Nebraska (20-8) vs. Ohio St. (16-12) Game Thread

I still don’t really want him to stop shooting, but at some point you have to quit wasting possessions. -

That’s a pretty spot on description. Just added one thing to it. -
Why did it work this year? What's different?
millerhusker replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Agree with everything said above. Also we’ve made 264 threes this year. Indiana has made 140. Wow. I believe we have an elite coaching staff who work well together and understand how to mask individual deficiencies and maximize strengths. Of course, if you don’t have players willing to be coached up and able to execute then none of that matters. -
2025 F A’mare Bynum -> Ohio St

I kind of assumed that would be the answer, simply because these were the exact same complaints about Hunter Sallis in high school… I’ll trust Fred. Sounds like he is the #1 priority in the 2025 class. Hopefully he doesn’t get that Duke offer. -

“It’s not who you play, it’s when you play ‘em.” When talking about how tough Ohio State will be. And I agree. But this is why our season has been so impressive. K-State was 8-2 coming off of wins against Providence, Nova and LSU when we went to manhattan. Handled them on their own court. Purdue was #1 and Wisconsin was playing like a final four team when we played them. When we played indiana the first time they were projected as a tourney team. Minnesota and Penn State were arguably playing as well as anyone in the league when we played them and beat them both by nearly 20 points. -

For folks who have seen him play, can you shed some light on why people who are involved in Nebraska high school hoops aren’t nearly as high on him as people nationally are? Just watching his highlights (which of course don’t tell the whole story) his skillset looks to me like he’s equal parts Derrick Walker and Rienk Mast. Seems to be a perfect fit for Hoiberg’s offense. -

Norm's Conference Recognition Watch List
millerhusker replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I don’t know how to make this make sense. But I would vote Keisei ahead of anyone else on the team for all-conference accolades. Yet, I would vote Mast our most VALUABLE player. And yet again, I would vote Gary our most IMPORTANT player. Pretty cool season of basketball we are experiencing. Over the course of the whole season, I’d say Brice has been our most improved player. Even though his numbers have dropped just a bit since non-con. His progression and role acceptance on both ends has been as vital to our current success as anything else. -

Bruce Thornton. Wont ever happen but Trey Kaufman-Renn would be Allick++ here. -
I'd take anyone but Houston in the second round. Worst possible matchup for us imo.

Why does Lunardi's bracket update more infrequently than the rest? Isn't that his only job?

Minnestoa (17-9) vs. Nebraska (19-8) Game Thread
millerhusker replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
In conference play we're shooting 39% from three and 79% from the free throw line. On the season we've made 33 more threes than anyone else in the conference. And we have the best FG% defense in the conference. Some impressive stats. -

There's probably still something there. There certainly was earlier in the season, but you can't see it as much through the television so I haven't noticed it these past handful of games. And winning helps everyone's attitude become more positive. This is on Brice to just get over it imo. We need Keisei to do what he does. As an opposing coach, trying to get your guys to sprint and chase Keisei around screens consistently over the course of a game scares you just as much as Zach Edey does. CJ plays similarly but I've never seen Brice scoff at him. Just get over it, man. Keisei is an unselfish kid who wants to win. He's genuinely happy whenever someone else makes a play. And he's the one guy on the team who consistently is willing to give up his body and attempt to take charge when an opposing player is barreling down the lane. Anyway, on a positive note we have a really, really good basketball team right now. We are finally looking like Hoiberg's Iowa State teams when they were as fun to watch as anyone in the country. Fred finally has the players who are willing to run and execute his stuff, and the counters to that stuff, and the counters to those counters. And it's beautiful to watch. We can beat you a number of different ways offensively. We have four guys averaging 12+ ppg, and two more guys off the bench who can get hot and go for 20. And the other two guys in the rotation are hometown kids who will pour their blood, sweat and tears into every possession. And if nothing is going right offensively, we can now beat you in a dogfight with our team defense. No coach will be excited about playing Nebraska in March. -
KenPom 2023-2024 KenPom Rankings Thread
millerhusker replied to 49r's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
SOR is now #27, which would put us as a 7 seed. Michigan State is #46 and SOR seeding has them as the first team out. Seems more accurate than what the bracketologists have. -

Up to #29 in Torvik's rankings. Interested to see what our strength of record is tomorrow. Should be in the 20s. -

According to Kempom, there are only 14 teams in the country with both a top 40 offense and a top 40 defense and we are one of them. -

That Fox guy is just out of control. Does not look like a Division I basketball player. -

We haven't turned the ball over since 8:44 in the first half. And we're outrebounding them by a lot. That's winning basketball. -

Our defense is so freaking good right now. And Brice is LOCKED IN on that end. Glad to see it. -

Yes. We need to start making those barely contested layups. -
I have to push back on this part. There are a few great point guards out there, but just a few. Point guard play is pretty poor throughout college basketball imo. The Big Ten has 3 of the top 7 or 8 point guards in the country in Braden Smith, Boo Buie and Jahmir Young. Dug McDaniel will be an NBA point guard. Tony Perkins, Ace Baldwin, AJ Hoggard and Elijah Hawkins are really solid. Bruce Thornton usually looks like the best player on the court regardless of who they’re playing.

2024 G Nick Janowski is N
millerhusker replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
In response to the Wisconsin school classification convo. Pewaukee is in Division 2 (and ranked #2 behind Knueppel’s team). But they actually have played 3 of the top 6 ranked schools in Division 1 (largest classification). They lost to the #1 team, and beat the #3 and #6 ranked teams. Nick scored 30, 34 and 45 in those games, respectively. Regular season is now over. 31.7 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 4.1 apg, 2.0 spg. Led team in every statistical category. -

The only time I’ve seen Florida this year was their game against Michigan. And they looked, well, about as good as Michigan. They’re apparently playing very well now though.
