I don't think we're close enough to contending to want/attract a one year player.

It makes sense to pursue if we don't have the scholarships filled for next year.

When do you start looking at those guys?  After they graduate?  After the season?

I don't think we necessarily have to be close to contending to attract players like that. Just playing in the Big Ten and having playing time available would be more than enough to attract such a player (often from smaller schools). Now whether there is a decent graduate senior available is a completely different story...

The way I interpreted Dimes comment was not that we, as Nebraska, can't attract them but that we're not yet ready to look that direction because we still have offers in play to legit recruits.  I think what Dimes is asking is at what point in time do you start to look the direction of a graduate transfer?  I think the answer is that if you reach a point where you don't have a legit recruit on whom you want to spend 2-4 years of tying up a scholarship and you still have a spot available as well as a need, then you look at the graduate transfer route.  That's just my guess.

If a good enough graduate kid reaches out your direction, though, I suppose you might stop looking at other options.  If the kids you're presently looking at seem to be reaches, then talking to that graduate transfer could be very appealling.

Yeah, that's my bad. I read his post way too fast.

Still wondering how you go out and find these grad transfer guys.  I suspect they have to find you.  Anyone know for sure?

You go through their high school coaches most of the time.

You can't communicate with them unless they get their release but you can go through their high school or AAU coach.  You can also put the word out through your own channels that you are looking for someone which may help them find you
