  1. I recently read some sort of evaluation of the husker football team from a rival big ten coach. He said they may be the best looking football team in the division getting off the bus...but just wait, they will self-destruct and fall apart on their own; or something akin to that. The goopher coach said our team lacked character; or again something like that. That was simply never the case from about 1967 through about 2007. The point that I am poorly meandering towards is that a "team" doesn't necessarily have to look the part as long as they can play the part. I am more than ready for all of our major teams to play the part!
  2. I guess I must be a tad out of touch. I do believe the edict was for Fred to be more a CEO as well. He has been heavily involved on offense. He has a reputation as a shooting expert and often talks about his offense being adaptable. He now has three assistants that are supposedly good at player development. One who is a defensive wiz and has divided up recruiting to all. I sort of think that the major "change" likely involves holding everyone accountable and having clear lines of responsibility for coaches and players.
  3. Agree. There were several takes about that subject in a different thread about a week ago. (Year 4 thread)
  4. In Japan trying out for their national team.
  5. Blowing it up is interesting. I believe I identified the players correctly. It is sort of interesting when you compare the apparent height difference between Oleg and Wilhelm, who are standing side by side along with our other bigs who are further down the line... Oh and a couple of the comments made me smile as well.
  6. A week or more ago NPM had a program (I believe it was Nebraska Stories) that was dedicated to the early years of state of Nebraska sports. It was well done and interesting.
  7. Keith Nuebert...and now he's had his own television show. But he played basketball and football and then went on and played NFL football. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Neubert
  8. Heard his favorite college player is Teddy Allen...
  9. I sort of noticed his passive dig at last year's team...yeah they sort of underachieved last year. https://huskerextra.com/news/basketball/mens-basketball/former-husker-shamiel-stevenson-is-chasing-his-basketball-dreams-around-the-globe/article_8980d9b0-062b-5f4e-ae98-155b7916a6d9.html?utm_source=huskerextra.com&utm_campaign=%2Fnewsletter-templates%2Flocal%2Fheadlines&utm_medium=PostUp&utm_content=d09b424543be8222e4a241a7937d248958c11014
  10. Yes. Cooks kids went there as did Callahan's and Bo's...and I am sure I am missing many more.
  11. Ummm...for me, death by bunga- bunga may lead to a less painful death.
  12. Okay, I agree with your comments...but. Fred did okay with Bryce. He did okay with Banton. Arguably, we can say he did okay showcasing the talent of Verge and Trey. But did he do okay with the team? Did he promote individualism over team? This not aimed at your excellent observation. Instead, it is more so a good view of why "the team" sunk to the current level, despite having high level individual talent. The blue bloods can have that high level talent, but their team concept is priority over individual accomplishments...or so it seems.
  13. When one of my kids was being recruited (one sport, not two) I recall a coach providing the following: When you are a scholarship athlete you have three things available--your athletic dream, your academic dreams and requirements and your social life. He went on to say most kids can only be successful in two of those three areas. In this case, Maggie will be attempting to master and meet or exceed expectations in two major sports. Coaches will coachspeak to the media; but both Williams and Cook have their teams and team chemistry that is their highest priority. Conflicts are sure to occur. I am in no way saying she cannot or will not succeed. But it will be difficult. By the way, Coach Williams likely sees this conundrum daily within her own household, given her daughter is pretty darn special in at least three high school sports...
  14. Is she on a volleyball or basketball scholarship? I wonder if be able to maintain her game given the rigours of the college game versus high school? Especially in a power five conference. I wonder if she will remain "happy" if Amy plays her in a more limited role in order to conserve her skills and stamina?
  15. Good lord. I read those reports and my heart and psyche sinks more than a little.

  17. Very cool glow in the dark court. Coach Miles has got to love it! https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2022/06/10/san-jose-state-basketball-court-glows-in-the-dark?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=news_tab
  18. This sort of surprises me. It is certainly not negative as the level of talent he will play with and against will be significantly better, but simply didn't give off that vibe...whatever that means.
  19. Nicely done Jack! https://huskers.com/news/2022/6/9/mens-basketball-mcveigh-named-to-australia-iba-world-cup-qualifying-team.aspx
  20. Man we have a lot to choose from, so although I cannot disagree with his choice of Palmer, it is ripe for argument. One could make a case for Petteway, Ramos, Farmer, Verge, Jackman, Copeland, Drevo, White just to name a few.
  21. When looking at his Twitter feed I noticed that he sort of endorsed a certain Omaha doctor. I wonder if we will soon "see" a glass-less Wilhelm???
  22. Another "this should make you feel more positive" article. https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/fred-hoiberg-and-nebraska-are-laying-the-foundation-as-summer-workouts-begin-thursday/article_8ccfcc04-e72f-11ec-a8ce-73e5e9551cff.html
  23. I am surprised by the moves of both Cam and Koty. This past year was unacceptable and the price to play here is steep. But I go back to what I was told by a scout many moons ago, looking for talent south of the Mason-Dixon line is soo much easier and cost effective. If you want to be seen, the south is the place to be.
  24. Oh heavens, I do not disagree. But nonetheless, the ability to build camaraderie with your college teammates is compromised by absence. I simply believe his ability to earn playing time is hurt by his summertime absence. Perhaps his post-season conversations with the staff indicated his absence would not change his status for next year. That may be good or bad for him...I guess. Hmm.
