43 days (dated May 16) since the Creighton message board's "I hate UNL" thread has had a legitimate post hating on us. The 140 page, 1,390 replied thread has been dead silent since early April, for whatever reason. Can't think of one. Carry on.

No doubt that Tim brought in some very good players. I actually think his biggest strength was getting better players to come here than previous coaches did. But yes like you said, in just 1 month Hoiberg has brought in players as good or better than Miles was doing with 5-6 years of recruiting and establishing relationships. That was my point. We just signed Ohio's Mr. Basketball on the last day of the high school signing period with like three weeks of communication with the kid. It's incredible.
-
Actually if you want to compare Tim's first class from when he was hired in March to Hoiberg's, his first class was actually Sergej Vucetic (bust), Deverll Biggs (bust), Walter Pitchford (solid contributor) and Terran Petteway (sat out his first year before becoming a real player, but no one expected what we got out of him when we signed him).
-
Maybe because Miles, after 6 years, would bring in players like Thor and Amir Harris this time of year, while Hoiberg and Abdelmassih, with 1 month to work, have brought in: A guy who was a 4 star on ESPN and previously committed to Xavier and Cincinnati A guy who was just a backup PF to Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield on a team that was a Top 10 team all last year A 17 year old French kid whom NBA insiders are tweeting about

Now THIS is a poll with fantastic options. No wrong answer here ?
-
You’re right, and the dude has an NBA body at 17 and his ceiling is sky high. At the very least he will play a lot.
-
Samari Curtis will play, in my opinion. We have 11 eligible scholarship players and it wouldn't surprise me if any of the 11 were regulars in the rotation. There will be some stiff competition for playing time. I don't necessarily think they will rush into starting Ouedroago (dude was just recently 16 years old) or Cross just because. I think they'll go small ball with Stevenson as a big bodied guy who can handle business down low for a bit. 1 Cam Mack 2 Jervay Green 3 Haanif Cheatham 4 Shamiel Stevenson 5 Matej Kavas --- Dachon Burke Yvan Ouedraogo Samari Curtis Kevin Cross Thor Thorbjarnarson Akol Arop Charlie Easley Jace Piatkowski Sit Out: Derrick Walker, Delano Banton

That's it guys! We are done. We made it. We are at 14 right now. We'll be dropping either Roby or Thor and we'll be at 13. Amazing. Take a deep breath.
-
Yeah, they're all doubtful honestly.
-
14 scholarships are filled right now, but when Roby officially turns pro (which he will) we'll be at 13. We have 10 eligible scholarship players, 2 eligible walk-ons, 1 scholarship player who will sit out the until January (unless he gets a waiver) and 2 who will sit out the whole year. The staff executed the plan exactly as they wanted to. Scholarship Dudes 99.99% Certain: Dachon Burke, Guard, 6-4, Jr. (Eligible) Jervay Green, Guard, 6-3, Jr. (Eligible) Akol Arop, Forward, 6-6, Fr. (Eligible) Haanif Cheatham, Guard, 6-5, Sr. (Eligible) Matej Kavas, Forward, 6-8, Sr. (Eligible) Cam Mack, Guard, 6-2, So. (Eligible) Yvan Ouedraogo, Forward, 6-8, Fr. (Eligible) Kevin Cross, Forward, 6-8, Fr. (Eligible) Thorir Thorbjarnarson, Guard, 6-6, Jr. (Eligible) Samari Curtis, Guard, 6-4, Fr. (Eligible) Shamiel Stevenson, Forward, 6-6, So. (1/2 sit-out transfer) Dalano Banton, Guard, 6-8, So. (sit-out transfer) Derrick Walker, Forward, 6-8, Jr. (sit-out transfer) Walk-ons: Jace Piatkowski Charlie Easley
-
So you're saying Marquette told a potential transfer what they wanted to hear whether it's true or not? Ya don't say
-
His recruiting profile says it came down to Tennessee vs. St. John's. Abdelmassih wanted him there, so I'm guessing he sees something in him.
-
Fred is the same distance in each picture, hence the white line matching up the top of his head and bottom of his chin. Now Cross might be a bit closer to the camera than Walker. But he definitely has a bigger head/longer face.
-
Busted out my photo editing skillz again to play "How Tall is Kevin Cross?" Derrick Walker is 6-8. I've seen enough to believe that Kevin Cross is at least 6-7 1/2 and very close to 6-8. Interesting though how his chin and mouth are far lower than Walker's.
-
Yeah we have a 33% chance at Ntambwe by my math. Not a pipe dream. Blackshear, that's a pipe dream.
-
Fair enough. I just think for any Nebraska basketball coaching staff to ever have the Nos. 1 and 2 JUCO players in the country coming in, that's a pretty big step up for our program and deserves a B+ at least. I would love to have Ntambwe too and I have secretly had this hope that he has been silently planning on coming here all along as long as Roby stays in the draft. His deal has been extremely quiet.
-
I would agree he is most likely to. But if Stevenson doesn't get a waiver and we end up with only 9 eligible scholarship guys for the first semester, he may have to play. I guess it depends on if the staff thinks he will have a future here in 5 years or if they want to get the clock rolling .
-
A couple thoughts... They've offered pretty much every graduate transfer in Division I. Short of harassing them, I'm not sure what else you can do to get a kid to visit. Ntambwe is a transformational player and he visited the first week they were here. We tried for Blackshear. We were linked to Figueroa. Who else should we be shooting for that we aren't? Also, for what it's worth, I think Cam Mack IS a transformational player and will be incredible. Although they didn't recruit Jervay Green, they kept him on board, which is also huge. We are talking about the No. 1 and No. 2 JUCO players in the country coming here to be Day 1 starters. We added a 6-8 guy who is one of the best 3-point shooters in Division I. On the Rivals Top 150 list, there are 6 guys who are "Undecided" and 4 of those are ranked in the Top 20 and have been developing relationships for a long time. It's April/May before these kids go to college in a couple months, our coaches can't just be expected to flip a bunch of kids' college plans at the last minute. You have to remember they are still recruiting kids to a program that has been dog poop and as recently as a couple months ago was hot dog poop in a dumpster fire (if that's a thing). I expect when they prove they can win with the 3/4 start players they're bringing in they'll quickly start attracting 4/5 stars players.
-
Both players have some questions, otherwise they probably wouldn't still be searching for a school this late in the game. I think the biggest thing here is in the past we would bring these guys in who had potential and do nothing with them. I think we have a staff now that will actually get these guys into shape and teach them how to be better at basketball. Yvan needs to develop something other than a hook shot and work on his explosiveness and playing above the rim. Those slow low post moves won't work against the Big Ten big men. But he's 17 and he's huge. You can work with that. Kevin needs some weight room strength and conditioning work, but if he's willing to work he'll be good to go. He has plenty of tools to work with, he can shoot, he can dribble, he's 6-7 or 6-8, and he's got a frame that could put on a ton of muscle. Both guys have tons of potential, in my opinion, and I don't think the staff signed them thinking that they will be major contributors this year on an NCAA Tournament team. Unfortunately we may need one or both to play right away when a redshirt would benefit both, but I am guessing nobody redshirts this year because the staff won't be interested in saving anybody for 5 years from now when they probably plan to have consistent 4-5 star players by that point.

John Beilein to coach the Cleveland Cavilers
GoBigRed replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
That would be fantastic...for us. From one of the top 10 college coaches in the nation to a guy with a career .521 win percentage as a mid-major coach who had one miraculous tournament run that could have been a 1st round loss if not for a buzzer beater 3. -
Who would have ever thought recruits would be saying about Nebrasketball: "I want to go there because their coaching staff can help me get to the next level/NBA."
-
Anyone who voted B or lower, I want you to show yourself and tell me why. That is ridiculous. You either are delusional with ridiculous expectations, or you are a Creighton fan on here just trying to mess up the positive mojo.

11 guys on scholarship now (assuming Roby is gone). Light is at the end of the tunnel. I would say 10 scholarship guys are 100% for sure locked in. Still not 100% sold on Thor. Walk-ons: Jace Piatkowski Charlie Easley Scholarship Dudes 99.99% Certain: Dachon Burke, Guard, 6-4, Jr. Jervay Green, Guard, 6-3, Jr. Akol Arop, Forward, 6-6, Fr. Dalano Banton, Guard, 6-8, So. (sit-out transfer) Kevin Cross, Forward, 6-8, Fr. (HS) Thorir Thorbjarnarson, Guard, 6-6, Jr. Derrick Walker, Forward, 6-8, Jr. Possibilities: Kerry Blackshear, Forward, 6-8, Sr. (Virginia Tech grad transfer) Jahvon Quinerly, Guard, 6-0, So. (Villanova sit-out transfer) Teyvion Kirk, Guard, 6-1, Jr. (Ohio sit-out transfer) Maurice Calloo, Forward, 6-9, So. (Oklahoma State sit-out 1/2 transfer) Joel Ntambwe, Forward, 6-9, So. (UNLV sit-out transfer *pending waiver) Doubtful: Isaiah Roby, Forward, 6-8, Sr.

I have no idea how this stuff works, but what if it works like this...what if the coaches have a Big Board (ala Mel Kiper) where they have ranked players in priority of who they want for 2019 (makes sense, right?) Just for fun (assuming Roby is gone), let's say their board has the following players ranked ahead of Thor, Amir, Karrington, Brady: Jervay Green, Guard, 6-3, Jr. Cameron Mack, Guard, 6-2, So. Dachon Burke, Guard, 6-4, Jr. Haanif Cheatham, Guard, 6-5, Sr. Matej Kavas, Forward, 6-8, Sr. Dalano Banton, Guard, 6-8, So. (sit-out transfer) Akol Arop, Forward, 6-6, Fr. Kerry Blackshear, Forward, 6-8, Sr. (Virginia Tech grad transfer) LJ Figueroa, Guard, 6-6, Sr. (St. John's sit-out transfer) Joel Ntambwe, Forward, 6-9, So. (UNLV sit-out transfer *pending waiver) Shamiel Stevenson, Forward, 6-6 (Nevada transfer, 1/2 sit-out transfer) Maurice Calloo, Forward, 6-9, So. (Oklahoma State sit-out 1/2 transfer) Jahvon Quinerly, Guard, 6-0, So. (Villanova sit-out transfer) Yvan Ouedraogo, Forward, 6-8, Fr. (HS) Kevin Cross, Forward, 6-8, Fr. (HS) Kendall Lewis, Forward, 6-6, Fr. (HS) Thor Amir Karrington Brady Now, is there any reason to believe that if 6 of those guys ahead of Thor wanted to commit here, that they wouldn't take them to fill out their 13? Heck no. This is why I don't think you can say for sure that Thor will be on the team next year, even though that's what HE said. You telling me that if we get to 12 scholarships filled and Kerry Blackshear wants to come here that we say "sorry, that 13th scholarship is for Thor"? No way. So this is why Amir and Karrington reportedly got called over the weekend, after their meetings, because maybe we found out we gained some new commits who haven't been announced yet?
