry I doubted this team earlier in the B1G season.  I do worry about the amount of minutes the starters are playing.  Havers contributed some nice play at the end of the first half while Hooper sat with two fouls.

Signs of a good team being down 9 on OSU's home court with 10 minutes left in the game and battling through it by going on a 17-2 run late in the second half to win it.

same thing i was thinking after the game. approximately 6 games ago, i wasn't sure which way this team was headed. opponents were very well aware of the preseason hype, and for the most part, nebraska is getting opponents best shot. hats off to the team and the coaching staff!!!

We got a technical foul before the game even started.  Announcer said it was because we didn't have our starting lineup handed in in time. I wasn't aware of this rule.  Does anyone know more about the rule?  How soon do they have to have it turned in?  I have to say that in all my life I've never seen this called before.  Thank God we didn't lose by a point or two.

10 minutes I think.  apparently it got called in another Big 10 game recently.  I guess everyone should be on notice now for sure.

It was called last Sunday in the Ohio State/Michigan State game.  OSU was the one that was called for the same infraction as us last night.

Rule 10

down the time before the start of the game, each team shall supply the

b.
After the 10-minute mark is reached on the game clock that is counting
down the time before the start of the game and until the end of the game, a
team shall not make lineup or roster changes to the scorebook except those
changes necessitated by obvious injury, illness, blood on the uniform, a
replacement of a designated starter to shoot a technical-foul free throw, or
to correct a scoring or bookkeeping mistake.
