Doesn't it start to feel a bit like a pat on the head?

Yeah, but what else do we have?  No tradition. 

 

This is as good of a place to bring it up as any, but last night while I was out reveling with the Big 12 fans at Power & Light, every conversation that I struck up with old Big 8 fans instantly mentioned the Nee era when I told them I was a Husker.

 

First words out of their mouths were "You're a Husker?  Man, that Danny Nee was a hell of a coach!"  They then proceeded to rattle off all the names of the greats of the 90's...Piatkowski, Lue, Strickland, etc.

 

They also all mentioned how much they liked Tim Miles and think he's gonna take us places.

 

Not that it means anything, but it's nice to hear from fans from Mizzou, KSU, etc.

I'm trying to eke out all the enjoyment I can of this season tonight.

Well, guys and gals, it was an entertaining season.  Good things are in store for this program!

Vooch need to work on his free throws.  He seems to get to the line every time he is in but misses them.

Was looking over the ESPN board... 15-18.  That was our final record.... GUYS THAT IS ONE HELL OF A JOB.  Look at the team we had/have.  We basically played 7 guys the last half of the season.  We have three seniors.  Almeida and Ubel will be tough to replace... ok Ubel will.  Almeida, I love the guy, but he just never really found his stride here.  Talley and Ubel will be two big losses.  We have Shields Gallegos and Parker back.  Peltz will be returned.  We have 3 wonderful recruits, and 3 redshirts that were just itching to get out there this year.  Do not be surprised to see us in the NCAA's next year.

 

I know we will be young, and we have to replace a few guys... but if this team can achieve 15-18, I have to think that next years team can do better, and will do better.  The future is bright.  We shall see just how bright in about 8 months. 

 

One last thing...

Ubel-  Thank you for the leadership and effort you played with.  You were a great TEAM player, and did most of the little things right.  You played your butt off for 4 years.  There were few people that thought you could do it, but you were one of them, and that is all that matters.

 

Talley-  You will be missed.  You stepped up into another leader role this season.  Sad you can only be here for 2 years.  You will be missed next year.  Thank your for all of your hard work.

 

Almeida-  Big guy, I am sorry it did not work for you here.  You have some ability, and at times showed some fire that would have scared even the most hardened criminal.  Thank you for sticking it out, and being a TEAM guy.  You had some bad luck, during games, but you pushed through.

 

Seniors, THANK YOU  You guys were the start of something special here at Nebraska!!  You guys bought into a system in year one, and played your hearts out!  Nothing to be ashamed of, and nothing to be hanging your heads about.  15-18 in the best conference in the county is very nice!  I know the season did not turn out how you wanted it, but you gave us one HELL of a ride!  A few bounces here, and a few made shots there, and we were right there!  Good season but most of all GOOD CAREERS!!

P.S.  To the young guns, you guys have a next year.  The seniors can not say that, but you can.  Work hard in the off season!  Push eachother!  You guys can do it next year!  We have potential!  Push yourselves, and lets surprise some people next year.  We do not need someone to step up and be a leader, we need ALL OF YOU to step up and be a leader.  I look forward to watching you K some A next year!
