  1. To borrow a 70's soda slogan, "Things go better with Miles".
  2. Well, maybe the Lincoln airport will be closed permanently after he gets here and he can't find his way out of the state.
  3. Very true. They don't have grass either. Or water.
  4. It still amazes me people are actually complaining about Miles. Most of the people I see complaining about him are bandwagon fans that just started following Nebraska basketball this season, so I try not to take their opinions as anything other than uninformed. Both of your replies may be directed at someone else, maybe it was mine. I think if you read through my response again, you will see I wasn't "complaining" about Miles. Not in the least. Just suggesting that recruiting here is tough, and that it's my opinion we haven't established ourselves as a permanent fixture in the upper division of the Big Ten just yet given who we have signed the last 12 months. Kamdy, if you are directing your comment at me that I don't understand recruiting - I'm guilty as charged. Just sharing my perception of what has transpired the last year. Who knows. I could be completely off base and we might have just signed two all-Big-Ten players this past year. Time will tell.
  5. Didn't read through everyone's commments, but quite frankly, 2014 looks very mediocre. We are spending way too much time combing through leftovers and transfer recruits this spring. We can't continue to do that and expect to be a consistent upper-division Big Ten team. I am anxious to see how this summer turns out, and would be very concerned if we don't have at least 2 players signed by fall that were top 250 or better recruits. I'm sure none of this is lost on our staff. They are working hard. And they deserve a long time to turn this program around. But last year's upper-division finish might be an exception rather than the rule for Mile's first 5 years if recruiting success doesn't turn around this summer.
  6. I saw where 87% of "BCS" schools had signed their allotted classes in the fall signing period and a portion of the 13% left are guys like Turner that we would have no chance of landing. This leaves a small amount of room to find recruits once the season actually starts. Recruiting for hoops is usually 2 years out. This fall is the class they attacked right when they got on campus. If this year doesnt produce with the connections, tournament run, facilities, etc then I think we can really start to question. That sounds reasonable. I'm with Coach. Nothing impressive (on paper at least) about the 2014 class. 2015 will be a better barometer of how good this staff is at recruiting. And of course, the combination of Miles personality, plus what we have seen the last 2 years on the court (what counts most, right?) means I'm going to give the staff plenty of time to work out the kinks in their recruiting.
  7. Speaking of which... I know this doesn't exactly belong under this thread, but I think that is our biggest recruiting error this year. Seems like Wacker was ours for the taking but we passed up on him.
  8. I guess I am not particularly excited about adding another one-and-doner. Yeah, I get the niche that a guy like Ayegbu provides, but what niche would Kreklow give us that we don't have now? I think you can over-load with short-timers and weaken the chemistry of the team.
  9. Gotta love it when a son of a Husker joins the team. Come on, Ed Morrow - what's good for Shavon and BJ might be good for you!
  10. Wow. I am a little shocked, given his interview a few weeks ago with one of the local beat writers. Doc made it sound like he wasn't in any hurry to be a head coach again. Anyway, congratulations! BTW, former Nebraska coaches don't have a penchant for snagging DI head coaching jobs after they leave here. I would say this is almost as good of a gig as Moe had at TCU.
  11. I don't know. Maybe I just need to be patient, but he must have already visited LSU before he committed the first time. What is he possibly going to learn by visiting another time? I'm guessing he commits to the Tigers.
  12. A chopper from Lincoln to Columbus? Seems to me that he could pull a Howard Schnellenberger and land in ... I don't know..... Myles Turner's front yard. Wouldn't you get more bang for the recruiting buck with a ploy like that? Didn't Gary Pinkel use a helicopter tactic on a quarterback recruit a few years back?
  13. Who??? Never heard of him. All I know, is that Clifford Scales is a Westchester grad:)
  14. Take a drive down I-40 and you'll have your answer. Seriously, though, I doubt he'd leave his alma mater for Mizzou. Been all the way across New Mexico several times on I-40, and also on I-25 and taken the Amtrak Southwest Chief. New Mexico is a beautiful place and I think Albuquerque is a decent spot. Plus, UNM hoops is a bit like the Huskers. Only game in town and the basketball coach there is a major celebrity. Seriously though, IMHO, Mizzou (and the SEC) would be a step down from the Lobos and the MWC. Only thing they would be able to do is pay him more money (he only makes $750k at UNM). However, UNM has shown the willingness to pay $2 million to Alford so he's got the ability to earn big dollars where he's at. Finally, Neal has a $1 million buyout in his current contract. That's going to be a big matzoh ball for even Missouri to try to swallow. But if you think the drive across New Mexico on 40 is bad, I'll counter with this...have you ever driven across Missouri on 70? But we agree. Mizzou's not going to get Neal. It was probably an unfair jab on my part on NM. Agree with you, New Mexico has it's beauty. And of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or however that phrase goes).

  16. Mizzou has a couple of 4-star recruits that could be back in the recruiting market http://collegespun.com/national/missouri-basketball-recruits-stunned-by-news-of-frank-haith-leaving-for-tulsa-this-is-crazy
  17. Not a bad comparison. Or Altman from Kansas St to Creighton.
  18. Matt Painter seems to be getting some mention as a possible hire for Mizzou. I could see that happening.
  19. I've never been very impressed by the guy anyway, but sort of an interesting turn of events for Mizzou. OK, let the TM speculation begin.... (he isn't going anywhere) http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/10797288/frank-haith-missouri-tigers-deal-coach-tulsa-golden-hurricane-per-sources
  20. Don't think there is anything to worry about. If one is worried about it, they could send the Miles residence this link. http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/98518/tennessee-gets-what-doesnt-want-but-deserves
  21. i think this makes a lot of sense. We have a veteran team returning, so the return on investment would be less than if you had a lot of newcomers. I would think the risk of doing a trip like this is you end up with burned out players by the month of March.
  22. I have seen accounts before, that said we were Wilt Chamberlain's 2nd choice behind KU in the 1950s, but can't seem to document that online at a quick glance.
  23. Wow, that's a strong statement. Hope you are right!
  24. Don't we owe Miami a return game this coming year?
