  1. Speaking of talent, many stated that Anderson decimated the program to the point Erstad had to rebuild for years. In year one under Erstad as a team we hit .315. Right now we are hitting .258. Of course, we also had Will Bolt during this time who is a much better hitting coach than Erstad but that’s another story. Erstad was just another coach who came in and talked out of both sides. It was going to be “chaos on the basepaths”. Talks about how aggressive we will be. Unfortunately it’s been the exact opposite.
  2. Nope. He was right. Defense cost us today. If we can sweep NW we should still be in good position to win the Big Ten. Indiana and Mich still have to play each other. Iowa has a very easy remaining schedule though. And they have the tiebreaker over us.
  3. Boom. Such a huge commit. This roster is really forming very nicely. Now lock up the big man from Utah.
  4. Much needed win. Hopefully a win tomorrow and a series win can get them going. Mich series may decide Big Ten league title if Indians falters.
  5. Agreed. I do like some of the freshmen that was brought in like Chick and Schwellenbach. But, it will be a surprise if they maximize their talent under Erstad.
  6. I was onboard with Anderson getting fired. The program really took a downturn once Childress left. With that said, I also questioned the short sightedness of hiring Erstad. And unfortunately, 8 years later there are still more questions than answers.
  7. Moving to the Big Ten makes it tough. But, Erstad has done a pretty mediocre job with this program.
  8. Good research. The rumor mill around Erstad since he has taken over the offense has always been people questioning his ability to teach the game to a bunch of college kids. He's as good as it gets when it comes to understanding the game and understanding the analytical side of things. But, that doesn't necessarily means he knows how to relate and teach the game to college kids. That's why I still think he would be best served jumping to the majors if he gets the chance again. We have far too many kids that come into this program that either plateau early or marginally get better. Guys like Altavilla and Roskam are a prime example of that. Perhaps Erstad is still learning but until we have a recruiting philosophy change and/or Erstad becomes better at the developmental side I'm not sure our offense will ever be where it needs to be. Erstad has always said that he wants his offense to put pressure on opposing defenses. Unfortunately, his lineups more times than not doesn't really reflect that. But, hopefully the offense can somehow get hot the last few weeks. While our pitching depth is questionable, our starts have done their job all year.
  9. I would say that’s a lose lose. You gain nothing by getting a few wins and a loss really hurts the RPI. The team(offense) is not playing well but we have zero midweek games left and 3 out of 4 series at home. Should help to get some arms fresh. And we will need it come Big Ten tournament time considering our pitching depth is lackluster.
  10. Another wasted opportunity. Hard to be consistent on offense when you lack talent in the lineup. Illinois feels like a must series win to get this thing back in the right direction.
  11. RPI jumped to 41 after the Iowa win. Not an ideal weekend, mostly because Iowa has owned us. But, we still control our destiny. We have a 1/2 game lead in the conference and a pretty favorable schedule down the stretch with going to NW and home series against Illinois/Mich. Win the league and I would have to think we will be in good position for an at large.
  12. Yeah doubtful that happens. He would probably have to have a few seasons like last year. RPI is down to #46. Really need a win today for RPI purposes. #46 is not going to get it done for us if we don’t win the Big ten baseball tournament. I would guess we need to be mid 30’s to feel good about an at large bid.
  13. Guy has quite a bit of experience in high major ball. This is a real nice land. Hopefully his shoulder can hold up. Man if we land Mack and one solid big guy we could he very interesting next year.
  14. Death. Taxes. Heller owning Erstad. It’s almost on McDermott/Miles level. We we will see how the team responds in the upcoming weeks. Mentally strong is not something I would say Erstads teams are known for. Hopefully getting back home vs Illinois will get the team back on the right track.
  15. That’s embarrassing. But, we have a chance to win the next two. Erstad has to find a way to get this team scoring runs again. In the past when we have slumped we have really slumped. Hopefully they can find a way out of it.
  16. Hopefully we put up a nice big crooked number tonight. The guys at the plate could use a confidence boost. I'm starting to become concerned that the offensive slump is rearing its ugly head at the wrong time again. A big night vs UNO hopefully will bring the bats back to life.
  17. RPI jumped up 8 spots with that win. Any road win is a biggie. That by far was our toughest matchup of the weekend.
  18. Hoiberg just offered. Perfect fit for his offense.
  19. Yeah, the NCAA has been extra lenient these days. Would not surprise me one bit if Ntambwe and Tchtchoua got a waiver to play right away since there was a coaching change at UNLV. Add Green and Mack and throw in a guy like Ntambwe and we become a very interesting team next year. Still probably a big man short but man we will be fun to watch.
  20. I would be all for Doc returning. His issues at Nebraska were not due to defense. We were always very sound in that department The other end of the court was a different story.
  21. Ntambwe also recently visited UCONN and is given high praise from UNLV assistant coach saying he will be a pro in two years and would have eventually been Mountain West player of the year had he stayed with the Running Rebels. https://www.ctpost.com/uconn/article/UNLV-transfer-Joel-Ntambwe-who-visited-UConn-13736378.php
  22. To be fair, you are comparing apples to oranges right now when talking about freshman Johnny Dorn vs Freshman Kyle Perry. By years end, Dorn was in the starting rotation in place of a guy who has been years in the majors(Duensing.). And the other weekday guy was Tony Watson. But, I don’t expect us to have a Johnny Dorn every year but if people actually believe that our pitching depth now is equivalent to our haydays in the Big 12 they are dreaming. Again, I don’t see how that comment would upset some. As for the pitching staff this year it looks like we have solidified our starting rotation and they have been nails thus far in Big Ten play. But to my point, luckily thus far they have been able to go far into games because our bullpen is shaky right now. Our bullpens ERA is 5.2. Not horrible, but not good. Hopefully they can get Luensmann going because he will be a key cog down the stretch.
  23. Thanks. I have no doubt you have a source that may or may not have information and I welcome anyone on this board to share what they know have heard. But, you still haven’t really shared anything outside of saying you have heard rumors. What are those rumors specifically? But I guess I don’t really care at this point. Matt’s here to stay. And quite honestly as long as he’s not handing out bags of cash getting a bit dirty with the rest of the college basketball world will get us closer to being on an even playing field. It’s still the Wild West our there because the ncaa has no balls.
  24. Yeah and Creighton was a very good team in 2005. We also had a guy named Tony Watson that would eat up innings mid week. I don’t think it was a reach with me saying our pitching depth is not what it was but hey to each their own.
  25. Some people like you simply can’t handle the truth. And the truth may be negative. That’s fine that you choose to be delusional. More power to you. But, I will debate our midweek starters under Erstad vs our best of teams whenever you want if you actually want to get down to it. And I don’t even blame Erstad for that. It’s partly a product of moving to the Big Ten.
