We had to take the best team we could get, and this is probably it. Did anyone really think that KU, Duke or Kentucky were going to come open the arena? What would be the gain for a "major power" team to do that? I'm pretty happy with these guys. Just wish they still had their old coach (and his spouse) to bring along

My inside source in Lawrence (same one who assured me Danny Manning would never leave KU) confirms that Doc wanted Dooley's job which was not offered and that Wiggins dad will be named to Doc's present position before long. Good thing he kept his house in Lincoln.

I'll check with my inside sources on the Doc situation. Some of these one and done guys work out and some don't. I can think of a couple of examples at KU who were in the latter category.

Nate Johnson was virtually unstoppable with the ball in his hands as time was expiring. We have lacked a player with this particular skill since he left, although Jeter wasn't bad in his senior year. And to cut the newspaper writer some slack, this type of hyperbole with recruits is rather common. How many "next Larry Birds" have there been over the past few decades at many institutions anyway?

To reiterate a point made in the "Trey is leaving" thread, all this just makes us more competitive in the Big 10 next year. It would be nice to see us move up because our own team is getting stronger, but this will do for now. As the old joke goes, we only need to get faster than the slowest runner to avoid being eaten by the bear. Oh wait, Baylor isn't in our league any more.

Like all of us, coaches are not always able to follow their own advice. Does the phrase, "baseline to baseline" ring any bells?

This has nothing to do with this thread, but as I scroll to the bottom I am encouraged to watch a video of Semi Ojeleye on You Tube. Why? Semi is a player who lives in Ottawa which is a 30 minute drive from Lawrence and about the size of Beatrice. He decided to go to Duke after his junior year and although he excelled in high school, as he would have dominated the competition if he had played at Beatrice, Self never made much of a push to get him to KU. He sort of reminds me of Agau and I'll be curious to see what happens to him at Duke. But I don't want to watch him on YouTube.

Now if he would just force his players wear hats like the pope we could increase the average height of the team by at least a foot.

I always thought a free college education might be worth more in the long run, but that's just me. As I said before, I hope all of the players from teams we are going to play next year leave and that all of our players stay for four years. Its got to be a lot more fun sitting on a bench and playing video games in airports and hotels than sitting in some classroom listening to someone talking about George Eliot.

So that is a scoreboard. I thought the teams were just going to circle around it like they do in Mecca.

When will we be able to watch the paint dry?

While I continue to be disappointed in the desire of players with a modicum of talent to start making money as soon as possible, if one enjoys college basketball and affiliates themselves with the team rather than the players, I have to be happy with this. Our chances of improving upon our record next year have increased because of this news. I would have to believe that a team like NU who recruits with the idea that players might stay until they graduate actually stands a better chance of success than some of the five star one-and-done programs.

Have they announced the first game at the new arena yet? Rumors are that Neil Diamond will sing the anthem.
