  1. Norm: I agree with your post about the parking space value, plus you can have a lot more fun in the Holiday Inn.1 1.Unless your name is Standhardinger.
  2. You will note that Bo was being played by an over-the-top Will Ferrell.
  3. The comment made by the cop was very hurtful to the orca family and he should be ashamed. PETA should be all over this.
  4. Poor innocent Richie. He's certainly had an interesting football odyssey since leaving NU.
  5. Since we now seem to be going off on a Richie tangent, perhaps someone can post some Richie Incognito highlights here. The one of him tossing a loogie against KU would be classic.
  6. Crowd enthusiasm causing wins sounds a lot like a chicken or egg situation. The main difficulties the team will have to overcome are the frequent late starting times on weekdays, the winter weather, the unintelligible parking situation outlined in Sunday's LJS (where it is warned that even those fortunate enough to get indoor parking must plan a 25 minute wait to even exit the lot), and the availability of virtually every game on HDTV. With that said, a winning team should overcome all these factors. So basically it all comes back to Coach Miles and the team, not us fans. The next few years will be very interesting indeed, and the best new tradition to begin will be having consistant success on the court.
  7. Thanks to all for birthday wishes. Would have been perfect except the bosox let me down. Wasn't the first time and won't be the last. At least the game technically didn't end until after midnight in the east so it really didn't spoil my day!
  8. Thanks, uni, this was an unexpected surprise to start my day. I have enjoyed every minute I have spent on this site and am convinced rooting for Nebraska basketball brings out the best in one's character. I look forward to seeing our first NCAA tournament victories during this decade and think there will be many. A Red Sox victory tonight would be a nice way to end the day of a grateful septuagenarian.
  9. I like the movie idea. Let's pencil in Robert Duvall as Tom Osborne and feature a jealous, snarky, over-the-top Will Farrell as Bo Pelini for some comic relief.
  10. I'm too lazy to look this up, but has Nebraska ever had a losing record in pre conference season games? I can't remember one.
  11. I thought the recruiting board was something like a water board that Coach Miles uses. You mean that wasn't how he got Hammond to commit?
  12. What ever happened to holding your fingers behind someone's head in a photo to make it look like he had antennas? Now that was funny.
  13. Hey, we saw the only game the Red Sox won on Saturday and the Rays decided to go south at the same time, so I'm ok. Also, the Royals look like a pretty decent team this year. Nevertheless, just to be spiteful I will not give you one of those green "up" things and will give one to dimes for coming out of the Red Sox closet. By the way, I voted for first NCAA basketball win in my own poll.
  14. I'll defer opinion until we see how the parking goes. I went down to the Oven last night and spent 30 minutes driving around the Haymarket looking for a parking place. Made me want to apply for that handicapped sticker I deserve from not lacing up my basketball shoes all the way to the top. It wasn't even a particularly busy night, although there is all that last minute frantic construction going on and there was some sort of motorcycle event blocking one street. i can forsee pandemonium when the inevitable snow and icy winds accompany the basketball season. But I may be just a half empty glass guy when it comes to the arena, so we'll see how it goes.
  15. No way I can remember mine. They were just called canvas basketball shoes and the only selection was white high tops. If they were not laced to the top we were told that our ankles would blow out and we might be crippled for life. Maybe they were Keds. I broke the mold in high school by choosing some black low cuts like Frank Ramsey of the Celtics. By then I had already blown my knee out in an ill advised attempt at football and was already crippled for life. At any rate, basketball shoes had not yet achieved any more panache than one's brand of jock strap in those days and the brand was not important. I think my jock strap was a Bike- junior size in case anyone is interested. I do remember my first baseball glove fondly though. It was a Robin Roberts model.
  16. Wow, you guys are marvels at using your Ebays. That's the one.
  17. I remember posting a long article on Jojo a year or two ago in one of the other forums if anyone is interested in looking it up.
  18. No skeleton in the closet here. He and his family didn't feel he was getting enough playing time considering his hype and talents. Pretty much the same reason most kids transfer today. Probably was a good decision considering the amount of success he had at Iowa.
  19. hhcdimes:I didn't mean to imply it wasn't done or that we were perfect- just that it might be bad form. Does this mean it might be ok to make a play for a friend's fiancee? Of course I would have to find a friend first...
  20. Shouldn't it be considered bad form to try and poach an assistant from a team in your own conference? Just wondering.
  21. Let's have another of those meaningless polls which I hate since this is dead time for real news and August begins with me still optimistic about all of my favorite teams. Please realize I am hyped up on coffee and a six run comeback in the ninth against a seemingly unhittable King Felix.
  22. That's the article in its Cliff's notes version, though. OWH story is a lazy followup on the original.
  23. I'll let the mods move this to the proper forum and perhaps attach a link, but I thought it was worthy of the attention of anyone living in Nebraska who likes basketball. I got around to reading my July 22 copy of Sports Illustrated and noted an article by Chris Ballard titled "The Wizard of Kabul". Turns out it is about Tom Gouttierre, dean of the center for Afghanistan studies at UNO. It was extremely interesting, and undoubtedly the only one we will ever read mentioning John Wooden, Bill Bradley, and Hamid Karzai in the same context.
  24. I'll not quibble, you may be right. I just thought that the basketball matchups had already been mentioned some time ago. At any rate, when you are my age it is hard to get excited about anything set to occur in 2020 and 2025.
  25. And who are these Jays of whom you speak?
