Prairie View A&M (0-10) vs. Nebraska (7-5)
brfrad replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Second year in a row this is the case...at what point does Miles look in the mirror and decide maybe it's on him?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I don't understand how we can go toe to toe with Miami (Fl) who is ranked 13th, and Cincy, who is ranked 23rd, and lost by 2 to Iowa State, and play like super crap these last 2 games. I think we have to bring in the walk-ons for a few minutes, and teach these guys that if they keep playing this way they will see the bench much more. -

This team needs a swift kick in the rear. They seem to be playing with little energy. Like they can't wait for this game to be over, so they can go on xmas break. -

I hear why Prairie View is 0 - 10. They are horrific on offense. -

BR said he would find out after the game what is up. so until then nothing is official. I'm thinking it is the injury. He hasn't played much in the 2nd halves of the last 2 games when Miles announced the injury. -

Is anybody at the game? Listening on the radio doesn't sound like any fans are there. -

I wonder if Watson starting is because of Tai's injury or something they are trying something different. -

Kent just said it was Watson for Benny, not Tai. -
Samford is not more talented than us. More disciplined than us? Yes More unselfish than us? Yes. More talented than us? No. We played selfish ball, and made some boneheaded plays. Add to that, we played poorly defensively, couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, and tried to drive into the lane with nowhere to go, it was just a poor display of basketball for us. As for professional players on our team. Shields could probably make some money overseas playing basketball, if he doesn't stay in school. Watson will make some money somewhere playing basketball. Webster could go to New Zealand to make some money after his playing days are done.

Samford (7-4) vs. Nebraska (7-4) Game Thread

Yep. Fire him now. (roll eyes).Nope, but I get for some there is no in between. If you are happy with what you have seen on the court the past few years. Good for you. For me? Miles deserves some criticism.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I get criticism, but your comment was more in the realm of snark. Or, if it was criticism, it was of the useless variety.More of the useless variety. BTW, I'm not criticizing Miles ability to light up the room with jokes. He is the funniest coach in college basketball. Sometimes it's not so funny after losses though, especially horrible losses like this.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It also might have some help with recruiting, too. It might be why we got the recruiting class we got. The problem is some of the players are not improving. Hammond is one. After the Brooklyn trip, I thought he had turned the corner. Since then, though he has played terribly. McVeigh came out guns blazing in the first couple games, scoring 37 points in the first 4 games. Since then, he has scored 19 points in 8 games. Some of Miles' sub patterns are perplexing. White was on the bench with about 5 minutes to go, when we needed a shooter. Fuller plays 10 minutes mostly in the 1st half, barely sees the floor in the 2nd half. As for the starters, we were up 7-2 at the first media timeout. -

Freshmen the last 3 games vs. Creighton 3-16 shooting 0-3 3 pt shooting 2-3 free throw shooting 3 assists 2 turnovers 8 points 10 rebounds Loss by 16 vs. Rhode Island 10-15 shooting 3-3 3 pt shooting 6-8 free throws 8 rebounds 29 points 4 assists 3 turnovers Win by 3 vs. Samford 1-10 shooting 1-8 3 pt shooting 2-2 free throw shooting 11 rebounds 5 points 6 assists 5 turnovers Loss by 11 We have to ride the roller coaster with these freshmen. Watson played like a veteran against Rhode Island. He played like a freshmen today. -

That Samford player ran half way down the court without dribbling. How can division I refs miss that? -

One way to break the press, is to NOT LET THEM SCORE!!! Actually, the easiest way to break it is to play defense, so they can't score to set it up. -

Our defense is crumbling. Our offense can't hang onto the ball. We can't shoot the ball. We look like we couldn't beat a junior high team. -

Not a good half. Have to credit Samford for making us play out of control. Need to shoot the ball better, 2-10 from 3, and 4-12 from the free throw line, isn't going to cut it. I think this is our best defensive effort in the last few games. I just hope it was the week off for finals, and we will play a much better 2nd half. -

I'm surprised the refs didn't all a charge on Nebraska going for the ball when they called a jump ball. -

Samford has us playing out of control. 6 turnovers in 4 minutes. Not good. Defensive pressure is pretty good on our end, though, forcing tough shots for Samford. -
Hammond is really starting to show some signs to be optimistic for his future. I know he is our best defensive post player, and it isn't even close. He needs to get 20 + minutes a game. If Jacobson can start to play defense and gain some minutes that would be huge. There is still improvement for his future. He needs to develop some offensive post moves. He needs to gain some muscle where the bigger players can't move him. He needs to shoot free throws better. Minutes distribution I would like to see Center- Hammond 25 Jacobson 10 Morrow 5 Power Forward- Shields 15 McVeigh 15 Morrow 10 Small Forward- White 25 Shields 15 Shooting Guard-Webster 30 White 5 Watson 5 Point Guard- Watson 20 Parker 20 Total Minutes (games dictate these) Shields 30 White 30 Webster 30 Watson 25 Parker 20 McVeigh 15 Morrow 15 Jacobson 10 That gives us the chance to play Hammond/Morrow at the same time. That combination is avg. 4.0 offensive rebounds a game.
