2023-2024 Reflections

Recommended Posts

Since were in the dog days of summer and now that the college basketball transfer portal madness is over, I thought it would be fun to create a thread about the 23-24 season and the memories it brought given it was one of the best seasons in Nebrasketball history.

Here are topics of interest.

  • Favorite game
  • Best specific moment
  • When did you realize this team could be legit ?
  • What did you like about the team ?
  • Favorite player
  • Most important player
  • Best memory
  • Most frustrating game

As you can see, I'm leaving it open to include a lot of different topics, but I thought it could be a fun discussion.

I want to answer all!

  • Favorite game: Wisconsin-- Purdue is an easy answer, but that comeback!  Ohhhh baby!
  • Best specific moment-- KT's deep three right before the half against Indiana in the B1G Tournament. The look of "What the hell just happened" in the IU players & fans eyes.  The arena going crazy (outside of the IU shirts and jerseys). Wild thing. It was one of the multiple moments where I thought "this is the year" for something special.
  • When did you realize this team could be legit ?-- Kansas State.  2nd true road game and we were coming off an exhilarating win after two bad losses. The way we controlled that game in that environment was amazing!
  • What did you like about the team?-- How close and cohesive they were.  This is the 2nd year in a row where we replaced a lot but were pretty cohesive and close.
  • Favorite player-- I'm going with the easy one here. Keisei Tominaga. The dude is fun to watch. National treasure.
  • Most important player-- Juwan Gary. This was a tougher one and I'm going with a likely lesser popular answer. Rutgers on the road though. Enough said.
  • Best memory -- Attending the Minnesota game.  Was the only game I got to in person.
  • Most frustrating game-- This one has to be A&M. Not just because we didn't get over the hump.  We didn't play well period and they played lights out.  Frustrating game all around.

Favorite Game: Sure, it might be an easy answer, but it's one that hadn't been done in 40 years. That's something special. Whether on Peacock or not.

Best specific moment: Probably that race in the final days of the conference season to secure a 3 seed in the Big Ten. There was still a lot of movement with Northwestern and Wisconsin in the final days to secure our spot in a double bye.

When did you realize this team could be legit: Probably when we started stacking wins on Michigan State, Kansas State, and Indiana.

What did you like about the team: We haven't had a team in awhile where you could feel confident that any player on the court could make a shot. This felt like a team who could challenge an opponent anywhere on the court.

Favorite player: For what it represents? Sam Hoiberg. Give me anyone who's scrappy who's willing to lose some skin on the court to save a possession for the team.

Most important player: Keisei. Hands down. Whether you believed in the hype or not, this is the face of what got Nebrasketball some attention again.

Best memory: Coach Hoiberg getting the National Coach of the Year award. Wow. That was special.

Most frustrating game: Some people will say Creighton. Sure, that was embarrassing. Absolutely. But I honestly don't care. That's 3% of our season and has little impact to the outcome of ours (or Creighton's season). The Texas A&M game was the most frustrating. Typical, in Nebrasketball fashion. A&M doesn't shoot the three ball, but then plays us and shoots lights out. High expectations for us and flopped in the moment. Add Trev on top of that and it was just one frustrating outcome to such a memorable season.

K-St. was the game I realized they were the 'team I wanted them to be' in Hoiberg Hoops from the beginning, despite what happened against CU at home. And, yet, don't forget 18-1 at home, oh yeah, that 1 L was tough one to bear but 18 dubs were NIIIICE.

I liked the heart & hustle that this team displayed, THANK YOU JO!!! Glad that Allick will be around to 'teach' the squad as a G.A. -- and the 5-out offensive system with the 3-ball, so so nice to have Hoi-Ball be in effect, as mentioned from the top, with excellent help-side D, it was truly a dream season despite how Memphis & the BTT played out.

Fav Player: #30 in the starting lineup and #1 off the bench

2 Most Important Players: Juwan & Only, and Brice is Nice

Best Memory: Memphis, those first 7-8 min. were ecstasy

Most Frustrating: Illini x2

I wasnt going to reply because all my favorite/least favorite moments are pretty much all mentioned already. But after rewatching highlights from that @Illinois game..............obviously the foul on cj wilcher at the end of regulation was quite awful. but the real kick in the you know what comes at 9 seconds left in overtime. Am i crazy or was that 100 percent a foul on TSJ?!! Dude got all of Reinks arm. Probably not the worst part of the season but that was bad (especially when winning that wouldve gave us the 2 seed in the BTT). On the other hand, other than that game and a couple other ones listed above this was without a doubt the best season I've had the privilege to watch and I cant contain my excitement for next season. Oh and by the way my absolute favorite part of the season was Juwan Gary going completely insane and hauling in 18 boards in that KSU game. GBR fellas
