  1. Tim used to do team camps, not sure if Fred ever has but Covid may have interrupted them. Easy way to evaluate talent of kids in the region.
  2. Name sounds like a Notre Dame offensive tackle.
  3. Beating LBJ counts for something, if nothing else it keeps him from matching MJ's 6 titles. You also have to give the Warriors credit for making it through a tough West bracket every year. The "weak tea" has been the Eastern Conference. Every team with a claim for the "greatest dynasty" (except the Auerbach Celtics) has a "what if" associated it with it. Warriors could easily have won 2 more titles without the injuries to their stars, plus the bizarre Covid postseason.
  4. NCAA wants "windows" for entering portal, rather than just a May 1 deadline: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34103087/ncaa-recommends-transfer-portal-windows-changes-infractions-process Interesting that half of portal players go unsigned. It's often portrayed as "looking for greener pastures" but these kids are far more likely to be the ones who were "encouraged" to look elsewhere. If you're somebody like Serge, you can always transfer down from a power league to a mid or low major, but the low major kids have few options. I think UNO had 4 scholarship players leave and all are still unsigned.
  5. I'm glad we're showing the flag, but tbh that's a pretty underwhelming class.
  6. Regarding the demise of the mid-range jumper: https://www.theringer.com/nba/2021/12/7/22821023/nba-shot-quality-midrange-kevin-durant-brooklyn-nets I get that analytics can get tiresome, but they are designed for one thing: winning. Take good shots (inside or else 3s, which count for more points). However, good players (and good teams) have figured out that a defense with a shot blocker and pressure defense on the 3 point line can be countered by ..... the mid-range shot. The mid-range is a killer against drop coverage, which a lot of teams play. Look, I love basketball and the NBA has the world's best players. I honestly don't care if any of you don't watch, I just don't get a thread knocking it when a lot of us do. There's a popular soccer thread on this board, and I didn't go in there to point out that the Ukraine lost a 1-0 match because one of its players accidentally headed the ball into his own net. That's why I don't watch soccer, too many 1-0 games decided by a fluke shot or a guy pretending to get fouled. However, I'm happy for anyone who does enjoy it. To each his own. I'm not going to Applebee's again tonight, but I won't start a thread about it.
  7. I didn't go to Applebee's last night.
  8. I wonder if he wasn't just saying he was going to make a pitch to other recruits and that he knew Green, and the reporter connected the dots. Green and Clemmons are both 2023 smallish PGs, and Green's rated higher. Not sure why Clemmons would want Green in the same class.
  9. Sorry, I have to comment. You guys have missed some great basketball. Steph Curry and the Warriors have played some of the most entertaining basketball in the history of the sport. Kevin Durant and Giannis also are among the all-time greats you've missed, and Luke Doncic is a blossoming superstar. So I guess you're not basketball fans, just Nebraska fans? This is a strange thread. Maybe I'll start one: "I didn't eat at Applebee's last night"
  10. According to Torvik, Rutgers is second in the BIG in returning minutes and in years of experience. He projects at 7th.
  11. Very strange that they wouldn't have camps. Those things kind of run on their own, so not sure why Fred would cancel them.
  12. Torvik's updated roster shows: PLAYER YR HT PRPG! MIN% ORTG USAGE PPG RPG APG Derrick Walker Sr 6-9 3.8 80 112 20 14.5 7.6 1.8 Emmanuel Bandoumel Sr 6-4 2.4 77 102 20 12.8 4.1 1.8 C.J. Wilcher So 6-5 2.3 69 106 18 10.1 3.4 1.4 Sam Griesel Sr 6-6 2.2 66 103 20 8.8 4.3 2 A little more realistic, Kensei down to 5 ppg (lost minutes to EB). The algo now sees us as 15-16, 7-13 in the BIG. (tied for 12th with NW). Minny is last. We're ranked last in "talent," not sure how that's figured, but lead in "experience" at 2.48 years per player. We're in the middle in returning minutes
  13. Oh, that's just &*%^^ing great.
  14. I'm interested in seeing the board's predictions later in the summer. Seems like a lot of gloom right now, but hey, 2 months of hype videos and stories about how "things are different this year" might change that. They've all added 20 pounds! (in a good way) They've all added 6 inches to their verts! They make all they're shots! They have wild dunks! They're like a family! Let's see what you pessimists are made of by August.
  15. And Tyrese Hunter, the Big 12 freshman of the year, at PG.
  16. Considering where we've been the last 3 years and how we've played, I just don't see us suddenly being a fast-paced, tough defensive team. If the coaching staff could turn the switch that easily, seems like they would have done it before. And we're overhauling the roster yet again, with only 4 guys who have ever stepped on the floor together. I'm not saying we'll walk the ball off the floor, I'm saying we'd sure as **** better make extra passes to get great shots since we don't have great shooters. And we sure as **** better make it hard for the other team to score. I've seen 3 seasons of prioritizing Fred's "system." I'd like to see some baby steps. If we can do that in non-conference, then maybe we can push tempo more as we get into the BIG grind.
  17. I don't disagree that we'll be more efficient, I just don't think we'll score as much. Virginia consistently averages in the 60s while being top 50 in efficiency (though last year they were 85th in efficiency and 337th in scoring). Loyola has won the same way the last few years. It seems to me that the message to Fred was to run a tight ship -- a team that plays hard and together. You do that by refocusing on defense, rebounding and playing smart on offense. That all adds up to longer possessions.
  18. Spot on. The 73 ppg last year was for a team ranked 19th in adjusted tempo. It's obvious that this team is going to try to win on grit and toughness, meaning physical defense and working for good shots. This roster isn't capable of putting up a lot of points with a much slower tempo. If our tempo is 100+ this year, then we're going to score a lot less but hopefully win more games.
  19. It always gripes me when a story about a basketball player doesn't tell how tall he is (he's 6-4). Sorry, woke up cranky this morning.
  20. https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/huskers-continue-to-replenish-walk-on-ranks-with-addition-of-grace-iii-from-arizona-state/article_dc5a70bb-3855-59c9-9122-937dfdeb1707.html Walk on, played AAU ball with Fred's son.
  21. Year 4: We build a roster to compete in the Big Ten. Ain't gonna be pretty to watch sometimes, but we'll win more games.
  22. Both Lat and Trey? Based on something you've heard, or because we haven't heard anything?
  23. https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/Article/Nebraska-Huskers-basketball-walk-on-Cale-Jacobsen-187435150/ I had to check that, and he actually was the NBCA player of the year, over Traudt and Green. Not sure how they decide that.
  24. He also could be a guy like Charlie Easley who mostly rides the bench here and then transfers to a Summit school for more playing time. I think Cale has more upside, but he also probably doesn't going to make it on the court next season, barring injuries or during mop-up time of blowouts. Charlie got playing time on a really weak roster, Cale faces a bigger uphill battle to get on the floor.
