2021-2022 expectations
Fullbacksympathy replied to B-town hoopsfan's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Really excited for Keon seeing where he’s bulked up to. That might say a lot about how serious he’s been taking prep. That’s the weight I was hoping he’d get to as an upperclassman! -

Holmgren and Timme are going to be an insane front court. I see why Hunter went that route. -
2023 SG Parker Friedrichsen -> Wake Forest...for now

Not sure how natural of a PG he is, but he can shoot the mess out of the ball and looks like a pretty good defender. Hope we can land him. -
The stars definitely matter, but you want old 4* players across the board. Also, I hate Iowa, but props to them for reigning in a whole lot of 4* players rated 3*. We'll make some noise this season. Hoping for the bubble and some post season play seems reasonable. What's amazing is how quickly that can change. I think one more top 20 class like this and we'll be a top 5 team in the league with a tournament win on a regular basis. The kids know Fred is a dude who can get them to the league, and the recruiters are top notch.

What will our rotation look like next year?
Fullbacksympathy replied to huskerbill85's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think Wilcher is going to have guaranteed minutes for three reasons: 1. He has legit experience, can shoot it, and is said to be a good defender. 2. He has good weight/strength for the B1G. 3. Little bro is going to be watching how we use him closely, and that dude may be our most important recruit ever. I love Keon's upside and I think he'll show flashes this year, but I agree that squeezing him in there might be difficult for extended minutes. He's listed at 170lbs, but he looks like he has Petteway/Palmer upside. Main difference is those two dudes got their weight up over 200lbs in college. Very excited about Keon's future. I think he'll show flashes this season. -

My dark horse is still Tominaga. I think he's going to have heat checks given to him every night, and I would be shocked if there aren't a couple of games he takes over on the offensive end. With Bryce, Trey, and Zo being able to get to the paint on just about anyone, I think Keisei and Lat are going to be deadly, especially if they're on the court at the same time. Trey, Bryce, Keisei, Lat, and Walker in a 4 out is pretty formidable offensively. I could see CJ filling that Keisei role as well, but if Keisei is at all open... that sucker is probably going in. -

Shooting wasn't our problem
Fullbacksympathy replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Re: half court offense... agree. I think there will be a big difference between what Verge and BMac bring vs. Teddy and Thor just in terms of being able to get iso shots up without turning the ball over. A lot of times a guy who can score one on one (let alone three of them with TMac) can mitigate turnovers by not passing. They can also create more turnovers in the case of Teddy, but that was more of a speed/handles issue. BMac and Verge aren't going to have that problem. As for rebounding, we are deeper than last year at the 4-5 with WB and EA coming off the bench. We'll also presumably have all 4 bigs the entire season which will also influence those numbers. -
Cochran is a very apt comparison. I think Keisei is more athletic, a better all around offensive player, and an equal shooter. This isn't an apt comparison from a shooting standpoint, but Gallegos really helped us offensively with his ability to move without the ball and hit the occasional three. He was a WAY better defender than Keisei but I could see Keisei getting the same shots and making a lot more than RG did.

2023 PG Simeon Wilcher -> UNC->St John
Fullbacksympathy replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Sounds like a very mature kid with a great family. Glad to have his big bro here. I think Fred makes a whole lot of sense for Simeon and pops from a personality/intellectual standpoint. -
Still liking Keisei a whole lot. 3v3 didn't change my mind either way. He'll be a bit of a defensive liability, but he'll also have games where he outscores the guy he guards by 15. If he's not on, we have options, but he'll absolutely be worth rolling out there for a heat check every game. He's not just a shooter offensively either--good passer, good handles, great movement without the ball, high IQ. He'll help... on offense.

OT: You can't spell "SEC" without "Texas"

I don't remember the article I saw that figure but it was top 10 in revenue according to their metrics. I hold my tongue on the product on the field until after next season :) -

I still think our football brand, which is still in the top 10 in value, would get us our pick of the litter in terms of conferences despite our recent struggles. I wouldn't have wanted to test that theory, however! -

Total cluster for the remaining teams. They should make a pact to stay so they can get that massive penalty payout from whoever leaves before 2025, but it'll be interesting to see how the AAC and teams like Houston and BYU enter the convo. -
That a kid. Two of my favorite high character players with him and Roby in the league now.

Thanks for the info. I guess with regard to the number of votes, I'm wondering what the critical mass (or lack thereof) might be for votes to fluctuate. What is the minimum number of teams one can have to actually constitute a conference? But it's to the end of your #1 that has me concerned about stability. What happens if the non-SEC caucus cannot stay united due to either 1) poaching or 2) not providing a place for at least respectable institutions to land? Hasn't the macro vision for the SEC always been to be the catalyst for the mutiny of leaving the NCAA entirely and figuring most teams will follow their lead or at least desperately try to be a part of their movement? They could very well be attempting to build something higher than D1 and outside the purview/jurisdiction of the NCAA here, at least in football. If that happens, it would be because the other power conferences lost their stability due to big dogs leaving. They'd probably need about 30 to make it a viable semi pro league. That perception, in my mind, could be altered quite a bit with a bigger B1G and P12 alliance, even if it wouldn't prove to be very fruitful monetarily. Those two conferences could cover a lot more geographic territory than the SEC, and I think geographical alliance is going to matter to athletes and families, even if the money gets watered down a bit. I'm just spitballing but I'm trying to find the endgame in real time. Curious on your thoughts. Edit: Also, I would imagine an alliance could result in a massive, massive tv contract with Fox, who is still a major player in this whole scenario. -

The ACC big shots will get swallowed up by the SEC in due time. They are in a better position on some level because of their television contracts, but the $$ their neighbors will be making is likely going to be too much for teams like Clemson to turn down. There isn't a tangible benefit to insurance unless you need it. The insurance is having power in policy moving forward. Now, perhaps the B12 remains in tact, but I don't see it having any prayer of being considered a power conference if they do. Plus, half the money just left. Who would join the B12 at this point with every school looking around? If the SEC moves to 20 teams and the other conferences remain small, who knows how the voting will shake out in terms of power conference status? Unless you have the numbers to match them. I think the number needs to be even and we know it needs to be an AAU team. That reduces our options pretty much to ISU unless we start poaching non-dead conferences. -

Fullbacksympathy replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think it's about legislative leverage at this point for the B1G and PAC. It would be nice for both conferences to go up to 16+ teams without poaching one another and ruining our alliance. The B1G and PAC are going to have to merge at some point, either in name or in operation, just to keep hold of the legislative power within the realm of the NCAA. If I'm the commish, I nab KU and ISU right now. The B12 and P12 don't have to worry about the AAU requirements. We do. The SEC will likely get up to 20 or so teams. We need to boost our numbers along with the P12 without ruining the alliance. We need to be able to say, "Have fun with your 20 team ESPN semi pro league. Our 35 teams plus independents plus midmajors will continue to compete for NCAA titles." We don't have that power right now, and if we wait too long or screw over our friends, it'll never happen. The B12 is dead. Poach a couple. But don't try and screw over the P12 in the process. -

Yep. Don't think the commish would risk slander if he didn't have something solid to back his claims against a corporation with that much influence. -
I've watched a lot of the 3v3 games with Tominaga. Japan is very undersized so he's been stuck guarding giants and they take full advantage. He also struggles a bit on perimeter defense. But, holy cow, that kid needs no room to get his shot off against guys 4-5 inches taller. He's going to score a lot more than he gives up on many nights. Great to hear about WB. He has a whole lot of game for his height and it sounds like he's hit the weights hard since his arrival. With weight, he's going to be scary. High IQ.

Love this. I wonder if we're working on Bronny James at PG? :) Teammates. -
Beyond that, the people listed have been known to be tireless workers. I liked Moos for the most part, but Trev is going to pride himself on being present and rival our coaches in his own work ethic.
