I wondered if he was in the Rick Barry family. Now I know.

And now we stand alone.

If there was ever a guy who was money in warmups...

I found this to be pretty informative. Granted it's over an hour, but despite that I think it only scratches the surface on the whole dribble drive concept. My uneducated eye was telling me that our offense was too often just a bunch of individuals going one on one. I need to watch more examples, but I can appreciate what this style of offense is trying to do. It is an attacking style, reliant on spacing, and its efficiency relies on putting your players into the best position to make the highest possible percentage of baskets, either close to the rim, or at the free throw line. Even though often a play ends with a player going one on one, it really is a team effort, with the rest of the team cutting, setting screens, and posting. You hear the coach (who invented the dribble drive motion) say a lot of the things we've heard from Miles before. Now this coach never covered on ball screens in this video which Miles uses a lot, and I wonder if that is a wrinkle he added from other offensive styles.

Nice analysis Norm. And was it after the GW game that Miles said he would simplify things on offense for the players? I don't feel as if our offense has ever been that intricate, so to simplify it ever more didn't seem to work, especially in the long run. Teams started to figure us out staring with Northwestern. I would like for Miles and Co. to take a serious look at changing our offense to try to generate more assists, more team ball. This mostly one on one stuff isn't going to cut it in the BIG. Of course, one thing that would really help is if we can knock down our outside shots.

What an ingenious way to collect on insurance!

You'd better upgrade your seats to the lower level. Just in case.

I second this, btw.

Okay I'll start it Who is coming back?

On one of the Monday basketball shows (I think) Miles said he asked all of the players if they planned on being back next year, and he said that all of them, with the exception of "maybe" one, gave a strong affirmation that they were planning on returning. This was about a month, month and a half ago. So, take that for what it's worth. -
Our offense is just all one-on-one stuff.

Watching a game with something on the line is stressful

That's the question Cubs fans had been asking themselves for the past 100 years. -
If they were susceptible to the pressures of the OWH articles this year, next year's pressure to make the NCAA tourney may put them in a catatonic state.

Answering my own question here. Opponents 3pt % at Pinnacle Bank = 45.5 (81-178). Opponents 3pt % when we played them at their gym. 39.7% (70-176) -

I'm going to bet the farm that our opponents shot a better percentage at the Vault than on their home court this year. -

Can we tabulate Big 10 opponents 3 point percentage in the Pinnacle Bank for this year? I mean, I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. They weren't all open threes. -
The mental aspect of basketball is huge. We've all seen it before where good teams, with good players have just played terrible, and you're thinking how? Why is Wisconsin playing so poorly right now? Every team can have an off night, or even a few games where they are slumping. The good teams usually come back, but not always. Why? It's that mysterious aspect of team sports where one week you're loose and confident, and then when you inexplicably have an off night it can, like a virus, spread from one game to the next. Maybe then, and I'm no psychologist mind you, players try to over correct the problem by focusing so much on themselves, their training, their drills, fundamentals, etc., that they forget how to play together. They think, "I've got to correct this slump we're in by making sure I play near perfect basketball." Consequently (and unconsciously), they play hesitant, timid, not wanting to make mistakes, and forgetting how they played before, loose and together. Mix in some heartbreaking losses also to make them press all the more. And the coaches. They see their players making mistakes they used to not make, lacking confidence, and they think "We've got to coach them up better. More training, better drills, scrimmages, coach/player meetings, film sessions. Maybe the rope gets a little shorter during games. Do they over compensate as well, instead of letting them play through it? And now with these last few games, I think there's a sense of being resigned to the fact that we're not going to play in any post season tourney. The basketball season is a drain on everyone, but if you're Minnesota your energy is buoyed by knowledge that you've earned your way in to the NCAA Tourney, and in fact they are fighting to get as high a seed as possible. If you're Nebraska, well.... Again, not a psychologist, just a one possible explanation. I think the thing that gives me the most hope is that until these last four games, we've played pretty good (Garner-Webb not withstanding), and made every game we played in a dog fight. Hit the reset button after this year, and I think we regain our confidence, and hopefully if we've logged some more wins by next February, we'll have the strength and energy to close out our conference schedule with enough wins to make the dance.
