Decent summer league debut for Banton. 5 pts, 4 reb, 3 blk, 2 stl Read through some Raptors message board posts. Their fans like him.

Most college athletes magically get shorter the day they leave college. Since NBA teams now have to post official heights, it’s hilarious to see just how tall some of these guys are. Louisville had Donovan Mitchell listed at 6’4”. He’s officially 6’1”.

He's been our biggest cheerleader in the national media since Hoiberg was hired. Love that guy.

Wisconsin will be much better off without those seniors and an assistant coach who was blatantly trying to get the head coach fired. To me it seems like Tucker was in the players’ ears, “If your head coach respected you he’d be hanging out with you off the court like I do” type of thing. I thought it was very strange that a bunch of kids were angry that they didn’t have more of a personal relationship with their head coach. When I was 18, off the court my coach was just a 60-something year old socially awkward dude. Every once in a great while we’d go to his house for a dinner, but we always dreaded it because there were a million other things we’d rather be doing at the time. On the court, we respected him and played hard for him. You think Jim Boeheim’s players want to hang out with that guy outside of practice? Just seems strange to me. Also, Wisconsin’s underclassmen are far more talented than the seniors who left IMO. Gard is still a damn good coach and they’ll be just fine.

In the 90’s we had 8 former players see time in the NBA. Venson Hamilton also got drafted in ‘99 but never made it to the league.

2023 PG Simeon Wilcher -> UNC->St John
millerhusker replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I don't mean to start a rumor, but this morning Robin Washut talked about how the 2022 recruiting class will shake out. Said the only 2022 recruits we're after now are Traudt and Green. Mentioned transfers (as always) and the possibility of a 2023 recruit reclassifying and becoming part of the 2022 class. That would be a strange thing to throw out there if he didn't know something was up. I had wondered if Simeon reclassifying was a possibility - CJ had Ivy League offers out of high school. I'm guessing Simeon's academics are in order. Not sure who else it would be? Yalden or Clemmons? I think Yalden is at his 3rd high school in 3 years now, so that would surprise me. Imagine the Husker hoops hype train next offseason if Simeon and Traudt were on board. Simeon would be the best Nebraska basketball recruit in history. I've said this before, but his sophomore film is better than any Husker recruit I've seen. He's college ready right now. -
2022 F Isaac Traudt - Virginia->Creighton

Washut thinks the only 2022 high school school recruits Hoiberg is focused on now are Traudt and Green. Go get 'em coach. -

Selected 46th by the Raptors!

The Auburn game will be an awesome litmus test for us. Their starting lineup will be impressive. G - Wendell Green. Stud point guard transfer. Was probably co-number 1 on our transfer board for pg along with Tyson Walker. G - KD Johnson. Averaged 13.5 ppg last year as a true freshman at Georgia. G - Allen Flanigan. 14 ppg, 6 rpg, 3 apg last year. Big bodied guard, efficient all-around player. Projected first round pick in next years NBA draft. F - Jabari Smith. 5-star, projected top 5 pick in next years NBA draft. This years Evan Mobley, but is also a three level scorer with NBA range. Absolute future star. C - Walker Kessler. 5-star in 2020 class. 7’1” 250 lbs. Was playing alongside two other 5-stars and an all-ACC center in the post last year at UNC. Showed flashes of NBA potential.

I like the optimism, but you might benefit from an exercise - pick a random Power 5 team and take a deep dive into their roster and preview their upcoming season. I think that would temper your expectations. Every team has talent and experience. Dozens of rosters are packed full of 4 star recruits. And almost every team has been far better than Nebraska the past two years. I’m as excited as anyone about this team, but I’d also be pretty thrilled with a .500 or better season.

Ed Chang is a 5-Star type player
millerhusker replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
He dominated high school basketball in Wisconsin, which is a talent-rich state. Teams would double and triple-team him. Had good size and NBA range in high school. -
The players have said CJ has been the best shooter on the team so far (other than Lakes, since he hasn’t been practicing). They have also commented on Keon and Wilhelm’s shooting ability. Webster was 38% and Trey was 37% from three last year - both very respectable. Lat was 35% and I think we’d all agree that should go up this year. Verge shot 33% last year, but it seems a lot of those attempts were in iso, off the dribble and heavily contested due to the system he played in. Tominaga and Lakes might actually be the best shooters on the roster, although playing time might be hard to come by for them. Having said all that, it is fair to be concerned about three point shooting if for no other reason than we are Nebrasketball.

My brother still brings up the time I told him Nick Fuller was the second coming of Eric Piatkowski. -
Playmaking, creating shots for others in the halfcourt offense is my concern. It seems we now have the shooters to space the floor and knock down shots. But we have to be able to create shots for those players. Hoiberg's teams at Iowa St. were at their best when they were averaging 16-18 assists per game, with a couple players averaging 3-6 assists. We lose Dalano and his 4 apg (despite what some Husker fans seem to think, Dalano was an excellent passer, and not just in transition). Trey was second on the team with 2.3 apg - he did have a handful of games with 4-5 assists after Dalano moved to the bench. Trey and Alonzo are not pure point guards, but they will have to fill the role of making plays for others. I don't think Bryce will be that player as a freshman. I can also see us playing out of the post more and taking advantage of Derrick and Wilhelm's vision and passing abilities. We know Hoiberg will find ways to put players in position to get good looks, but it's on the players to make the right reads and execute.

This season I expect our defense to be top 25-caliber. We were top 40 last year and replacing Thor and Teddy with Verge and Bryce could/should help. Love Thor, but he really struggled to stay in front of people on the perimeter. Teddy, most of the time, had little interest in playing defense. When Kobe King decided not to enroll at Nebraska, I was concerned about our perimeter defense against the more athletic guards in the Big Ten. Trey is really the only reliable perimeter defender we had and most teams have at least two quick, athletic guards on the court at all times. Verge is known for being a pesky defender - Trey calls him a "dog" on that end of the court. Lat has already commented on Bryce's defensive versatility. I love the thought of having two guards like Trey and Verge to harass opposing guards in the backcourt. I'm sure Doc does too. Doc did a pretty amazing job with the defense last year, considering what he had to work with. Derrick is an underrated defensive anchor in the middle. He reminds me of Draymond Green in how he quarterbacks the defense from the paint. He and an improved Eduardo should mean we'll always have a solid defensive presence down low, which will allow Trey, Verge and Bryce to take more gambles on the perimeter.

Robin Washut said the Hornets told Alonzo they would give him a two-way contract. Players get guarantees all the time after these pre-draft workouts. His shooting efficiency has been poor, but he’s still a good scorer and a very good free throw shooter. Guessing he’ll get better looks within our offense than he did at Arizona State, where it was often either Alonzo or Remy Martin in isolation.

2022 F Isaac Traudt - Virginia->Creighton
millerhusker replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
UNC, Virginia and Michigan State are "big dogs" as well and they've been heavily recruiting him for months. Also Wisconsin, Purdue, Ohio State, Oregon, etc.. Don't be surprised if Duke and Gonzaga offer this summer. A 247 analyst evaluated Traudt last week at a tournament and said he was a top 4 PF in the country, and possibly the best PF in the country. I think he'll end up a 5-star before it's all said and done. Having said all that, based on Traudt's comments, he seems to really value relationships with the coaching staff and Hoiberg has been recruiting him longer than anyone else. We know his family would like him to stay closer to home. He seems to have a strong relationship with Tony Bennett and Virginia's staff but, also based off his comments, the style of system he describes he wants to play in doesn't fit what Virginia does offensively. And... He was the first Husker recruit or player Nate Loenser followed on Twitter... Traudt followed Ramel Lloyd Jr. on Twitter... And Traudt and Jasen Green have talked about playing together in college. I believe Nebraska has a legitimate chance at getting Traudt. Cross your fingers and hope that Gonzaga doesn't offer soon. They've been recruiting him for awhile but haven't pulled the trigger yet. "If they offer in July, I will definitely take an official there." He fits right in with their recent lineage of versatile NBA caliber bigs. Timme, Holmgren, Zach Collins, Olynyk, Sabonis, Tillie. Timme and Holmgren will likely be gone after next season and they'll need another one. Traudt plans on committing in September/October, so we'll know pretty soon... -
2021 C Wilhelm Breidenbach - LOI
millerhusker replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
The most under-hyped newcomer of them all IMO. He’s going to be a special player here. Even if Traudt comes next year, it’ll be hard to keep either one of those guys off the floor. -
Smooth. Also like the finish with the left by Walker.
-
Nor will he recruit a shooting guard who shoots sub-30% from the high school arc and can't dribble with their left hand
-
2022 SF Ramel Lloyd Jr - LOI
millerhusker replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Of course this could change, but after this past season Walker told the media he wanted to play two more years at Nebraska. -
2022 SF Ramel Lloyd Jr - LOI
millerhusker replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
There aren’t any spots left right now. Some will definitely open up. A couple bench players will inevitably leave after the season in search of more playing time. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if Lat turns pro after this year. Trey and Bryce have already said they hope to go pro after this year. I think Westry would be top priority at guard now. And we wouldn’t turn down Traudt or Green. If all three of these guys wanted to be Huskers, I think we would make room if necessary. -

Awesome. Really like his game. Now let’s go get Traudt and Green.
