I have no problem with futeball posts-to each their own. And I have seen many games of grandchildren's soccer. And I always watch the world cup with interest. But to mount my Jingoism soap box, baseball , basketball and football are the "American" sports when compared with the rest of the world's preoccupation with the "beautiful game" (and I do know Jimmy Naismith was not born in the good ole'USA). So I suggest that has a lot to do with the tolerance on the board for digressions on those three sports. And before the soccer lovers bash me, let me say that KU grad Grant Wahl is the nephew of my college roomie and I have his autograph. So enjoy those nil-nil games, guys, and I will plan to watch more paint dry when the Red Sox/Yanks 4 game series begins at Fenway this weekend.

Norm, Turner Gill is 54 now. I'm sure Allen should be able to edge him out.

Not to hijack thread but I assume that no one has heard or seen anything to give us a hint on Copeland's physical or eligibility status. I would like any positive report on either as soon as there is any news, please.

Auroran: I think that photo is the basis for the caricature of Pettiway which immortalized him on the internet on the final issue of Grantland.

Thanks for asking, uni. I am one of the fortunates who have been certified as totally cured. Nothing against Miles or the Pinacle but the late hours and lack of Saturday games make taking grandkids less viable so I don't see the glory days of the BDSC returning, particularly since the old fixed income dictates either football or basketball tickets, but not both. And ,alas, my sons seldom visit the site any more so the sideburns will continue to gather dust. Will probably take some success to bring them back.

And remember, anyone with two seats near the court who wants to sit next to the end zone to see any football game this year just needs to contact old Jimmy for a trade. I will even promise to wear red.

Down year plus coaching emphasis on team concept. Curious how other "major" conferences fared. Anyone care to research and post? I'm too lazy.

Chocolate milk and Vegamite....mmmmmm

I wonder what happens to the trophy? Scrap metal or Craig's list? It might make an attractive paperweight.

How exactly will that work? Does the NCAA have to pay someone to put an asterisk beside every mention of the NCAA championship? Does Pitino have to take a tiara and mirror ball over to Ann Arbor? Does Michigan now get to claim an NCAA title? Just wondering.

At Last, Huskers to receive their full-share!

Sweet. Now they can lower the tuition! -
Now this is serious.

I suppose in the case this is true, we should just mark off two defeats to OSU for next year. On the other hand we might get that Bluejay streak broken.

Anyone who started his career playing for the Hoopston Cornjerkers is ok by me.
-
Amazing what you can learn on Wikipedia. And some of it may be true. Thad played for a high school team called the Hoopston Cornjerkers. And he is already listed as the ex OSU coach. And he isn't dead. And he is a protege of the master, Barry Collier. Perhaps the master can now be coaxed out of retirement??

Two thoughts: 1. Any interest at all in Wingett for NU 2018 class? 2. I understand Father Flanagan has taken another step toward sainthood. Allen should be right at home with coach Huggins who has also advanced a bit further toward satanhood.
-
Ah yes, now there was a gym with a bit of a home court advantage!

Nice try, cwg. I think Larry was from Hastings. I am thinking of Derek Lodwig who played on the great Danny Nee team of 90-91 and even attended the reunion in 2006. He might have even scored a point or two while he was here. Played for Elkhorn against one of my kids in 1988.
-
Bonus question of the day: We all know Johnny Trueblood was also from Elkhorn. Who can name a third walk on from Elkhorn who played for the Huskers?

Tyronn Lue is the new Head Coach of the Cavs

And , bye the way, how did we manage to stray so far from Ty Lue? -

Its always fun to speculate on how anyone from the past would rank on any sort of "all-time" list but ,in the end, as relevant as ,say, ranking the best armies of all time. I'm betting even the most destitute of today's third world dictatorships with a few tanks, a couple of planes, and a few dozen bombs could mop up Napoleon's legions in no time. -

Jacob: Another couple of books for your must read list are , of course , "Nebrasketball" which I assume you have already read, and John Feinstein's book " The Legend's Club" which actually makes you like Mike Krzyzewski and be able to spell his name without looking it up. -

Jacob: Your next assignment in Basketball Books 101 will be "The Breaks of the Game" by David Halberstam. -

Jacob: If you plan to continue to write about basketball I strongly suggest you read "The Book of Basketball" by Bill Simmons. In addition to being a pretty funny guy, he knows a lot about the game which he manages to cram into only 700 pages. Part of the book rates the "all time best" players. Jordan is #1. He rated LeBron #20. It was written in 2009, and I'm sure he would now make the top 10. -

Bird, Magic, Russell, Jordan, Kareem..... I can't put him higher than those guys. He does fall in the next five though with Kobe,Wilt, West, and Duncan.
