Andrew White III - Kansas Transfer
HuskerCager replied to uneblinstu's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
He hasn't made a visit to Richmond yet, right? It wouldn't surprise me if he would make a trip there yet and this thing would drag out a couple more weeks. I'm not sure what the drop-dead date would be for him if he wanted to attend UNL and not affect eligibility, but I'm guessing it is sometime after August 25. -
Brandon Walters -> Middle Tennessee State

Walters, from Walters State. Interesting. And a computer science major. -

No, I think this is a bad omen. He's eating Oreos. As in Orioles. Namely Baltimore, which is in Maryland. Obviously a subliminal message. -

Maybe it's been said already, but will this kid be a Jr or a Sr? -

The way this drags on with no news, it's starting to feel like the Roburt Sallie fiasco. We'll probably learn that Big Ten schools have a rule that they won't accept players with a "III" in their name. -
It might help us pull a few more marginal Big 5 players that might otherwise go to a mid-major, but I don't see how it will help us pull a consensus top 150 player.

Today's boxscore prediction: Total Fouls - Hawaii 13, NU 28

I think both of them have a point. Kamdy pointed out that it's early, but it's not all that early. In fact, I think Kamdy pointed out last week that most of these top 150 players will be committed in the next month or two. It concerns me when teams like Penn St are signing folks early and we aren't. Maybe this will all be a mute point a month from now, who knows. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we go another year without signing any top 150 players and it won't be the end of the world if we don't. Miles deserves as much time as he needs to get the program turned around. But I'm definitely not ready to proclaim that we've turned recruiting around in Lincoln until we start signing some of these people.

If I were a coach, I would have grey hair. Er.... if I had hair, I would have grey hair. -
Well, someone forgot to tell Mike Gesell, Adam Woodbury and Trey Dickerson about these advantages. Am I forgetting anyone else? Only one of those were recruited by the current staff so not sure why the others matter today. I would agree with you that the Dickerson decision is more relevant than Woodbury or Gesell's. Mostly because we had a different coach and different facilities when the other two were being recruited. Still, things like program perception and NCAA tournament bids transcend coaching staffs and facilities. So while I share Belcher's biased opinion that there is no place like Nebraska, I don't see much evidence that recruits are buying into that yet.

PG Kevin Dorsey from Virginia ...a 2015 Rivals Top 150
HuskerCager replied to trickey's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Nebraska will be fine...and who knows...if Nebraska's season goes as well as it potentially could, then Nebraska will end up on the radar of even more highly-ranked PGs. Not saying they won't be fine but this part got me. You know fall signing day, where over 85% of BCS players sign, happens before the first game. So there may not be much left after it starts. Exactly. I love Miles and his staff, but we clearly are not over the hump yet. Let's hope we start seeing some decent commits before October. It bothers me that players are still finding places like Minneapolis, Iowa City and yes - even State College, PA a more attractive place to play hoops (Penn St already has 2-Top 100 commits for 2015). -
My gut's burning just watching this.

Interesting. So where did this news come from? If so, I wonder if this is really a 2-1 deal, with the first game in Lincoln a couple of years ago? I was surprised RI would play us with no return game back then.

A nice article by Barfknecht on White in this morning's World-Herald. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/barfknecht-miles-has-the-resources-ex-jayhawk-looks-like-fit/article_11491b4e-fa84-11e3-b180-0017a43b2370.html -
Interesting. Well, we can hope. Meanwhile, here are some thoughts coming out of Ft Collins with the recent announcement of Octeus. I haven't seen the usual sour grapes coming from fans, media or players with regard to his leaving. Sounds like he was well liked. http://www.coloradoan.com/story/sports/college/csu/basketball/2014/06/21/blumhardt-octeus-departure-raises-red-flag/11227363/

Octeus has narrowed his choices to Mizzou, Cincinnati and UCLA. http://www.coloradoan.com/story/sports/csu/mens-basketball/2014/06/19/csu-guard-jon-octeus-narrows-list-schools/10872451/

15 home games would also likely mean that we have a maximum of 4 NC home games against teams we won't return the favor on their home floor (UNO being one of the four).
-
I find it pretty incredible that we are going to have only 15 home games. If I remember correctly, we are allowed to have 2 additional regular season games since we are playing in Hawaii, correct? If so, I would think we would have 14 non-conference games this year. Backing into the numbers based on above, this is what I would expect for a home-away breakout: Non-Conference 6 Home 5 Away Diamondhead Cl 3 Neutral (unless, of course, we are subjected to the dreaded officiating playing Hawaii) Conference 9 Home 9 Away Total 15 Home 14 Away 3 Neutral If that's the case, then there are 4 NC road games to announce, which I would presume will be against pretty good competition. Florida St is the only true road game announced so far, right? Even if we play 30 games, there would be 2 more road games to announce. This is stacking up to be a pretty tough non-conference schedule. NC Games so far: Tue, Nov 25 University of NE-Omaha Mon, Dec 1 @ Florida St Sun, Dec 7 Creighton Sat, Dec 13 Cincinnati Mon, Dec 22 @ Diamondhead Classic Tue, Dec 23 @ Diamondhead Classic Thu, Dec 25 @ Diamondhead Classic

To me, if he's interested in coming here, it will all be about "fit". He sounds like a valued team mate and a vocal leader. But our team is experienced and already has it's leaders. I'm not sure if Lincoln would be a good fit for this Sr, or not. But I trust Miles and staff will make a sound judgement if the opportunity is there. Would we take both White and Octeus? http://www.coloradoan.com/story/sports/csu/mens-basketball/2014/06/17/csu-players-shocked-hurt-jon-octeus-departure/10711877/

Hmmm... couldn't help but notice that next to the article announcing Octeus' departure from Fort Collins, there is another article announcing retail marajuana sales start on Friday. Must be a clean cut guy:)

The longer this drags out, the less I like our chances.

Didn't locate the box score, but ran across this snipet. Perhaps it is the same information you already have at your disposal. In a game filled with players committed to some of the best basketball schools in the county, assistant coach Aaron Weast, athletic director at Comanche, said Hammond, who is committed to Nebraska, held his own around the rim. When the six-foot 10-inch center fouled out late in the fourth quarter, it was a big blow for the Oklahoma team, which ended up losing 116-112 in overtime. “Texas had two bigs that could leap out of the gym, and we needed Jacob in the last few minutes,” Weast said. “He held his own and did a good job.” No, I didn't see that one. Thanks cwg.

To me, the best way to phrase it might be CU has the better all-purpose arena. NU the better basketball arena.
