Michigan(14-5) vs. Nebraska(12-8) Game Thread
brfrad replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Actually we would have been alright if we would have guarded inside the 3 point line the 2nd half. Michigan was 6-11 from 3 in the first half, but 4-14 from 2. In the 2nd half, they were 5-10 from 3, and 9-12 from 2. If we hold them to the same percentage in the 2nd half as the 1st half, they score 6 points instead of 18, and it's a 1 point game. So, the shots from 3 didn't kill us as much as the shots from 2 did. -

I said the same thing. They have some pretty similar philosophies in personnel and defense. I think we need to press all three point shooting teams and try to turn the game sloppy. It really worked tonight. That's gotta be in the formula for beating those teams. I think you got to pick and choose when to use the press. I was actually surprised how poorly they did handling the ball against us. I think if we use it more teams will prepare for it and it will be less effective. Plus, to run it you have to score. You can't allow them to shoot 11-21 from 3, and 25-47 overall and expect to win. Especially when you go 6-22 from 3. We have to figure out how to get White going, again. If we want any chance to beat Purdue next weekend, White has to go off. -

Good for Miles getting on his hands and knees to at least get one of the four fouls Michigan committed on that last drive. -

Can someone please explain to me how they called Walton as being in the act of shooting when Morrow slammed the ball out of bounds? Shields does the same thing on our end, and they call the foul on the floor. Heck most of the time there was no call I was especially livid when I thought they called the foul on Morrow. Then that inadvertent whistle cost us getting the ball in the 2nd half, because they couldn't decide who should have the ball, when Jacobson clearly had the ball when he blew the whistle. -

The numbers from 2 offset the numbers from 3. Michigan is 4-14 from 2. We are 11-19 from 2 despite shooting 2-12 from 3. That means we are +18 from 2. They are 6-11 from 3, after I think they are started, at least 3-4 from 3 when I checked. That means they we are -12 from 3. Need to get to the line in the 2nd half, somehow. -

It sucks for this game to be called by 1st time refs. -

Minnesota was down 15 in the first half on the road, and brought it down to the last minute. We're still alright, just have to stop trying to out shoot them, and get a hand in their face on threes. -
I thought about pulling the trigger on him also. Really, can't go wrong with any of the 5. I think he is going to regret not using a redshirt this year. He would be a redshirt freshman backing up Watson at point next year. I hope he sticks it out like Benny and becomes that defensive stopper.

I will say Jacobson. I was tempted to go with Watson, but he is playing pretty good already. Jacobson is a guy that if he can develop some post moves, and shoot from the outside, he is going to be one of the better players on the team.

Vote for the Nebraska Basketball Mount Rushmore

I went Hoppen, Lue, Pike, and Andre Smith. -
I turned it when Minnesota got down 15 (35-20). I don't think Michigan has an inside presence. I think we need to guard them like Illinois. Play straight up down low, and contest their 3's. Interesting stat from the Spartan game. They went 11-18 from 3, and 12-21 from the free throw line. MSU was 13-38 from 2. We shot 50% again, but 4-14 from 3. Tai was 2-5 from the line, everyone else was 8-9.

Need to get them back at the end of the year in Evanston. I thought we would be 2 - 4.

Nebraska(11-8) vs. Michigan State(13-6) Game Thread

I gotta be honest, I was surprised he missed. He's always been clutch on the line late in the game. I have no doubt he redeems himself next chance he gets. GBR.Tai was statistically our best free throw shooter It's not like those free throws were not close. The last 2 were halfway down and snuck out. It happens. Just shake it off, thank your teammates for having your back, and keep working. -

That and on the other end. MSU guy is standing out of bounds and the ball hits him. How is that off of us? -

This team is sooo much better than they were three weeks ago, as if it goes without saying. The key is the freshmen are playing beyond their years. Watson with 13 points. McVeigh has 8 and 6. Jacobson has 2 and 6. Morrow has 4 boards. -

Here comes the Tom Izzo effect. We can drive all night and we are not going to get a call. Tai got bumped 3 times on his drive, and no call. -

I agree, but I really hope we don't have to find out. Shavon makes us a much better team.
