Ed Chang is a 5-Star type player
HolyBobpilgrimage replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Excited about this guy. Yeah he should start early and put on some weight, but then again he's really similar to the slim reaper in body type, so maybe not too much. I swear to god, if we let him get stolen by iowa or creighton....again. grr I have a feeling we'll at least have a chance, with how good a recruiter Tim & Co seem to be -
HHCC Game #22 - at Purdue (Jan. 30, 3:30 PM CST)

Tough to win this one away ..but I am starting believe after Illinois. Perhaps we take one at home, but not today. Purdue/74 Nebraska/61 -
Yeah I really couldn't fault the huskers for that loss. They were just on point as they always are, which unfortunately in a conference like the B10 is more common than not with a lot of our elite teams. Nice thing is, this kind of elite status seems to be fluid, with new teams entering every year. Only takes a great recruiting class or two, a good fan base (we have) and a bit of luck in the close games and you have a juggernaut in the conference. Big gain/reward in such a good conference. For example, you saw how meteoric the rises of mich a few years ago, Purdue, Iowa and Maryland were this year. It's totally possible for us, and I feel like the vibe us good here in lincoln. We're still shaking off demons of the past, but we've made a lot of progress down this road already.

Nebraska(11-8) vs. Michigan State(13-6) Game Thread
HolyBobpilgrimage replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This win will help the noise level Saturday, I suspect. A sweep of the state of michigan? That'd be a dream come true. Can we do it? Only if we stay in form like tonight. The crowd will be NO problem. We'll be rockin. -

Though unfortunately that's exactly what we said last year, to the the tune of "we'll make that run like last year in the next stretch of games", but it never really happened. I've seen flashes of brilliance from the team last year and even more this year, but not getting my hopes up. Love the optimism tho. That attitude is what our fan base needs to maintain.

I think I've finally decided
HolyBobpilgrimage replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I believe I'll be adopting your strategy as well. Much better than my paralyzing pessimism approach towards this game. I'm tired of getting dramatically let down every year. :'( With this new POV, I'll come right out and say I HATE uncle Ralph(creighton). Love the underhanded slap in the face to creighton and their fans, we all know full well they don't deserve our respect... -
Or, 4. The players were too sand-blasted from lack of sleep studying for their "four finals" such as they mentioned shields is. From experience they tend to really pile it on in december and frankly I feel teams need to be experienced and solid to get through the month unscathed. Right now a guy I live with as well as multiple friends and my little brother are going out of their minds with college work and finals, papers etc. Idk how much they'd put on the athletes and its no excuse for poor play, but it's certainly something to keep in mind.

the crowd is SO quite. Gus: "this team is really well prepared". I can also see why the nova fans were upset they had to play in the small gym tonight...getting them early is ideal as well. -

Inspiration, Maryland and beyond
HolyBobpilgrimage replied to HolyBobpilgrimage's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Ok, so what's the problem? Is tim'so system not working, or like you said, was the pressure just too much? I don't want to put the guys down either and I'm sure it's not easy as I'm a student as well about to graduate. So of course I understand what they go thru day in and out to work hard. I just mean that in game it seems they give up or don't work together through hardship effectively...though in several games this year I've been very impressed with their effort; take for example the two Maryland games. Another thing that may have effected us besides the expectations was the charge rule change. The refereeing was sub par this year as we all know, though most of that may have been due to the rule changes themselves...we just don't get to the line as much as last year's, which gave us a lot of close wins, and I'm still not sure if that is a style of play problem, adjustment problem or simply the way it's being called now. Sorry if it seemed like I was disparaging the guys; but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely disappointed in how they worked this season.
