  1. I caught highlights of the first half and watched the second. Shaky backline play at times, but overall was a good performance against a quality side. We still need a #9.
  2. I remember hearing about that happening when I was in college, which was much more than 6 years ago (Callahan Era). At the time it was just to make sure the visiting team's allotment would be sold, when the visitors returned tickets too late for Husker fans to gobble up. Obviously the amount of tickets being purchased in blocks by boosters/companies has increased, and is no longer relegated to returned visitors' tickets. But the practice of propping up the sellout streak by irregular means has been going on for closer to 20 years than 6.
  3. Fan bases suck everywhere. A fanbase that shows up even when there's very little chance of victory, plus treats the opposing fans with respect, is rare. You could argue that the military academies have a better fan base, but among the P5 schools I have a hard time believing you'll find one that tops DONU
  4. Breidenbach...maybe. I'm not expecting Keisei to even be in the regular rotation.
  5. Hot take: Lloyd has a chance to be our leading scorer even as a 6th man. That would certainly make him a breakout player. Projected starters all have offensive warts. Walker - he already "broke out" last year, so unless his numbers jump dramatically it is hard to see him having another breakout season. Also, he thrived working a two-man game with Verge on pick and rolls, and I don't see a distributor as crafty as Verge on this year's roster. I think his scoring and efficiency will take a step backwards as a result. Griesel - big jump from Summit League to B1G. Can absolutely fill a role for us but I see his numbers decreasing slightly from what they were at NDSU. Wilcher - great shooter but not a creator. I think he gets more shots this year and thus his scoring numbers increase. Not sure if that constitutes a breakout though. Emmanuel - we didn't bring here to be the feature offensive player. I expect he knows his role and will fill it. Gary - See Emmanual comment above.
  6. Trying hard to not...shoot...the messenger... You came very close to a downvote there, Navin. Nothing personal against you.
  7. Maybe. Although the dude "guarding" him in the photo on their website looks like he is about 6'4" and 300 lbs. So perhaps second division basketball in Australia is more akin to NAIA college ball.
  8. Lat is currently gracing the cover of the Marlins' team page: https://cairns.nbl1.com.au/news Also, he went for 15 points and 8 boards in his first game. Or in other words, the exact stat line we all hoped he would average in a Husker uni.
  9. Emmanuel definitely looks quicker and more agile on tape. Athletic is probably too generic of a word...I shouldn't have used it. I do think the highlight reel dunks for both guys are similarly impressive.
  10. He really seems to be as close of an apples-to-apples replacement for Trey as possible. I think we'll miss Trey's leadership, which is not a knock on Emmanuel; it's hard for anyone to transfer in and immediately take over as a leader. Emmanuel appears to maybe be a touch quicker/more athletic, and Trey a touch stronger. But aside from those minor differences, I think the role that they fill is nearly identical. Both have some explosive finishes at the rim in their highlight reels. Both are acceptable secondary ball handlers, but probably not someone you want logging lots of minutes at PG. Both keep the defense honest from behind the 3pt line. And both clearly build their game on a junkyard dog mentality. So with all of the transfers still available, Fred decided to fill his last scholarship on a Trey 2.0 rather than a true PG or a lead scorer/offensive focal point. maybe I'm reading too much into this, but that sure seems like an indication that style of play will be MUCH different this coming year.
  11. “While his scoring numbers might not jump off the page, Bandoumel was a fan favorite at SMU for his high motor and relentless effort on defense” https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/husker-hoops-land-smu-transfer-guard-emmanuel-bandoumel I’m noticing a trend. Seems that we are signing lunch pail guys rather than uber talented studs. Interesting.
  12. Yeah, if you take the fan bias out of the equation, it's not hard to see the appeal of UW. Madison has cool vibes and the surrounding area has some beautiful scenery. Lake Michigan coastline is nearby. Milwaukee is an hour away and Chicago is less than 3, if cities are important to you. If you told me I had to move back to the Midwest and job location wasn't an issue, honestly Madison would be under consideration and Lincoln would not. Loved my four years at DONU, but I don't miss Lincoln. Then add on to that the basketball component. Wiscy is regularly a winner and our program is rudderless. I don't blame the kid at all for his decision. Still sucks, but is understandable why we lose these head-to-head recruiting battles.
  13. Which is really unfortunate. He has the talent to be a nightmare for opponents from Day 1, and the measurements/body shape to be stuck in college for all four years. Yay.
  14. 100% this. Hoiberg must know that his style doesn't fit the roster. He has been telling recruits to expect a different style of play, but no details have come about saying exactly what that difference is. I'm hoping that for the upcoming season we'll play exactly like you've described. If not, and we continue to run up-tempo with a high % of 3pt attempts and hero ball, then I think we are in for another loooong winter.
  15. Sure seems like. He grew up a Badger fan, has been quoted as considering himself a "local kid" to the Madison area even though he grew up all across the country, and it seems like Wiscy didn't do anything to mess up his recruitment. I will be stoked if we land him, or even if he just goes somewhere other than Wisconsin. But unfortunately I think he's going to be a thorn in our side for the next four seasons.
  16. I saw the same thing and concluded the same thing. Curious, indeed.
  17. Yes, but who would you root for? I think I'd finally understand those people that wear custom split jerseys for two teams.
  18. Yikes. Usually these sorts of articles pump sunshine on our chances of landing a kid's commitment. This one reads like a coronation of him becoming a Badger. Sure does seem like we will be playing against him twice a year for the foreseeable future.
  19. I've been thinking about this one all day. Adreian seemed like one of the really good ones, both on and off the court. Definitely among the upper echelon of opponents that I most respected. This one stings.
  20. Not sure I agree until he responds to provide evidence he's still with us.
  21. Wow, that is not the Top 4 list I was expecting to see for Gus. The kid is highly skilled and had offers from quite a few bigger name schools, but his top 4 includes two historically inept P5 teams and a school that is more "mid" than "mid-major." Here's hoping we land him, although there's a piece of me that would be highly entertained watching him dominate the Colonial Conference for 4 years.
  22. I am scratching my head trying to figure out the math of whoever wrote this article. "Roby shoots 36-percent from three..." "...ranking in the 93rd percentile for his position on corner threes (50-percent), and 95th percentile on non-corner triples (45-percent), and 98th percentile overall for his position on all three-pointers (46-percent)."
  23. I hope that you and @basketballjones are right, particularly because I see a gaping hole at the PG position for us. I still think a couple years of major playing time at a Summit League school would be better for his development, but will be happy to eat crow if he makes the rotation for us this year.
  24. Take this with a grain of salt because I'm shooting off of memory, but I believe the LA Galaxy teams that won it were in the pre-CONCACAF Champions League. They were still CONCACAF champs, but under a different format and different name. I'll try to remember to look up the exact details later.
  25. I'm trying to look at this as good for MLS, but it's tough to be happy for a rival.
