I can't shake the year 1 vibes I get from this team...
FredsSlacks replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
i assume he'll get a year 5 in the same way that frost did, but fred has some serious work to do in the offseason for this to be an above .500 team next year. -

i'm fairly certain half the member on this board could have coached us to a 34-77 record. what exactly is the argument to bring back fred for year 5? -

it was extremely obvious this team was not going to do well against power 5 teams. time for a new coach -

i swear coaches are just coming here to steal money at this point. lol literally anyone could have done what frost and hoiberg have done in their times here. -
Projected Rotation and Starting Lineup
FredsSlacks replied to NUdiehard's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
i agree that this team probably won't be as selfish as previous years. that may be the catalyst that leads to more wins. but not sure there is enough overall talent to compete in the big 10. -
Projected Rotation and Starting Lineup

going to be very surprised if this team has a winning season. hope i am surprised. -
he's a steal in the 2nd round. his potential is pretty high.

roster as of right now: pg-griesel, lloyd, mcpherson sg- mcgowens, tominaga, lawrence sf- wilcher, dawson, pf-mayan, breidenbach c-walker, keita, Oleg i would guess we see at least 1 or 2 more transfers. I think we still have work to do in the transfer portal if we want any chance of being above .500 next year.
-
adidas is better than they were 10 years ago, but nike is still vastly superior.
-
are we sure walker is coming back? dude is already 24 years old...is he getting enough NIL money where it'd be worth playing college bball at age 25?
-
sallis played fewer minutes than tominaga did here. let that sink in. i think there's a good chance he transfer regardless what the backcourt depth is like at gonzaga next year. given our lack of point guard depth and fred's reputation for producing nba talent, i think we have just as good of a shot at sallis as anybody if he decides to transfer.
-
if i was sallis and seeing bryce mcgowens getting lottery hype after playing on an awful nebraska team, i'd be like why the heck didn't i just do that? rather than move halfway across the country to play 10 min a game and essentially get benched in the ncaa tournament.
-
idk, but he's only played 3 minutes in this game as a 5 star freshman. granted gonzaga is a top 5 program right now, I would still be concerned about my playing time if I was him. We literally don't have a point guard right now, and he could make bank with NIL here. And Bryce is about to be a 1st rounder after playing 1 season here.
-
Here is my hot take. Hunter Sallis will either transfer to Creighton or Nebraska after this season. he's barely even in the rotation at gonzaga, and I think the NIL money at Creighton or Nebraska would be much better than whatever he's getting at gonzaga right now. he would have started almost every game here and probably made way more in NIL money.
-
if this is accurate and you factor in the greisel and Lloyd updates then we have: pg-sam griesel/mcpherson sg-dawson/lawrence sf-wilcher pf/c-andre/keita/walker/breidenbach/oleg fred has some work to do...
-
we need more players like griesel that just want to win. fred has recruited way too many selfish players since he's been here.

2022 SF Ramel Lloyd Jr - LOI
FredsSlacks replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
raid the summit league's best players and hope for the best. -
i'm not kicking him while he's down. I just find it interesting that people are wishing doc well, but when Riley got fired nobody gave a S**t about his well being. I was genuinely just trying to figure out the difference, but apparently nebrasketball fans are just kinder than the football fans? a good example is that if frost brought riley on as an assistant, i don't think the football fans would be happy at all about this. where with Doc it was celebrated even though he did no better than riley as a head coach here.
-
so did mike riley, but i don't see people thanking him.
-
Serious question. What exactly did he do for the program besides get paid millions to coach a sub .500 team for roughly 10 years?
-
every game i went to, doc looked like he didn't want to be there. not to mention our defense was atrocious.
-
i'm very curious who replaces him. it's not like fred has a lot of time to build a program from scratch. he is already on the hot seat.
-
talented player, but never showed any sort of mamba mentality except in the Ohio state game. Maybe he'll develop a killer instinct in the future. his nba ceiling is probably brandon roy and his floor is jarrett culver. really just depends how much work he puts in because he has the physical gifts.
