Solid first game for Dalano. In 12 minutes he had 7 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and no turnovers. Tonight was the first time since 2009 (I think - Lue and Moore) that Nebraska had two former players play in NBA games.

Hoiberg could lose every game this year and I would still think he’s one of the top 5 offensive minds in the world. He convinced me of that almost a decade ago. Of course, there’s a lot more that goes into winning college basketball games than just having a brilliant X’s and O’s mind.

What will our rotation look like next year?

FWIW, he wasn’t referring to Wilhelm replacing Walker in practice due to illness. He predicted that Wilhelm will end up being the starter at the 5, based off of conversations he’s had. Just sharing what Washut predicted. -

Yeah, doesn't really matter who starts the game. Putting Wilhelm in this starting lineup is probably just about fit and which players complement each other. Bryce and Lat were the only two that we would consider "shooters" in the starting 5 as it was. Although statistically Trey had a good year shooting the three ball last season, he and Verge probably do their best work off the dribble when they have shooters around them to space the floor. Wilhelm will help give them more room. We have plenty of shooters in our bench rotation - Keisei, CJ, Kobe, Keon, Trevor - so putting Derrick and his ability to pass out of the post with them makes sense. -

Washut is now projecting Wilhelm to replace Walker in the starting lineup. If he’s an upgrade over Walker already as a true freshman, that’s huge. Derrick was one of our most consistent players last year. -

He was a senior last year too. This is his extra year of eligibility. -
Two years ago Washington had two first round picks and another 5 star. They finished below .500 and dead last in the PAC-12.

I might get chastised for this on here, but I don’t think it’s obvious Eduardo will be part of the regular rotation. Only so many minutes to go around and Fred has made it clear he likes Wilhelm at the 5. I wouldn’t be surprised if Eduardo was a situational minutes player, like Okeke was when Roby and Copeland took up the majority of the minutes at the 4/5. If Eduardo is getting significant consistent playing time, I think that means he’ll be vastly improved from last year. Which would be awesome. -

Lat didn’t show us anything defensively in the post last year that a 6’5” smart defender couldn’t also do. -

I love it. Reminds me of Hoiberg's Iowa State teams. A lot of times they would go even smaller with Niang or Ejim at the "5". -

Best college basketball media guy out there. His podcast is great. Coaches around the country respect him, which isn’t normal. -
https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster Bryce shrunk an inch this week. Now 6'7".
-
Yeah, they came along well after NBAdraft.net and since they joined ESPN all their stuff is behind a paywall. I think both sites do a good job.
-
Yes. Once the season starts they will update the list about every week. Still pretty cool to have that notoriety. NBAdraft.net has, in my opinion, been the best mock draft site over the past 20+ years.
-
Unfortunately having a lottery pick doesn’t always correlate to team success.
-
Rich King was drafted 14th. Not sure if that was in the lottery back then. Pike was drafted 15th.
-
https://www.nbadraft.net/nba-mock-drafts/ Bryce starting off the year 13th in the 2022 mock draft.
-
https://huskers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster The “official” heights and weights were measured this week. Bryce listed at 6’8”! I thought he looked taller and longer than he did last year, but that was unexpected. Wilhelm - 6’10” 223 lbs. Eduardo listed at 6’11” now.

Clemmons isn’t ranked at all by 247, Rivals or ESPN. So I think he could be a little underrated. He looks like he’ll be a solid college point guard. “Stockrisers” is literally a teenager named Jake. Jake probably has him overrated at this point if he’s in the top 30.

This isn’t a bad thing, but I don’t think there’s a single team in the Big Ten that’s worried about playing us. Yet. -
SIAP, but Washut thinks the other Green is now a Colorado lean. Family ties to the CU coaching staff.

I remember being really excited about Ade because he had an offer from Penn State. Seriously. Same with Toney McCray and Sek Henry because they had some power 5 offers. We were so used to beating out the likes of Weber State and Old Dominion for recruits in the days of Collier and Doc. We still played some dang good ball in those years though, enjoyable to watch and were almost always competitive. Underappreciated coaches, IMO. Collier teams finished 6th, 7th (twice), 8th and 9th in the conference. Doc finished 7th (three times) and 8th. Some people will blindly claim the Big Ten has been a much better conference than the Big 12 was back then, but I'm not buying it. Those were the days of players like Durant, Aldridge, Beasley, Griffin, Hinrich, Collison, Gooden and tons of other All-Americans. Also coaches like Eddie Sutton, Roy Williams, Bill Self, Bobby Knight, Quinn Snyder, Larry Eustachy, Rick Barnes, Kelvin Sampson, etc. Fred's a great basketball mind and he now has the talent that we maybe haven't had since Danny Nee. You're right, time to coach 'em up.

I believe we were 2nd in the Big Ten in average star ranking in Miles' last year.
