Hmm, do you really think so, or are you "hoping" that she is moving well.  To me, her lateral movement is still limited.

She is better than I expected, but still only 80% or so.

The brace maybe with her from now on. There are plenty of athletes that play with a brace. Watching Louisville VB on Wednesday and Anna DeBeer was wearing a brace so it is possible to play and still play well. She also may not be 100% and may use it til she feel like she is completely back.

Good point.  I only noted that she “seems” to be moving well.  We won’t know until we see her in action.

I agree with all the above discussions.  Volleyball at Nebraska is unique with it's level of talent.  As for Maggie at the end of this VB season she will have to make a decision on whether her future is in VB or BB.  Obviously I hope it's BB.  If it is she could redshirt  a year and still be with the team picking up skills and experience and then have 3 seasons left, one with Markowski  and two after that. She could become quite a force on the BB court.  If she chooses VB then it more than likely will be the portal.  We have 3 great recruits coming next year in VB including a high rated middle blocker.

 

just curious as to whether anyone else caught this pre-game interview (gopher-husker vb match) with coach cook? John Baylor brought up in detail Maggie Mendelson's accolades while in hs and asked coach cook about her. coach didn't even acknowledge it and went directly to discussing Andi Jackson.

hmmmm...does kinda make one wonder why he skipped right over Baylor's comments. 

then again.........maybe it's a nothing burger.

Thanks for bringing this up.  I listened to it and  In my recollection Baylor brought up the question about Mendelson saying : " you have a talented Maggie Mendelson as a backup Middle Blocker but is playing behind Andi Jackson etc.  I thought good we will hear a little about Maggie.  Coach answered but just as you noted only talked about Jackson.  Baylor could have pushed a little farther but didn't.  Whether it was intentional by Cook or not we probably won't ever know.  Lauren Cook West isn't shy about asking the tough questions and doesn't allow her father to get off the hook.

Previously about a week ago in an interview I think by Jessica Coody she asked the coach about the fact that we have 3 committed recruits coming in 2024 but no scholarships available right now with no seniors on the team.  He said that has already been addressed and it is all figured out which means to me they know which scholarship players will be leaving at seasons end.  Maggie is not on a volleyball scholarship but I will stick to my previous post about her making a decision which will be announced at the end of the VB season as to which sport she will concentrate on in the future.

Remember their was a 5 million donation to The 1890 initiative (NIL) for volleyball only. I expect at least 2-3 players will leave after the season.

Cook also has 3 more commits for 2025.  With 3 in 2024 there's a natural log jamb in numbers. All the current volleyball starters, will be back next year too. And most are freshmen (no seniors). They look like their having fun, so doubt any leave.

 

So obviously there will be some "attrition" among those not playing consistently now. Like has been discussed at length, Maggie may be one of them unfortunately. 

 

Cook really has it tough finding recruits.

Per the LJS, Allison is now back with the only restriction being her load of work.  She is also wearing a brace.  

It will be interesting to see her on Friday.  She still has a month before fist tip.

You can also listen to Amy's presser from yesterday on youtube, X, etc.. Amy, John, and Fred all talked. Amy said no restrictions and slowly ramping up Allison's work load.

I love that she said the focus is defense. I feel like we have a quick team who can really disrupt on defense. It will be fun to see what they can do once they are really meshing. I really think we are going to surprise some people. I also love the energy that Julian brings to the program. LET'S GO!!!

So is anyone going tonight? I would normally but I have hay down and it needs raked and baled. Would be nice to get a update on Allison from outside the normal channels. Plus the whole team. Last year they played against the men practice players.

She needs to be  completely recovered before she attempts her comeback in basketball related drills.  She may be practicing plenty of shooting.  Allison would certainly infuse a talent boost on next year’s squad.

Yes I thought the same thing about the statement on Anni and Maddie.  If that holds true we will have 4  open scholarships for next season.  Also Allison is taking a redshirt this year so will have 2 more years.
