  1. Fred made comment about players not having great nights doing a good job of supporting the team on the floor ... felt like that was a comment about Keisei. This continues to be a situation to watch and monitor. I think there's a bit of dissension around these issues from time to time. Good job tonight cheering on your team Keisei.
  2. So many memories brought back ... the ol' Marathon Oil exhibition! :) I wonder if they'll let Danny talk a bit on the microphone. Could be interesting ... I have to say he did really good things here for the most part, but sometimes I wonder just how he did it because internally ... yikes!
  3. Our lack of athleticism position by position is showing. No PG, no backup PG. Brice Williams ends up having to facilitate things and that's not where he thrives. Our rebounding has STRUGGLED of late even with Gary, but without him we almost have to play even smaller because Allick brings no offense in general and that compounds the rebounding issue. Too early to bail on the season but this feels like a real emotional breaking point giving up another 10+ point lead in the second half AND losing Gary.
  4. I felt like he rushed back but didn't show a lot of signs that he did at first ... a bit of fatigue has set in it seems too.
  5. Even if he's back he likely will take a while to get back in game shape and full speed.
  6. Watching our body language coming out of halftime, I was not optimistic ... solid win. This was worse than a typical trap game in terms of opponent etc imho. Glad we pulled it out.
  7. They sure will ... and they'll still be bringing in a similar amount of media rights money whether they win or not.
  8. Unfortunately there is little incentive to make basketball priority ... yet again. NIL money isn't always some giveaway, it's often an investment business-wise. I don't think the business brokers want to divert much money away from football.
  9. A Big Ten conference school has a lot more money to offer than a Big 12 school at this point.
  10. I didn't say NO ONE supports it, just not to the degree we need.
  11. It matters what local businesses and businesspeople want to support most of all. Basketball is NOT a priority for most of them.
  12. I don't know where you get yours, but I feel good about mine.
  13. Even if true, one example does not make it true in general.
  14. I'm not blaming it on NIL but it's certainly a big factor. Our guys are getting paid decently, but "well paid" is relative. We ARE NOT competing in NIL. It's a gigantic issue for this program. The main players who fund NIL don't have much of an interest in supporting Nebraska basketball.
  15. Hate to say it but that was a sickening second half. Two guys made field goals the whole second half? Our lack of athleticism showed a great deal. On court leadership lacking. The last rebound by Minnesota's free throw shooter was a good example of how we played in the second half.
  16. I think we are fortunate to have Fred as a head coach, but this is such a tough job. And going into the future we don't have the NIL support to compete it seems. Most of the local resources go to football and Creighton basketball. Yes this is a touch premature to talk about this but it has to be asked. If we REALLY look bad the rest of the year for the most part I think he'll have to make a change but I really don't think Trev wants to do so. Our lack of athleticism is getting exposed a bit and we don't quite seem united as a team. Keisei is a huge liability if he's not getting and hitting shots. Leadership on the floor is lacking a bit. I'm shocked how poorly we are rebounding in general of late. I was ready to call us a good rebounding team. It's really hard not to be concerned even though it's early. To answer the question ... no ... he won't be. He has to be getting a bit frustrated by the ability to not compete NIL wise.
  17. I came across this new Nebrasketball pod. Hadn't heard of it before. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about the season--most concerned about PG. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/scarlet-shootaround/id1711142089 Also, Nick Bahe just came out with his Nebraska hoops season preview as well. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/nick-bahe-podcast/id1475903567?i=1000633103708
  18. Can concur it was Ryan Anderson most of the time I went to practice. He had him run the stairs of the Devaney and then kinda forgot about it ... then when he remembered he put him right in the full court scrimmage and rode him about dogging it then.
  19. I'm feeling better and better about this pickup. I know we're all riding the disappointment of not getting Sallis etc but getting a PG with B1G experience at this point in the game is pretty darn decent.
  20. For a second I thought you were gonna say she actually did something, like went to the hospital to see her.
  21. I could care less if Wilcher plays another minute. We need a lot of help in the transfer portal. Keisei can't be relied on night in and night out and doesn't always fit the defensive first philosophy. Lawrence has impressed for as young as he is, but we do have a bunch of role players for the most part. A lot of what's not being spoken about is how does 1890 Initiative fit into the discussion. Last year we had no shot at Scheyerman mostly due to that aspect. Do businesspersons in Nebraska want to support hoops to a level necessary? Do they see it making sense? That will have a lot to say with any success we have in the portal.
  22. The metrics are moreso tied to compensation rather than being retained. I am thinking Trev believes Fred is a good representative of our University and he isn't in any hurry to make another huge hire if he doesn't have to. I do think we've shown progress in terms of competitiveness and I think he will be retained and I'd like to see him retained myself. As far as all the Tim Miles discussion ... we got hot over a very brief period of time. That team was GOD AWFUL in the early season. Yes, it all matters and it was a very fun run. The team fell on its face the next year. The cupboard wasn't exactly stocked when Miles left but one could argue that recruiting was hindered due to uncertainty of job security. I think there's a chance Fred will take a job in NBA management for a bit of a soft landing. I do think he's a good basketball mind and coach and he's shown willingness to adjust his system and philosophy, but it's fairly late in the game. We need some recruiting momentum ... but the uncertainty (just like Miles down the stretch) makes it not so easy to recruit to. I like our staff and think we have good teachers and culture currently. Will be interesting to watch play out.
  23. I think he's got a fairly long leash as far as not getting canned mid-season. This team isn't as good as the 2014 team that made the tourney but that team looked super awful early in the year so we'll be patient I'd imagine. I certainly don't expect this team will have that kind of turnaround but if they can show some growth and competitiveness he may get a bit more time. Or maybe Fred leaves himself ...
  24. Committed to Dordt recently. Needs a better shot to get more offers. Heady player and solid kid.
