Right now he’s basically trying out for any team who may be interested. Suns roster is pretty much set. He could still sign a two-way contract with them, but I’d say it’s just as likely that he’ll get picked up by another team. Lots of unsigned players play in the summer league for one team and end up at another team’s training camp.

Devil’s advocate... the Lakers frontline didn’t really “crush” anyone when they were the Pelicans frontline. They put up great numbers and are incredibly talented, but they both play soft at times and lack effort far too often. When AD gets bodied up by a physical defender, like Montrezl Harrell, he tends to back down. With two bigs on the court, Lebron has no room to bull his way to the basket, which he needs to be able to do in order for the rest of his game to be effective. The Lakers only above average perimeter defender now is Bradley, who is 6’2”. Who’s gonna guard PG and Kawhi? Lebron only plays defense in transition, when he sees an opportunity for a chase down block. An unpopular opinion, but I don’t like how this Laker team fits together. They’ll win a boat load of games, but a championship is the only goal. I don’t think they make the Western conference finals.

2022 PF Jasen Green -> Creighton

I was hoping we would offer this summer! Kid will be a stud. -
I don’t think so. But they traded that pick to Dallas prior to the selection. The trade just can’t be official until next week. So they picked Roby for Dallas.
-
They watched him at a pre-draft camp in Chicago. Mavs weren’t on the list of teams that he reportedly had workouts with.
-
As it stands right now, there might be one roster spot that a few guys would be fighting for. Things will change this summer though. The mavs have cap space and will look to build a roster through free agency to contend next year. If Porzingis is healthy, he and Doncic give you two guys with legitimate superstar potential. When those two figure each other out, it’ll be poetry in motion.

Cheatham and Stevenson were probably the 3rd or 4th best players on their teams as true freshman in the ACC and Big East. Burke and Kavas (his sophomore year) were the best players on their teams, although they were playing with/against lesser talent. And Green and Mack were the first two names Hoiberg mentioned when he was asked which players he was most excited about for this upcoming season. There aren't any 5 stars on this roster, but we have some guys with potential to become "stars". After Roby, who do you guys think is the most likely player (if any) on the roster to get drafted in the future? Washut was asked this question on a radio show yesterday. The 4 guys he talked about, in order, were: Mack, Green, Banton, Ouedraogo. In my opinion, Green and Banton are 1 and 2. The coaches love Mack. Abdelmassih was quoted in a recent OWH article saying, "he could be an NBA player."

2019 SG Matej Kavas (Grad Transfer) - LOI
millerhusker replied to jayschool's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Yeah Wragge had a wide base, set good screens and was a lethal pick and pop “big”. I could be wrong but I remember him essentially being their 5 man, with Doug at the 4. I could see their production and stats being similar though -

FWIW... Jalen Suggs, Ben Carlson, Dawson Garcia, Dain Dainja and Kendall Brown all follow this guy on Twitter. His son is a 2020 football recruit. -
Jervay, Walker and Cross are in Lincoln and have been participating in workouts all week. As of yesterday, Stevenson, Banton and Mack weren't in Lincoln yet. Update: You're correct @khoock, Banton is on campus

I’d be pretty shocked if KU actually offered, although they have missed out on a ton of recruits this cycle, which is rare for them. I thought Ed Chang, with similar measurables, was a better prospect. Chang barely saw the floor at San Diego State last year before putting his name in the portal.

If we read the same OWH article, it said Wur was 91/150 from INSIDE the 3-point arc. According to MaxPreps, he was 27% (23/86) from beyond the arc on the season.

Right, Boeheim can't comment on unsigned recruits. I just went searching for the article and couldn't find it. I believe he was asked a general question about kids jumping from high school to the NBA. Somewhere in his response he said something like, "There's a kid up here in New England that'll end up being one of the best recruits in the last decade." Whoever wrote the article assumed he was talking about Terrence Clarke. It's kind of like how Husker beat writers and reporters have said Chucky Hepburn has been #1 on Tim MIles' list the last couple years. In fact, Washut recently said on a podcast that Miles once told him, "If I ever get fired, make sure the next coach goes and gets Chucky." -

I read somewhere that Boeheim thinks Clarke will end up being the best high school prospect in 10+ years -

Hoiberg Offense helps Golden State in Game 2
millerhusker replied to big red22's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This play has been written about many times over the years. The basketball coaching world is a fascinating place where coaches at all levels aren't afraid to share plays, systems, philosophies, etc. with each other. It isn't uncommon to walk into a coaching clinic and see college and professional coaches there with pen and paper taking notes when a high school coach is giving a talk on his philosophies. John Calipari implemented the dribble drive motion at Memphis when the creator of the offense (Vance Walberg) was still a community college coach. Rick Torbett never coached past the high school level, but his read & react offense is used by men's and women's college coaches all over the country. When Fred gets invited to give talks at clinics, he's usually in lineups alongside some of the biggest names in basketball. I think he is as respected by his peers as anyone in the world on the offensive end of the court. If anyone is interested there are some great online resources out there where coaches shares notes from clinics they attend and film they watch. Some of my favorites are: https://nothingbutsets.weebly.com/clinics--notes.html https://pickandpop.net/category/clinicnotes/ https://www.fastmodelsports.com/library/basketball -
Now that the rosters are set...
millerhusker replied to millerhusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
And I’ll bet Hoiberg feels better about his first season here than he did at Iowa State. He flipped the roster there also and only had 6 or 7 scholarship players available that first year. 4 of their top 6 players had to redshirt after transferring, including Royce White. He still went .500 overall (and won at Iowa). -

Definitely have top half talent. Who knows how it will mesh. Jon Rothstein even mentioned our backcourt, saying it’s talented enough to compete with anyone. Admittedly, I have rose colored glasses every offseason. -
Thanks for the feedback. I have not seen him play in person. Just his Hudl film. I still don't believe he has a tight enough handle, but agree that he'll be better off the ball. There's nothing wrong with that. There are all-conference level guards/wings who don't have the ball "on a string", as they say.

2020 SG D'Andre Davis - Decommit
millerhusker replied to Dean Smith's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Yeah, I get this comparison. They do LOOK alike and have a similar build. I think Davis is a bit more of a fast-twitch muscle guy than JPJ. And his ability to shoot of the dribble makes them a bit different. Recruiting analysts have stated his mid-range game is one of the best on the AAU circuit this summer. Palmer had a very slow wind-up. Davis' release isn't quick right now by any means, but I think it'll tighten up in college. -
A preseason Big Ten rankings rough draft. Seems like conference depth might be down this year. I do this every year and am truly awful at it. 1. Michigan State: May be preseason #1 in the country. Winston might be preseason national POY. 2. Maryland: Jalen Smith (potential 2020 lottery pick) and Anthony Cowan return. Wiggins has NBA potential. Ayala and Morsell have shown a lot of promise on the wing. Four 4-star incoming frontcourt players. 3. Purdue: Obviously losing Edwards hurts. But they lose go-to players every year and are always picked too low in the preseason. Painter has enough pieces and finds a way to be a top 3 team in the league for the sixth year in a row. My B1G breakout player – Trevion Williams. 4. Ohio State: Wesson brothers return. CJ Walker (Florida State transfer) is eligible. Talented freshmen guards are a year older. DJ Carton might be the best incoming freshmen in the conference. 5. Penn State: Watkins and Stevens return. Stevens can take over games and will be one of the best players in the country. Dread and Bolton had impressive freshmen campaigns. Chambers has his best, and maybe last, chance at having a tournament team. 6. Illinois: Could be a sleeper team. Dosunmu will be on early 2020 lottery boards. A lot of young talent on this team. Underwood has built a similar looking team to the one he had in Stillwater, but this one has a post presence (Giorgi B.) 7. Michigan: If Matthews and/or Iggy and/or Poole would’ve returned, I’d have them a few spots higher, even with a new coach. Simpson, Teske and Livers have played in a ton of huge games and are good enough to make Juwan Howard’s first season respectable. 8. Nebraska: I have no idea. It wouldn’t shock me if we finished several spots higher or lower than this. I’m trying not to have any expectations. I’ll be optimistic as ever going into the season, though. 9. Indiana: Underachieved last year. Morgan and Langford are gone, but they still have talent and another stud freshman coming in. If Archie Miller puts another mediocre product on the court, fans will start getting impatient in Bloomington (if they haven't already). 10. Iowa: I might’ve had them as high as #3 if Bohannon wasn’t injured, Moss didn’t transfer and Cook pulled out of the draft. Wieskamp, Garza and McCaffery x 2 will still make them tough to guard. 11. Minnesota: Read an article on a Gopher site that predicted Minnesota will be a Sweet 16 team next year… They lose Coffey, Murphy, McBrayer and Washington. Oturu and Kalscheur will be a fantastic inside-outside duo for a few years. Eric Curry should be healthy. 12. Rutgers: I was feeling pretty good about Rutgers being an NIT team next year until Omoruyi decided to transfer. That kills them. They still have some decent talent. Geo Baker is no joke. 13. Wisconsin: Might have them too low, but on paper this team might be worse than the Badger team that went below .500 two years ago. 14. Northwestern: I feel bad for Chris Collins. They’re a mess right now.

2019 Transfer Dalano Banton-WKU - LOI

They both have fluid athleticism, great vision and a point guard's feel for the game at 6'7"-6'8". Still a good comparison, IMO. -

Interesting asterisk regarding Livingston. His 15-17 foot jumper has been money for years. I think Banton can develop into a good three point shooter. The mechanics are there. -

Really like the young Livingston comparison. Here's to hoping he works harder than MCW...
