  1. I liked reading that report, it gave me some hope for some reason. I think Watson, Webster, White, Morrow, McVeigh, Jacobsen, Gill, Roby, and Horne are a nice core group. Fuller would make 10. Clearly you're missing some length in the post there - but I promise you guys - basketball can be played at a high level without a 7ft'er. Primarily, it's done by shooting the basketball well. And I think you're going to see significant shooting improvements from Watson and McVeigh specifically. In addition to White, I think we can be just fine next year - middle of the pack squad contending for a bubble spot. Be nice if we could add a graduate transfers at two roles - a dead eye shooter and a defensive paint clogger/shot blocker. But I don't think it's necessary for us to have a decent year. I certainly do not think it takes a wild stretch of the imagination to go from 16-18 to 20-12. Then you just see how the pieces fall. And a little luck and you're 21-11, 22-10 range.
  2. Oh no my friend, I've seen that look before - eyes are not closed. He's doing some "research" on the young lady next to him.
  3. Yeah agreed, Draymond is still and NBA-level athlete. Same "type" of player though, which is why it's a fair comparison. I don't think JH is a "bad" athlete by any means, so hopefully no one is getting that idea - just from the clips I've seen he doesn't seem like a high flyer though. Which again, nothing wrong with that.
  4. I can't read Griffin without hearing MC's voice in my head saying "KELSEY GRIFFIN"
  5. I feel like there's something else going on here with the frequency of these...
  6. But yes I do see the comparison between the two. Both unimpressive athletes as far as getting up and being explosive (it's ok, settle down, not everyone has to be Russell Westbrook and DeAndre Jordan), but both have the ability to score from multiple positions. Horne looks to be the better athlete of the two, Jenkins a better shooter. If they're both swing men and tweeners, Jenkins is closer to a 3, and Horne is closer to a 4 (little more athletic, longer, and better with back to basket).
  7. Is that not a massive travel at the 2:05 mark?
  8. I did. I was joking around about it. Did you read the responses? It's hilarious how fickle the coaching profession (and, subsequently, transferring players) appears to be and that some people care about 'their' team a wee bit too much. Calipari -> Pastner -> Tubby. They're going from an uptempo guy who got them 1-2 seeds to an uptempo guy who topped out at a 6 seed to a guy who will win there but probably not much more than Pastner and it will in a ho-hum slow sort of way. This is the NFL equivalent of finding out your team just hired Marty Schottenheimer. Perfect comparison.
  9. What about Tyler Summitt? We'd certainly make the news!
  10. Again not rocket science. Getting outcoached means the other team coached better than you did. I cannot believe there is so much confusion about what getting outchoached means. It has nothing to do with the end result of the game. It is simply did you coach better or did they coach better. You can be badly outcoached and still win a game and you can outcoach someone else and lose the game. Making or missing an extreme percentage of shots has nothing to do with coaching. Not making any type of adjustment on simple pick and rolls that result in a no name NW freshman scoring 30 or so points mostly on offensive rebounds because of a flawed defensive scheme does. Hope this helps you understand. Could you argue, at the college level anyways, that part of being "out-coach" is being "out-recruited?" Makes it very difficult to judge whether or not you need an X's and O's guy or a recruiting guy for your next assistant. In my opinion, a staff would be best served to have 2/3 assistants as big time recruiting guys, with all the connections. And the other coach is an X's and O's guy that acts as the right hand man to the head coach. Your assistants should have two roles basically, recruiting and in-season scouts on opponents. With one of the assistants that's not as much the recruiter, primarily in charge of delivering the scouts. Let your GAs, and those other types of positions deal with player workouts and individual drills.
  11. Please don't ever say that again.
  12. I certainly hope we can do better
  13. Not surprising. Best of luck to the young man. Hope he finds success somewhere.
  14. Hard to think we could be in a better position because of how amazing Coach Yori did in her time here - but I think we are going to be in a good place with this hire. I think Coach Williams will create a thriving, positive, great vibe culture.
  15. did you mistakenly think this is his twitter account? https://twitter.com/thugkalebjoseph His real account hasn't been used since October 2014. Just wanted to point out that "trash individual" are the poorest choice of words and the furthest from the truth in describing Kaleb. He took his relegated role in stride this year and any article you read about his transfer will tell you that. maybe do a little more research next time before calling a 20 year old college student trash I must have, bleujay, thank you for pointing that out to me. I will delete my post, but leave this up so people know the correction. Did his account get hacked or is that just a fake? Again, I apologize for that - shame on me for assuming. Thanks for pointing that out.
  16. Why would Miles quickly name someone to an assistant position when that is why we're looking for another assistant? I really think he should take a look at someone internally. We at least know that Eaton can recruit as he found Horne. However I'm sure he'll spend plenty of time looking around externally if he hasn't been already. Dimes, I agree with you in general. However, my question - how much do you weigh "loyalty" with this position? I have always felt, for Nebraska to reach the apex of where we can be as a basketball program, staff loyalty and continuity has to be one of the main priorities. If we're just looking for big time assistants who we think can bring us a big name recruit alongside of them - aren't we just in this position every year after they move on? I debate a lot with myself whether I think we should look externally or from inside.
  17. From another board, NOT MY POST OR INSIGHT: "FWIW one of my friends is a manager for the basketball team and he said that this is was not a surprise at all. From his experience working with the team throughout the year Beckner was not a fit in the locker room and was not generally liked by any of the players. He told me about a month ago that he didn't expect Beckner to be back next year and that Miles was helping him to find another landing spot. I almost compare it to a Hank Hughes situation where he may be a good coach and very knowledgable (ex. his work with Damian Lillard) but he couldn't connect or relate to the players on the roster and its for the best that he is moving on. Take it for what its worth." Again, just taking a quote from another board. Not my information. Delete if needed.
  18. He looks older than me...
  19. There's a serious problem here of Summit being at an incredibly high position of manipulation potential. Not to mention the fact that she came with him from Marquette, which was over 2 years ago - placing here in her teens when she made that decision. It's incredibly creepy, irresponsible, and morally wrong (in my opinion). It's a very scary precedent an administration would be setting to not fire him (or ask him to resign, whatever). Is there a distinct possibility that these two are mutually attracted to one another, and under different circumstances would have fallen just as equally "in love," (work with me here)? It's very possible. However, it's highly dangerous to allow this type of behavior, and certainly something that I would never allow in my hypothetical athletic department. Which I think we both agree upon. The point you brought up about PVA&M is very interesting to me. I personally cannot believe that she was fired for enforcing that... There has to be more to that story? Surely you would hope your athletic department was behind you on a decision like that? That is nuts...
  20. Sorry, that's not going to cut it anymore. It's essential Miles lands a solid center this year for our team's future and his future as the head coach of Nebraska. If he doesn't...things will likely stay status quo with us hovering around the bottom of the league. If we land Palmer...great, but it's not going to help us any this upcoming year. If we could land someone like Palmer and a big to help next year that would be ideal. Striking out again on landing a big and carrying over a scholorship(again)..will not be a good look. It's time to get it done. Getting Palmer and getting a big man are not mutually exclusive things. You can't just recruit to help you for next year. Have to look at the future and fill roster spots with good basketball players, regardless of need sometimes. We can recruit Palmer and still be trying our damnedest to get a big. Both things can happen.
  21. No. I don't see that anyways. Walt was a freak athlete with a ton of length, who could hit an outside shot. But had very little midrange game or back to the basket ability. I see more of Coach Miles' typical Colorado State swing men in this guy.
  22. Just wanted to clarify, because I got a private message asking if I was saying Emily Wood wasn't scholarship worthy: I was joking about myself, because I had put that "Emily Wood IS a walk-on" and someone corrected me stating that she actually received a scholarship (which I was not aware of), so I just replied putting, Emily Wood WAS a walk-on (joking that I had made a typo, when I really hadn't). Sorry if it came across incorrectly. Was mocking my own mistake. I've met Emily on multiple occasions - she might be the most deserving scholarship player out there. Fantastic person. So again, sorry if that came across incorrectly.
