I had this same exact thought yesterday. She really did win the lottery many times over compared to your average human in history. It's hard to beat: -Born in the modern era (access to indoor plumbing, quick travel via cars and airplanes, modern medicine, etc) -Born in a wealthy, developed nation -Married SEVENTY-FOUR years to a loving and supportive spouse. Read that again. Seventy-four year marriage. -Had four children, maintained a strong relationship with each of them into adulthood, and all of her children are still alive and healthy. -Prior to her death, QEII's worst health issue was a knee surgery. So not only did she live 96 years, she lived 96 years of absolutely amazing health. Taking the whole born-into-royalty thing out of the equation, she still lived one of the absolute best lives possible. Literally in the top 0.01% of human lives ever. And then when you add in the royal component it is just ludicrous. And then when you consider that she lived as a royal AFTER all the real responsibilities (and stress) have been given to Parliament, PM, etc... How do you top that life? I don't think you can even find 2 or 3 people who lived a more charmed life. She literally just lived the GOAT life in all of human existence. Cannot be topped.

Not sad at all about this decommit. Rather than take the time to explain why, I'll just copy/paste my analysis which I had originally posted in his recruiting thread. Chase's footage looks, to my eyes, like a kid that wants to make the highlight play to pump up the crowd rather than the safe play to get an easy bucket. I see that both in how he passes the ball (e.g. underhanded scoop passes on alley-oops) and shoots (e.g. exaggerated step back 3pt attempts). Obviously this footage is "highlight reel" stuff, so the passes connect and the shots go in. But they still look ill-advised, particularly from a floor general traditional PG (which I believe is what we are recruiting him to be). I'm sure I'd feel differently if his athleticism and/or size jumped off the tape, but to me they don't. He looks like a D1 athlete, but not an elite one. This is admittedly an unfair comparison, but imagine if Benny Parker came in with a flashy, rather than fundamentally sound, skillset and style of play. He would have never gotten off the bench. Now granted Chase is MUCH bigger than Benny, but he's still going to be undersized most nights in the B1G at 6'0 165 lbs. And his athleticism looks much closer to the Benny end of the spectrum than it does to Cam/Verge. I don't see much in his game that I expect to translate to the B1G. His shot is long, exaggerated, and all elbows. And he has a short wingspan, so good luck getting that shot off without a massive cushion. I don't see great passer's vision in his tape. Ball handling appears to be his strength, so theoretically he may be able to run the offense without turning the ball over. That's something to build off of. However, his decision making and style of play will likely negate that.

We have 22 pages of people saying this sentiment in slightly different ways. And yet, we somehow make rock bottom just a bit deeper.

Four more years! Hard to believe Salloi will be 30 by the end of the contract. Still seems like he is just a kid. https://www.sportingkc.com/news/sporting-kc-re-signs-forward-daniel-salloi-to-new-four-year-contract-through-202 -
I feel fairly confident that among all the conference cellar dwellers nationwide, we are the very best. We should host an end of year tournament to prove that. Invite the last place team from every conference, and show them all how superior this last place Husker team is compared to them.

Excellent news. I'll plan to enjoy a 0.37 winning percentage this season then!

It's nice to look at the bottom of the table and see someone else's name listed. -
I guess a better comparison would be if someone offered me $5M to give up the activity I love most, since playing basketball isn't something I even do anymore. So for the sake of argument, we'll say someone offers $5M for me to never ride a mountain bike again. That's an offer for more money than I will earn in my entire career in exchange for giving up the activity I love most. I'm still taking that offer.
-
Man, $5M in the pocket is a heck of a way to start a career. And I believe that is all net pay since other forms of insurance aren't taxable. If I'm him and getting $5M to do anything I want with my life other than play basketball, I guarantee you I am not walking on a gym floor ever again.

This. 100% agree.

Hopefully this kid is a diamond in the rough. But it is tough to get excited by the way the 2023 class is shaping up when compared to our previous recruiting classes. -

The new guys seem alright. -
Sorry, I already turned the job down.
-
Dourisseau's gotta be pushing 40 by now, and Maric not far behind. But still a fun hypothetical.

Combine CJ's recent quote with Webster's mid-season radio interview, and I think you've got a pretty clear picture. No unhinging of reality needed.

Some things don’t need a joke. Some things are good and wholesome and can be appreciated for what they are.
-
Walker, man. He gets it.
-
That is a "punch you in the mouth" starting lineup for sure. Fred appears to be going the complete opposite direction from his comfort zone.

Just bought my tickets for SKC vs RSL this weekend. C'mon boys, let's get three points! Or one. One would be OK, too. -
The days of the 15 footer are gone. Analytics say it's a bad shot. As bizarre as it may seem, posts that can shoot threes at at a borderline respectable rate are more valued than posts that can hit 15 footers at a good rate.

Dog Days of Summer Recommendations
aphilso1 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Usually I transition from primarily bourbon sipping to primarily beer drinking when the temps get warm. But this year I’ve been really enjoying Old Forester 1920 well into the summer. It’s absolutely the best bourbon over a cube of ice that I’ve ever had. It’s pretty phenomenal neat too, but nobody wants to drink 115 proof hooch when it’s 100 degrees outside. That’s all I got. Dog days of summer indeed. -
Palmer has gotten starter’s minutes thus far. Performance has been…mixed. Shooting with more touch from deep than I remember him having in a Husker uniform, but he has turned the ball over a few times and showed some loose handles on other possessions.

USC & UCLA TO JOIN BIG TEN (beginning 2024)!
aphilso1 replied to Red Don's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Hinson is a Nebrasketball fan?!? Somehow I just can’t see that. Or did he retire and someone else is running the show now? edit: this is getting further off topic, so feel free to respond via PM -
Has any info filtered out from the scrimmage yet?

Are you involved with the NSRI UARC? Asking because that is an obscure enough reference that most people haven't heard of it. Wondering if you and I have met in real life. I worked on establishing it a decade ago, did some other stuff for a bit, and then came back and worked the second UARC contract from 2017-early 2020.
