  1. Ahh, but for rebounding and free throws, we coulda, shoulda, but didn't win. Also sort of sad to see the body language of Coach Miles and then listening to the post game interview.
  2. Yup. I mentioned this before, I have moved from mad to sad. Sort of hard to figure, but then again it's not.
  3. My son and I did the same thing and we both caught Miles frustration at the same time...
  4. Yeah, I think she is good.
  5. Just a thought...when I was in college, I broke up with my long-time girl friend. Crap happens. I guess I still worry that the zero chance scenario has some variables.
  6. I am unsure if this is micro-managing. I do believe there are certain critical hires in all departments where the president of the business and/or system could/should be involved. Certainly at Nebraska, there are Deans that likely are not hired without the involvement of Hank Bounds. If I recall correctly, the athletic department is self-funded. All sports are part of a budget that exists because of funding driven exclusively from donations and monies earned through media rights, ticket sales, et, al. No legislative funding is provided. It is also my understanding that UNL fields nine men's and thirteen women's teams. Twenty-two in total. Of those twenty-two teams, I believe only three of them operate in the black (football, basketball and volleyball). Please correct me if I am incorrect. If this is correct, or even if I am a little off, wouldn't it seem reasonable, that the President of the University system, be involved in the hiring/retaining of the head coach in one of the three major programs that support the other nineteen? I guess that is my logic when I opine that I am not alarmed/surprised that Hank Bounds and/or Ronnie Green is involved in the hiring/retaining process of a coach in one of the three aforementioned programs. Now, the extent they are involved is yet another question.
  7. I have been attempting to remember the native Nebraskans who have played in the NBA. I could remember about five, so I looked it up...I assume this is accurate: Wally Anderzunas - Creighton Prep/Cincinnati Royals Ron Boone - Omaha Tech/Various Bob Boozer - Omaha Tech/Various Dave Hoppen - Omaha Benson/Various Lee Johnson - Omaha South/Houston Rockets Rich King - Omaha Burke/Seattle Super Sonics Bart Kofoed - Omaha Westside/Various Tom Kropp - Aurora/Washington Bullets Mike McGee - Omaha North/ LA Lakers Justin Patton - Omaha North/played one game for Minnesota Timberwolves Alex Stivrens - Lincoln East/Seattle Super Sonics Erick Strickland - Bellevue West/Dallas Mavericks Cedric Hunter - Omaha South/Charlotte Hornets A number of players (such as Chuck Jura, Ron Kellogg, Steve Bartek and Bus Whitehead) were drafted but did not play in the NBA. Another group of players were born, but not raised in Nebraska that played in the NBA included: Fred Hoiberg, Mike Higgins, Rex Walters, Mark Pope, Kenny Sailors and Chuck Gardner. Just a handful of these players played at UNL.
  8. The great news is that we are competing against, arguably, the best team in college baseball. Failing with certain fundamentals early, can be corrected. So I am not too worried...
  9. I am not convinced that he shouldn't be retained. I understand the responsibilities and accountability that a head coach has. I also understand and agree the program isn't where it is expected to be. I also understand that there have been holes and issues with the retention of front court players. But I believe that recent issues have been compounded by the lack of administrative support and the moving puzzle pieces that exist. If Coach Miles is jettisoned, I will understand it and support the next coach. But I would be fine with a retention decision. The likelihood of that is remote to say the least.
  10. This article provides a good explanation... https://www.huffingtonpost.co.za/2018/01/15/comparing-black-people-to-monkeys-has-a-long-dark-simian-history_a_23333383/
  11. If he used the wrong word he certainly could. The comparison that Dolphin leveraged could very well be considered offensive. I believe Howard Cosell (for those that remember him) called a wide receiver a name that was similar in nature. That was sort of the beginning of the end for Howard. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1983/09/06/cosells-remark-raises-ire/ba8e68ae-6aae-4c07-8fdb-388df66de8a7/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.94949e91b116
  12. So, you are saying there isn't a number of fans who would want Coach Miles retained? I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
  13. The dude has had a tough year. Any predictions as to his return next year?
  14. Yeah, there are. I have visited with a number of Husker fans who believe Coach Miles is a good fit, but has had bad luck. They are also afraid of starting over and not knowing what is around the corner. You always will hear from the vocal group, but remember there is a silent group out there as well. There is a saying akin to the vocal minority versus the silent majority. I am not going to assume that is the case here, but everybody should not assume there isn't some validity to the statement.
  15. Welcome to the site. Steve is from a little berg in Iowa. I think his home town is Lone Tree and I believe he is the same age as Coach Miles. Not sure he is a perfect fit, but then again, I am not sure who is a perfect fit.
  16. I don't really know. There is certainly a large group of fans that would support the move. But there is certainly another group that would provide strong resistance. What can be done to "unify" the fan base? Husker fans want a winner...plain and simple. There are a number of experts and wannabe experts on this and many other boards. I know of a few posters that have good inside sources. Those sources may be student managers, or big dollar boosters or work within the athletic department or basketball department. Others hear from a friend of a friend, et al. The thing is, very few of us know fact from rumor. Fact or fiction. Fact or perception. What truly is taking place inside the athletic department offices. Between major boosters and the administration office. Between the players and coaches in the locker room. Are takes/comments on this, and other threads, anything more than the authors internal prejudices? In late spring or early last summer I heard from a very good "source" who told me we were in the running for a very good European big man. Either that fell through, or it was an unfounded rumor. I don't know. I have heard through the grapevine that Coach Miles had a very clear edict as to what was needed this year in order for him to get a new contract. Was that rumor true? If factual, did that directive put so much pressure on the staff and team that it caused an implosion? Bottom line, this thread and many others brings out a lot of rhetoric and natural (and sometimes unnatural) excitement and speculation. There are a few people who definitively knows what is going on...but I do not think they are members, and if they are members, they do not seem to be talking.
  17. I'm thinking and hoping the same thing. I do believe they were embarrassed by their PSU showing and will come out with some fight. And we will have our butts in our seats as well; snow or shine.
  18. As important as the head coach salary, there are other equally important factors. Some of them are assistant coach salary pool, recruiting budget, hierarchy support, apparel discretion and perks, contract perks, livability of the city (remember both Bo and Billy C complained about their lack of privacy) and so forth.
  19. This may be a strange sort of game. The weather will likely keep a portion of the crowd away. Students hit the apathy button a game or three ago, and will likely be no shows (other than the real diehards). It will be even more interesting to see if the team shows up. I certainly hope so.
  20. I think you hit the nail on the head Matt. This kinda/sorta reminds me of the final year of Moe Iba. Iba took a lot of heat for various reasons, one legit, the others likely due to style points. But in his final year, he had a very good and talented team, and then the star of the show, Dave Hoppen went down with a knee injury. Devastating. Many thought the season was over and the heat on Iba was palpable. We ended up going to the NCAA tournament...and Moe walked away once the season was over. The Danny Nee era then began. The following is a good read, and one of may excellent Husker Hoop Central interviews by Dave: HHC: The immediate success you had at Nebraska was quite amazing, and we have to get your opinion on the whole “football school” label that Nebraska has had on its forehead for decades. Does that make it more difficult for basketball to succeed, and was it that way when you were in Lincoln? MI: Well, I’ve always said that the best time of my life was when I was at Nebraska, and I’ve always said this about Nebraska. Because of the fans and facilities, and because of it just being the University of Nebraska - If you can’t win in basketball at the University of Nebraska, you can’t coach.
  21. https://www.hudl.com/profile/10498803/Josiah-Allick This is an interesting kid. He has exceptional lineage that includes a mother that played college volleyball and two sisters who play at a high level. In fact his little sister committed here prior to HS I believe. As a HS freshman, he was 5'10" and really is a late bloomer. He is currently 6'7" and projects out at 6'9". He is currently a mid-major type of recruit who is now thinking of reclassifying and going the prep school route for a year. I have watched him play a couple times this year and color me impressed. He did not have a great game against Creighton Prep due to foul trouble, but you can see the intangibles that could make him a viable big man. Likely projects as a PF but could play the post or perhaps even a stretch 3. I have no clue if we are looking at him. Good article in the LJS today about him as well. With the chaos that is Husker basketball, I would hate to lose out on someone close to home and who seems to have ties to Husker athletics. https://journalstar.com/sports/high-school/basketball/boys/allick-bringing-back-memories-of-former-lincoln-basketball-prep-star/article_bce6ae66-0f71-5780-b5e8-e8809ce286be.html
  22. Goodness, Phoenicians are likely running around in winter coats and wondering if the Apocalypse has commenced.
