  1. Travis Ford is a sneaky good option. Dude has a very high floor as his teams are always pretty good. Maybe he hasn't shown that he can be a high ceiling coach with a great team sprinkled in once in a while, but I think most of us would take a coach who consistently has his teams post-season eligible.
  2. At this specific moment in time, I think I'd like Fred to get another year. Ask me a different day and you may get a different answer. I don't really expect any improvement next season, nor do I expect him to turn it around in the long-term. Usually that combination would make me want to rip the band-aid off and move on. But there aren't a whole lot of coaching names jumping out at me as great mutual fits, and I can't imagine the current funding to hire a new coaching staff is what we want it to be. And with the way Trev has run his athletic departments (both at UNO and in Lincoln), I think he takes external circumstances into account. It's not just as simple as asking whether Fred is the right fit or not. In this case, I think Fred is the beneficiary of Trev looking around and seeing that it's not an ideal time to make the change and there are no slam dunk candidates waiting in the wings.
  3. No, but do you think he stays in Lincoln for a full 5 years?
  4. It seems like Mr. Lloyd may be needed at this point.
  5. Lots of history of rich men figuring out a way for their WAGs to recant on abuse claims. If it's just a big misunderstanding then it's tough to explain why she called 911 in the first place and why the police affidavit "lists several injuries to the woman: bite mark to the right forearm, abrasion to the right eyebrow, abrasion to the left leg from the knee to the foot, and a cut to the left thumb with dried blood." Also tough to call something self-defense if the fiancé went to another room after breaking Beard's glasses, and he decided to follow her there. https://www.statesman.com/story/news/local/2022/12/24/texas-men-basketball-coach-chris-beard-accuser-says-he-may-have-acted-self-defense/69754716007/ This seems like the sort of situation where as an AD you want to see Beard 2-3 years removed from the incident with no further issues. If this turns out to be a one-time thing, and the fiancé sticks with her current story that she initiated the domestic violence before he escalated it, then Beard probably gets another shot at employment down the road. But with Nebraska looking like we are going to be searching for a new coach in April, I don't see how his name can be on Trev's big board.
  6. Biding his time?
  7. With each head coaching stop, Craig is looking more and more like The One That Got Away. Solid four year turnaround at SoDak, followed by three consecutive NCAA bids at Utah State. Now in only his second year at Utah, he has the Utes off to a 5-0 start in Pac-12 play that no one saw coming. https://www.ksl.com/article/50551983/runnin-utes-remain-undefeated-in-pac-12-play-after-19-point-win-over-beavers In related news, Brandon Ubel is no longer on Craig's staff. Apparently Brandon landed his first full-time assistant coaching gig this season at SoDak. Gotta think Craig's connections there helped.

  9. Perhaps the people in Admissions that enrolled Roburt Sallie in classes are now working in Communications.
  10. This is correct. "Winter sport student-athletes who compete during 2020-21 in Division I will receive both an additional season of competition and an additional year in which to complete it, the Division I Council decided." https://www.ncaa.org/news/2020/10/14/di-council-extends-eligibility-for-winter-sport-student-athletes.aspx Juwan played in 2020-21, so he should be eligible for both an extra (5th) year of competition and an extra (6th) year to complete it. His 6-year clock started in the 2019-20 season, so his sixth season on campus would be 2024-25, which is two seasons from now. He played in two of his three seasons on Bama's campus, so he should have three seasons of competition available to him here. Whether he wants to be a sixth year college player is obviously a different story. Plenty of guys start looking at an incoming freshman class of 18 year olds, and realize they are in a different stage of life from their young teammates. But if he wants to play two more years he absolutely should be eligible.
  11. I was wondering the same thing. All I could come up with, was that GB implied something different than GR inferred. Perhaps Berhalter just meant that Gio was not in the first eleven, essentially relegating him to a sub in two matches and a starter in one other for the group stage. And perhaps Gio heard Berhalter's words and thought that meant he was on the end of the bench. It's not completely outlandish that Reyna, recovering from injury, wasn't penciled in as a starter. He can basically play three positions naturally in this system and each of those three positions was covered by a very capable player (LW Pulisic, RW Weah, #10 Musah). I know you had mentioned previously liking him as a False 9 but I'm not convinced. So really, he was competing for time with three players that were also very talented but in better fitness. It's not the fact that Gio wasn't in Berhalter's first eleven that was the glaring mistake, it's the miscommunication of that vision that is the issue. Clearly Berhalter didn't communicate his point very well, if Gio took the conversation so poorly that he decided to pout and not put in any effort at practice. Especially in this type of setting where the coach isn't the primary talent developer (that happens at the player's club throughout the year), his ability to motivate is supremely important. Ultimately I believe this poor communication will lead to Gregg being shown the door early in this next WC cycle.
  12. Should've got my pick in before traveling. Dang it. I think that makes three seasons in a row that I scuttled my chances by forgetting a pick.
  13. well then. anyone who feared GB would still be at the helm in 2026 probably doesn't need to worry about that anymore.
