  1. We’re putting together a helluva NIL package for Baylor. If we don’t get him it’s not going to be that we didn’t offer enough.
  2. With a whole bunch of in-state players doing OK for other schools, and who look better than many of the stiffs we have thrown out there to finish last 3 years in a row, it could just be a pattern.
  3. My point is most of the guys we have taken from other states needed to develop also, and haven't been able to cut it here. So in hindsight they needed to go to a lower D1 school to develop also. Or stay. Point is, we and other schools are too harsh or skeptical about in-state recruits, and not skeptical enough with recruits from other areas.
  4. Or run one of the young guys. Say we gotta win now.
  5. Time for Fred to step up and get Scheierman. Go up against the big boys and get a win. Couldn't do it with Sallis, Hepburn, or Traudt. Did a helluva job getting Bryce, and developing him while he was here. But Baylor could make a huge difference with the whole program and save a precarious situation. Win some games, win some in-state recruiting cred after getting Sam and Baylor. For Baylor, leave a legacy on program improvement. For Fred, be the damn Mayor. Make this happen.
  6. What does "like him" mean? White guy from a rural area? I don't think we've struck out on guys "like him", because he's way better than those guys, and was coming out of high school. And every guy we signed in the meantime from somewhere else needed development. And didn't look anything special" early on, if ever. I would have been fine not taking most of the stiffs we brought in the past several years out of high school than this guy.
  7. Painting with a broad brush. There are all sorts of other examples (e.g. Tomje at CSU) who are better than some of the out of state stiffs we have brought in. We've had plenty of Heimans and Arops from perceived exotic hoops locations all over the country. Arop at least can play 20 minutes a game at UNO, unlike Elijah Wood.
  8. Everyone around the state knew of this guy. Too many times we overlook Nebraska guys and end up with stiffs from somewhere else. That’s starting to change, thankfully, with Trev’s influence. You’re seeing more offers to Nebraska kids in football, and men’s and women’s basketball. Should help the culture.
  9. A couple of those guys aren’t on our team. Many of the rest are unproven or mediocre.
  10. This all makes it even more sad, if not pathetic, that we didn't offer this guy out of high school
  11. Sorry, can't go there. Not impressed with that lineup, in this league. Hope the FNGs are better than I think.
  12. I attended the memorial event and had a Busch Lite in Dorothy’s honor. Shoecraft attended. Could have been other former players there but didn’t recognize any. Nice event. Good pics from the Muncie days.
  13. Really happy for Mike. And would be shocked if he doesn’t do a great job at Ball State. He is good people. He made a great impression on all who met him during his time in Lincoln. Pretty salty golfer as well.
  14. No, although there are lots of Lincoln members at Caprock. Achim loves golf.
  15. No, it’s your cheap shot condescending attitude. A whole bunch of Nebraskans have a healthy level of care about high school basketball.
  16. Your comments about Trey are good, as there is much to respect about the young man. But if you have an issue with those who were were born, raised and died as Nebraskans you have serious problems.
  17. Heard some things, but wouldn’t take it to the bank.
  18. Don’t be shocked if Sam ends up here
  19. Yes, they still remember him, without the plane crash. Great player, controlled the game from the point guard position, in the day of the post player. Toughest mental makeup I have ever seen
  20. Well I can relate!
  21. What cracks me up is "a rebuild". From 2 last place and 13th place finishes. Typically rebuild means it was built first. If this doesn't test us nothing will.
  22. Correct. it is late in the game and a recovery will be extremely difficult; but hoping for one nonetheless. But another reason why I don't think we have a choice but to go back to the portal again.
  23. What is needed to solve the "recruiting dilemma" is to have the head coach recruit. The beat writers have consistently stated "it's well known that Fred can't stand recruiting" (McKewon said a paraphrase of this just this week on Sharp and Benning). Well, he needs to either decide he'll actively recruit, or find something different to do. This is not gonna work at this place without a full, dogged effort by the head coach himself. Oversight and evaluation is a good start, but we need more.
  24. Gonna be tough anyway. Those recruits aren't going to come in and win in this league right away. Assuming everyone is pretty much right on who is not coming back, that roster is not competitive. As distasteful as it is, we're gonna need a couple of really good difference makers from the portal to give it a chance.
  25. The portal better be kind....even adding Breidenbach to that list, that's a bad roster. Really bad. In a year you supposedly need to win.
