cipsucks Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 As I was listening to KFAB this morning, they had a news story about former UNL basketball player Tony Cato. Here's a link to the story WOWT Channel 6 ran. For the life of me, I do not remember Tony Cato playing basketball for the Huskers. Can someone spur my memory? Regardless, good for him. The guy shows guts and determination. Quote
CrazyforNUHOOPS Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Checked the archived rosters on Huskers.com back to the mid-60's and he's not on any of them. Quote

Cip, You appear to be around as long as me....born in the baby boomer era...I do not remember Tony Cato either...nor is Cato found on www.huskers.com except for a track and field player...not a letter winner in bball...and certainly not a star. Some facts appear to be askew. Still an interesting story...but it makes you wonder. Quote
uneblinstu Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 According to the media guide, there have been no players with the last name of Cato that have lettered in basketball at NU. He didn't play at UNK either. Couldn't find an all-letterwinners list for UNO. Quote
hhcmatt Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 He is 50 so he would have been college aged in the early 80s. He might have played basketball but it wasn't for the Huskers. Quote
uneblinstu Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 A quick look at all letter winners at NU, I don't see him listed anywhere. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Perhaps Anthony Cato had been more of a practice player for Moe Iba's squad... Quote
uneblinstu Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Possible. But it calls him a star, which would mean he'd have won a letter at some point, he doesn't show up on any letterman lists, someone didn't fact check. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 Perhaps Anthony Cato had been more of a practice player for Moe Iba's squad... Did you say "Gallo" with a "G"? No, it's Jerry CALLO with a "C." Jerry Gallo's dead. Daledangdarn, atskooc and hhcmatt 3 Quote

Handy Johnson Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 Could he have been the personal assistant to one Inspector Clouseau? Quote
Daledangdarn Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 So did this guy just make up that he played for Nebraska? Quote
hhcmatt Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 So did this guy just make up that he played for Nebraska? Probably. He also got hit by some drunk asshole with no insurance and is still partially paralyzed because of it. Quote

Did you know he also wrote and illustrated a pretty darned good children's book? Quote

It's a valid point. Possibly he has received greater charity by making up a connection to the U. Given his circumstances I don't have a problem if this is the case. Quote
