    Paying your way is different that being on something other than an athletic scholarship. I'm not sure what the rules are basketball vs. football in this case, but if you're paying your way, you don't count against scholarship numbers regardless of whether or not you see the field/court.

    Have zero issue with Fred waiting til his son's season is over. I'd want that if I were in his shoes, too. Also, if that what it takes to get him, then who am I to quibble about something like supporting family during a lifetime highlight?

    Absolutely. And I know there are staffers below that who are looking to jump into the coaching ranks that are very highly thought of, too, so there are lots of things in flux for a lot of people.

    Sure. And he's gonna have a bunch of people interested in working with him. The assistants in Lincoln are also really good. I think he'd be wise to consider them.
